  1. Hugs to the burn and water victims! I had to cut off part of the ham to fit it in the crockpot but it should be ok. My plan was to prep that yesterday and not the day of. :)
  2. We have a projector that we can connect to a computer or ipad. We bought the projector used and then dh bought the corresponding ipad connector. Like another poster mentioned we just use a large living room wall. We take down the artwork and close the curtains. This is easy to do and leaves the room looking normal if the projector is put away.
  3. My 9yo is mathy, but now that we are up to 5 numbers and so many operations to choose from she is having a hard time. She still works on it for about 10 minutes and then I go over the solutions with her. I'm hoping this will help her to come up with her own in the future. I will be interested to see other replies as well.
  4. I'm on my second time through Dancing Bears with dd2 and we all love the crazy stories! I look forward to dd3 reading them in the future.
  5. Pong seems to mean "to stink" based on other sentences in Apples & Pears and Dancing Bears. We have also seen several references to drinking ale and beer. We are a family that does not drink at all so I have just discussed the reasons we don't with my kids. I explain to them that other people do and it hasn't been a problem. Overall the percentage of sentences like this has been very low.
  6. Anyone remember City of Angels where the angels hang out at the library? My hobby is the library too, lol! Our county system has a ton of TC courses. I'm listening to my first set and am totally in love.
  7. What kind of water do you and your friend have? We have hard water and another recipe I tried didn't work well. But it had fewer ingredients and no Oxyclean so I am considering the one you posted as it looks better. :)
  8. Depending on which carrier you are with there is probably a cheaper company where you could use the phones you already have as well as buying new ones. We have Sprint iphones and transferred to Ting when our contract with Sprint was up. Our bill is less than half what it used to be! Other carriers that I looked into were Boost Mobile, StraightTalk, Republic Wireless and Virgin Mobile. Ting was the only one that could use a Sprint iphone. You can get unlocked phones or phones for a specific carrier on many websites.
  9. I'm good at reading about science, having dd9 read about science, watching documentaries together and discussing science topics. I would really like to have some hands on activities that are enjoyable and educational, but I am terrible at getting that sort of thing done! Something that works is DH doing projects from a snap circuits kit and Engino simple machines kit with the kids and then I do fine discussing and reading from the project notes. Other materials don't get used because they are not in a super convenient, self contained box with simple instructions. :) So I was thinking about Science in a Nutshell kits or something else that dd9 could do mostly one her own. Are TOPS projects teacher intensive? Any other suggestions for middle school level activities that would fit this criteria? I will be hoping for a fun, educational class in our area for next year.
  10. We use a similar program and really enjoy it. We choose all materials and how they are implemented. It doesn't change what we do at home except that I mark attendance and give a general overview of what we do. I can withdraw at any time. The money is very nice and certainly worth the minimal extra time I spend to get it.
  11. Our bill is HALF what it used to be with Sprint! :hurray: DH's was more because he can't use the wifi at work so he used more cellular data, but my bill was only $16.
  12. Yes, that is Portuguese. :) The website ends in br which is the web abbreviation for Brazil.
  13. Congratulations!!! :hurray: :hurray: :hurray: :hurray:
  14. My oldest daughter loved reading the other stories too. She didn't want to be the first one to post and was glad to hear that other people, including the Bushy story author, liked her ending. :)
  15. Ooh, this looks so neat! Are you still planning to write a fourth volume of the History of the World series?
  16. Mine came yesterday too. My life is complete, the nagging emptiness is gone! :)
  17. $32.65! http://www.staples.com/Staples-The-Desk-Apprentice-Rotating-Desk-Organizer/product_597003 I ordered mine before posting here in case a lot of people tried to beat me to it! ;)
  18. DH and I installed the Viber app on our phones to make free calls and texts to each other. That will make the bulk of our texting and calling free since we won't have to pay for those minutes/texts.
  19. You set up an account on their website and put in all the relevant info; phone number, Sprint account number etc. It is under the activation tab.
  20. THANK YOU! We do have their coverage in our area and it should be much cheaper for the same network. Their website was fabulous too. I spent 15 minutes getting everything switched over for 2 phones. We had Virgin Mobile several years ago and we could never activate, pay etc on the website.
  21. Our contract with Sprint is finally ending and we would like to have a cheaper plan. Boost, Straightalk and Virgine Mobile all tell me I can't bring my iphone 5 to them. Any suggestions besides buying a new phone through one of those prepaid carriers?
  22. I do like it, but it does have a lot of activities for the classroom that we don't do. I would prefer a program designed for homeschoolers of course :) Santillana's customer service is a pain. I ordered the student books online for 1st and 4th this year several times and they never shipped my order. When I called them they said the physical books were out of stock. After a few more phone calls I got them to sell me a teacher license for the online program that has access to everything; student book, teacher book, tests, practice book, readers etc. That ended up being cheaper for this year, but they only last a year so I will have to re-buy for future children. I love that it covers grammar, writing and spelling all in one book. We get extra books for me to read aloud and my kids to read from our library system. There are enough lessons in 3rd and 4th grade for us to use it 4 times a week. The first grade book has a lot of letter tracing which my first grader is beyond so it is a twice a week program for her. I do plan to continue with it all the way through in addition to library books.
