  1. I second the Botanic gardens. Wonderful garden area tailored towards kids. They also have a great zoo. Our whole family enjoyed it...and they have panda bears. Angela
  2. Ava? Or Camille? I tend to like 'old fashioned' names also. My daughters have the names Ella and Camille. If we had another it would be Miriam. Love the name Miriam. How about Esther? Every Esther I know is beautiful and feminine! Angela
  3. We rent out a home in another state. Either we have gone to show the house or had a friend to show it. Then, if they are interested, we do a credit check. We do not use an agency. If we did then there would be an increase in rent. It is a nice house and immaculately kept house. It was our home that we decided to wait a few years to sell. We have found our last 2 tenants on Craigslist. We do not charge for credit checks. I would say definitely meet the owner and see the house before a credit check. We also like to meet the people who want to 'borrow' our home for awhile. Those Nigerian missionaries are the same ones that keep sending me emails about wanting to deposit $50 million in my account...all they need is my account number;) Angela
  4. Are you from western NC? I assume that is what the WNC is for? If so, then there is a great place near you to get a shelter dog. It is a no-kill shelter in Morganton NC called Burke County Friends 4 Animals. They have many puppies and dogs. They have a fenced-in yard you can take the dog to and let them run around and play. We were able to tell alot about what we liked and did not like about the dogs from their behavior running around. We love to hike also and did not want a dog that would give out in 20 minutes. We live in NC and adopted our mutt there. Good people and no pressure, they want you and the dog to be happy. Our dog was 7 months old and not potty trained. It did take a month and alot of work to potty train a big dog(no way to keep her blocked in the kitchen when we were not home). They do have some dogs that came in already trained though. Good luck. And when you see the right dog, your heart will go 'Aaaawwww'
  5. We loved I, Coriander read by Sally Gardner (if I remember right). Have had some duds since then, so I'll be glad to write down the ones others suggest.
  6. ASL will be our language for the first half of the year, then we will see. We are using an internet site for lessons. It has been fun and breaks up some monotony
  7. One free resource is http://www.typing-lessons.org/ I haven't spent alot of time with it, but it looks like a good start. Angela
