  1. As long as it keeps your head warm, I wouldn't care if it matched or not. Also from the south and never heard it called a toque or toboggan before. I always thought toboggan was a sled...
  2. My goal this week (month?) is to make sure the kitchen sink is empty before bed. Also this week I am trying to get caught up on the laundry. This seems to be a recurring thread here in this discussion and it is making me not feel as bad right now! I did declutter one bathroom today. It's not much but, I definitely like walking by that bathroom and looking at it now.
  3. Do you happen to know the name of that app?
  4. Is it possible other guests thought maybe the books were a wedding favor? I know how frustrating it is to lend things in good faith and never get them back. I've stopped loaning books to people because I never receive them back.
  5. I plan on finishing Sleeping Beauties by Stephen and Owen King this week. My goal for the challenge this year is 36 books. I'm hoping to be able to read more than that but I am finishing up my degree this year and when school is in session, I don't have a lot of free time for fun reading.
  6. She does wash her hair everyday but she uses the T-Gel every other shampoo. On the other days, she uses a conditioning shampoo by Herbal Essences.
  7. My daughter has really bad dandruff. We tried Head and Shoulders and Selson Blue. We even went to the dermatologist about it and got a prescription for different dandruff shampoos (I can't recall the names now). Finally, my mother suggested T-Gel shampoo and we have now found a solution. She has to use it pretty regularly but, it does work.
  8. Do the kids realize this has been a tradition? I ask because our Santa does not wrap the gifts from him. One year, we went out of town and as a result, I ended up wrapping the Santa gifts so they wouldn't see them in the trunk. I decided to leave them out Christmas Eve wrapped. The kids never asked (or noticed, I guess) why the Santa presents were wrapped that year. It just seems like a lot of unnecessary stress and work for an already stressful time of year.
  9. I've never heard of this book before now. I was looking it up on Amazon and I am intrigued. Is this a book that would be better implemented when the kids are younger or would it help me with my ADHD DS12 now?
  10. I have been wondering this myself. I am returning to college after close to 20 years of being out of school. I am taking an online course where we have to submit written assignments to a discussion board. The way it is set up, you must submit your assignment before you can read/review others. The assignment (a two paragraph summary of something we had to read) took me about a day of writing, revising, re-writing. I submitted it and then was able to view what my classmates had written. I was shocked. I probably could have just submitted my first draft copy and gotten an A. A lot of them had written in bullet points, no punctuation at all, spelling errors throughout, no capitalization, etc. A lot of the submissions reminded me of texts (abbreviations, "lol", etc.) Which had me wondering if it was "text culture" taking over.
  11. The only one I've tried is the Garnier BB cream. It works great and I love it, so, I've never felt the need to try any other brands. Plus, it's pretty cheap and is sold in all the drug stores and some grocery stores. Most days, I just put that on and some blush. I'm 35 but have gotten many comments since I've been using the BB cream that I don't look like I'm old enough to have a 10 year old!
  12. My first kindle died a couple of years ago. Well, it didn't really die but, it was only showing text on half the screen. I bought it when kindles first came out so, it was a few years old. I called Amazon to complain and they sent me a refurbished one free of charge! Needless to say, I am an Amazon customer for life! I'm thinking of getting the paperwhite now... Definitely call them...
  13. I am finishing up The Goldfinch. I should be done reading it this evening. I am so glad I picked that as the first book of the year. It truly has renewed my love of reading! Next up is a non-fiction book. Either Smart Women Finish Rich or All Your Worth. I'm working on getting my finances in order this year, so hopefully these will help me get on track. I was reading the first Harry Potter book aloud to my dd10. I've wanted to read this for a while and was hoping it would get her interested in reading. It worked but, she started reading ahead without me, so, when she is done reading it, it will go in my pile.
  14. Jan 1: $0 Jan 2: $0  I even checked amazon for their Monthly deals on kindle books and, though I saw a couple I wanted, did not purchase any!
  15. 1Q84 was my first (and so far only) Murakami book. I had such a hard time reading that book. I finished it because I hate not finishing a book but, the pace never picked up for me. I have since read on various sites not to start with this book as an intro to Murakami. Once I get through some of my TBR pile, I will try another Murakami book to see if I like him any better.
  16. I woke up this morning, forgetting that it was a no-spend challenge for me. I went straight on Amazon to the kindle daily deals and got about 4 ebooks on personal finance...I believe I spent ~$12, will have to double check. I have since stopped the email reminders for kindle daily deals and will challenge myself not to go on Amazon this month!
  17. I'm going to attempt this this year! First up is The Goldfinch, which I actually started on Monday. I have heard really good reviews on this book and I also heard where the book could be slow to get into. So far, at 300 pages in, I'm hooked, which is good because I have been in a reading slump lately and needed a good page turner. Next up will be some personal finance books. I don't think I will be able to do 52 books this year as I work full-time and am getting ready to start full-time college classes. I am hoping to read at least 30 books, though!
  18. I'm up for this. I also use YNAB, but haven't kept up with it since Thanksgiving. My finances could use some help. I need to stay away from stores and amazon. Reading is my big hobby and I plan to just read what's on my kindle and use the library.
  19. Thank you for this! I'm trying to get my finances in order as I am now newly separated with two kids and working full-time as well as starting college classes in January!
  20. Thanks for the suggestion! We live in Virginia Beach and I was contemplating taking the kids to the Aquarium on Monday. I didn't really want to as I knew it would be loaded with the last of the summer tourists...now I think we'll take a ride up to Newport News to visit the VLM!
  21. Week 1 Day 2 of sit ups completed. My muscles (or lack thereof) were feeling it today!
  22. I did 11 for my initial test but, chose to start in column one as a starting point. I plan on doing column one for the whole six weeks and then moving up to column two afterwards, as I am woefully out of shape. I also did 30 min on the treadmill this morning. I plan on doing the treadmill and this sit-up challenge three days a week together.
  23. My husband drinks his mixed drinks in them because he says the ice doesn't melt as fast, watering down the alcohol. We just have two mason jars that he uses only for this. We did not grow up on farms or in a rural area.
  24. http://familycorner.blogspot.com/ This is the only blog I read regularly. It's Diary of a Stay at Home Mom. She homeschools now, but did not used to, she talks alot about housekeeping and her family. Her husband is in the military, as is mine, which is probably why it connected with me.
