  1. I have looked at LU online but the program is not very rigorous.  Their dual enrollment program looks doable but I contacted them and he can't start until he is in 11th grade so I am trying to figure out what to do with him for two years and maybe later going into that program not sure though.  Will look into the teaching company as some of you all have mentioned.  How do you all keep up with all of the reading and helping them along the way?  I have other kids and am needing something that will be more hands off for me where they can complete it all on their own.

  2. He wants to attend Liberty u. but i dont want to cancel out any other possibilities. I know i probably dont make sense....rambling in my post....what do you use for a college level hist. And lit. To do at home before college? Any good curriculum you all recommend? I was thinking of holding off another year just wasnt sure what to cover....we used abeka this year but have used others in the past....loved vp omnibus rigor. Thanks for your post interesting thoughts

  3. Really debating what to do with my 9th grader next year.  He still has 1-2 yrs. left with his science and math before finishing his all of his high school courses.  We have gone through all high school courses in middle school with history and literature.  I know I probably could keep coming up with a home made curriculum for the next couple of years I guess but was wondering how people are dealing with completing courses early.  Have you considered college courses at community colleges, online college courses, dual enrollment options such as Liberty online, High Scholars at Belhaven (Potters).  If they are able to get college credit early should we go and let them or just wait and try to find other courses to by some time?  At times I feel why not instead of paying more money for curriculum to by time just have him take courses where it serves both high school and college credit? Or should I just wait a couple of years and just have him do dual enrollment for all of his courses?  I have looked at many past posts but was wondering how the accelerated forum feels.  Thanks for any advice!

  4. I am looking for a curriculum that is easy to implement combining History/Bible/Lit.  I would like to start back with the Ancients since both are my kids are there for the rotation.  I am also looking for something rigorous that implements a biblical world view.  (We are conservative Christians).

Background:  We have used VP all the way through in the elementary years for both of my kids.  My oldest will be in 9th grade and has completed 2 omnibus classes at VP and we have enjoyed it but due to internet issues we are no longer able to use.  So I am debating what to do with him next year starting high school.  He is rather accelerated and have been debating starting the dual credit route with him or just keeping him with me in our studies for a couple more years?  Another debate.

Wrap up do you know of good programs that are already laid out where I don't have to read every Literature my children read.  Can't keep up with both ages and not to mention my little one.  So I am looking for one that has comprehensive questions answered/quizes or something where I can make sure that the Lit. my kids are reading are comprehending and I can discuss with them some.  Read alouds and things we do as a family are doable just can't read all of their Lit. they do by themselves.  Have looked at MFW, Sonlight, TOG(looks so complicated and time consuming) Omnibus (just isn't going to work with both age groups) Have looked briefly at Truth Quest and Biblioplan, Illuminations(looks really cool but hears Mystery of History is not a very good book?) not too familiar with these.  Any other ones I should look at or revisit?  Thanks in advance for any input!!!

    • Can one decide after we get the scores back or is it something we have to do before he takes them? Thanks for your comment!!! Still debating whether we will let him graduate a few years early or not; waiting to see how he does with his courses and if and when we have exhausted all other avenues before starting college.

  6. My son is finishing up 7th grade but has already begun high school work. We are trying to come up with a high school plan for him and are trying to see his strengths and weaknesses. We have an opportunity to take the SATs for free this year. Would that be a "ding" on his record if he were to take them this early or would they see it as like a talent search? He did take the John Hopkins talent search when he was in 3rd grade and scored really high just didn't feel like going down that road again with him for the expense since we don't have the money for the classes they offer there. Any thoughts?

    Thanks!

  8. Thanks again everyone, I had some old tanagrams from my older children and got them out while I cooked dinner. He really enjoyed it and did well I was quite suprised at his ability to get it so fast. Thanks again for all suggestions also looking into getting the workbooks you all mentioned and looking into BFIAR. Thanks!

  9. We try to do older brothers work during nap time but it is hard when sometimes its only and hour. :-( He does love puzzles. That is interesting about not getting colors early on, I always seemed to hear that most kids get that before anything else so that is good to know that maybe he hasn't processed it yet. Looking into all the other ideas...thanks everyone!!!

  10. Thanks everyone great ideas...and encouraging words...can't wait to check them all out..it's been awhile since I had this age...my oldest was tested as highly gifted and he wasn't near as advanced as this one so he is kinda out of the playdough phase...it was good when he was right at one yr. Thanks again!

  11. My youngest is 22 mths old and already knows his numbers through ten, letters upper and lower most sounds, and shapes. He loves to learn and can't get enough he has learned most of his learning on his own but I am in need of something to keep him busy while i work with my older boys. Looking for stuff that takes minimum prep work so i can spend more time with them. Not sure either what i should work on next more phonics to build reading? The one thing he struggles with is colors and we are thinking he could be color blind (runs in our family) thanks for your help!

  12. I guess it depends on your child. My son is taking it now and has enjoyed Harold Jacobs text. It is pretty readable and he has been able to understand it on his own for the most part (he is 12) and loves math. We do not have the teacher's book and he has been okay without it. I hope this helps.

  13. Looking for a good workbook that has lots of practice in the following areas (need an answer key :-). My son has used Shurley English through elementary and has done My Mother's Tongue. This year he is taking a HS course and doing great particularly in writing except with these areas and wanted him to work on them but not sure where to look? Any suggestions greatly appreciated!!! He has taken several IEW writing courses as well.
