  1. I had to check what grade she is in. You're not paying a lot of money for her to get bullied or deal with difficult people. She can deal with difficult people when she is in a paying job. Middle school is already tough, and mean girls are really really mean. I have a group of 5th grade girls that are not mean, but if we don't keep an eye on it, can turn ugly really quick. I'm doing a lot of heart work with those girls so they can see themselves, their behavior, and potential consequences of different actions. By 7th grade, girls can be expert mean girls. I'd just believe your daughter and pull her out. And, I'm saying this after having a parent meeting with a girl's mom today, the student claiming she is a victim when there is literally nothing going on (same classroom, different grade).
  2. They really don't need that long to switch. Many of these companies are already in Europe and have a completely different recipe for the same treats. One of my ESL students works for Hersheys and is in charge of the ingredients. She was telling me how she didn't understand why the company gives US consumers crap and Europe has the good stuff. They won't change unless forced to, because it's cheaper.
  3. Oh, and I have a Walmart delivery coming probably within the next half hour.
  4. It is a holiday for my school, but Gymnast still has school today. She has a lot to catch up on it and she's not listening to me. I need to clean the kitchen, grade a bunch of papers and put in the gradebook, and go to the laundromat when Gymnast's live classes are over. I should probably also call her painting teacher. She is not enjoying this class, and he really wants to make this a good experience for her. I think she's just intimidated. I don't know. She doesn't really clearly verbalize what the issue is.
  5. I've said that I'm interested in an item, and listed the times and dates I can pick up if it's still available.
  6. So, we're over COVID (more or less), I have a one-foot stack of papers to grade, and I dropped my phone in the toilet. Thus, if you've texted me in the past few days, I wouldn't know.
  7. I started it in Spanish and didn't get past page 1 or 2.
  8. I remember that story. Dh thought he was going to die at 50. He's still here. It is kind of beside the point to start a program at such a late age, when the point is to stay active younger...
  9. No church, because COVID, but I'm clear to go back to work tomorrow. Gymnast on Tuesday, dh on Wednesday. What a week.
  10. Better a curriculum used well, than a "better" curriculum not used at all.
  11. Gymnast will be earning her first patches soon. She's getting a Founder's patch, and will be attending a BSA workshop (3 classes) starting this Saturday for her Birding patch. Or badge. I don't know if there is a difference. I did the training to be an adult leader, and found out my application was never turned in by the former Scout Master and I have to fill it out again. Something about things getting shredded... At least I did my training and that counts for something. Oh, and she made the Celebration dance team! She was worried about not making it in. I got the text of her acceptance as we were buying Boba on Saturday.
  12. We sportsballed this weekend. Watched live, that is. Well, at least on Saturday. On Friday, we went with the church on a chartered bus to see the Isotopes (minor league baseball) play the Oklahoma Dodgers. We never got there. There was an accident or something in a construction zone, and we crawled in bumper to bumper traffic for 3 hours. The pastor and a couple of other families had gone separately - the pastor early, the others took a different route - and got to see the game. There were only 9 people in our little section where we should have been. The pastor was sending pics to someone of our empty section, parts of the game, and the fireworks. He mentioned today in the service that they couldn't refund our money, but are giving us free tickets for next season. We (bus folk) decided to go to dinner since we missed the game, and arrived at Cracker Barrel in Albuquerque at almost 9 pm (we had left the church at 5:20pm). I bought a fountain nativity in their gift shop. The Isotopes won. On Saturday, we got a Take 2 - going with the Boy Scouts to see the 2nd to last game of the season. It was scouting day, and fan day, or something. We rode with another family and arrived without incident. We ate hotdogs and popcorn, because you can't go to a baseball game without having a hotdog. It was good. It was also our first baseball game ever. We've never watched it. But, it was fun. And we got to see the fireworks at the end. The Isotopes won again.
  13. I'll eat nachos periodically, but I don't actually particularly like nacho cheese. Or any processed cheese, for that matter. Except the powdered kind on Cheetos or Cheez Its. I get a hankering for those sometimes.
  14. I wondered if it became a thing because too many people were dropping in with people not up to visits, and needing to set a standard for everyone. This seems like the issue of "do you drop in at someone's house or call first" discussion. I remember growing up and people dropping in and it was okay. Others around my age say that was considered rude and didn't like it. Culture, generational norms, society, personal preference, all come into play. I've enjoyed this discussion (I've read the first 3 pages and this one, sorry pages 4-5). I like seeing how some people really like many visitors and hearing how much they feel supported in that way. I understand the people that don't want a lot of visitors dropping in to see the baby after birth. I've had it both ways. Nowadays if someone I know is getting a medical procedure, I'll just ask via text usually. During the vulnerable time, I'll usually text the person closest to them to see if anything is needed or if it's okay for me to text directly, because I don't want to bother the patient unless they've said it's okay.
  15. Our prayer list includes people who might want visitors, and stipulate when (days, times, when such-and-such family member is present, etc.) and are told to CALL FIRST to make sure. And these people aren't even in surgery, maybe shut-in. I can't fathom just showing up to someone's surgery or birth without being asked to be there.
  16. I remember this happening at one World Cup game. I can't remember who was playing, but one was red and green and the other was green and red - a nightmare for those color blind folks... The world football group made a rule after that to keep something like that from happening again. Today was the Renaissance Fair at the living history museum. Now, this museum is on over 200 acres, so not your average museum. The place was PACKED. Today was sold out. I remember when it first started 15 years ago; we missed that one, but have been every year since, except a couple of years here or there. It's grown a lot, and so much fun! We dress up, too. Well, me and the girls do. I'm just realizing we missed seeing the unicorn this year. It's a REAL one! Tomorrow we're going back out, but to work. The BSA girl's troop is going to help with parking in the afternoon. They'll get free tickets. Which doesn't matter to us because we have a membership and get in free all year... Did I mention that Gymnast and I both have "jobs" with BSA? She's quartermaster, and I'm recruitment coordinator. I specifically asked what did NOT require much paperwork et al, because I'm ADHD, perimenopausal, and a teacher with a foot-high stack of papers to grade.
  17. No, she's been back from camp for a couple of weeks or so. She's back on her daily walks with Juliet.
  18. I don't think I've ever heard of that movie. 🤷🏾‍♀️
  19. I'm also concerned about math. I can do it, I don't know how well I'll explain it to these 4th and 5th graders when it gets to certain points.
  20. You're a daughter that cares enough to have boundaries.
  21. I got some meals from Hello Fresh using a teacher discount. We had one today. It was enjoyed by all.
  22. I mostly learned music by ear, which also be a handicap to a certain point. Gymnast, thankfully can do both. I wanted her to be able to have an ear for music/play by ear (thus, Suzuki), and also read (which Suzuki also does), so she has the better of both worlds.
  23. Today is our busy day. Since the school I work at is located at the church I attend, Wednesdays I'll be here pretty much all day. School ends at 3:30; I'll do a little work, then take Gymnast to orchestra practice which is 4 minutes away. After practice, we're back at the church for the prayer meeting/Bible study (and dinner!), followed by youth meeting. So, we're essentially here from 7:30 am to 8:15 pm, with a short orchestra break. And we left our lunch at home. 😞 So, I ordered delivery...from McD. 😟
  24. The ITT recipe archive now has 32 pages on the drive. 😄 This is a big deal! I'm still grading kids' papers. I want to give all the papers back tomorrow so they can show their parents that they are actually doing work. I'm hoping to streamline this process beginning this week.
