  1. It felt like a mispronunciation to me, even though there seems to be a lot of ways to pronounce it. (and I imagine they will all be tried!) If you don't know it's someone's name, it seems like someone is saying "To Lisa..." My initial pronunciation on it was Ta-LITH-uh. Different than Ta-LEETH-a, or Ta-LATHE-uh, or even TAL-itha. And of course Tabitha.
  2. Regarding the hearing loss -- perhaps this an actual medical issue? Just because he is prone to think "brain tumor" doesn't mean he shouldn't be checked out for one. (unless this has been done already or recently) Also wondering if it could be related to his use of medication?
  3. Who or what is not authorizing them?
  4. My SIL calls their 3 closely-spaced boys her "Irish Triplets," haha. I have heard the term plenty since I come from an ethnically Irish area, and it is not something anyone regards as offensive, just sort of a synonym for close in age.
  5. Generally the specialist will see you sooner if he is called by your doctor. (not by the doctor's staff) If the doctor makes the call directly, they find a way to squeeze you in.
  6. You just console yourself that he's statistically more like to attack someone else than you. Free range adults!
  7. This thread puts the "rest" in interesting. Very relaxing!
  8. I've had fun at all of mine. I talk to different people every time.
  9. One of the best things we did is get an over the door shoeholder with clear plastic sleeves. (about 2 dozen small pockets) We put this over the door of our bathroom and put all of our bathroom stuff in it that we didn't have room to put in the sink area, or to go hunting around to get. It was super cheap and super effective. (clear plastic is important so you can see what you've got in there haha)
  10. If you use this, does it still allow things like Youtube and open image searches? The kids use both for some types of school projects. It would be nice if it kept out the bad stuff while still allowing access to things they often use.
  11. I say we ignore it until we have symptoms!
  12. Gaslighting is a pretty heavy handed accusation to be making of people who are merely pointing out the dangers of getting into certain driving situations before you are ready to capably handle them. No one is denying her anxiety, or her right to feel as she does. However there's some difference of opinion as to how hard this girl should be PUSHED to drive because they *need* her to. That need, which I'm sure is very real, has to be subordinated to the safety of the girl and everyone she may encounter as a driver. I think some of the remedial things and coping strategies people have suggested have been very good. I still don't think she should be pushed to drive because of a perceived need. It only takes one horrible accident to realize that someone who is not ready to drive solo, or who needs more practice to gain confidence, should be afforded that opportunity, rather than be subtly pressured to take on more than she can handle. Gaslighting. Really.
  13. Harrassed? I've had people say to me "I wish I could homeschool." I'm not sure that it's true that you *will* be harassed, I've never experienced it.
  14. "Needing" her to drive is going to cause an accident unless and until she develops more...road maturity, I guess I'd call it. Or just good old fashioned driving experience. I think she should be treated as a driver who still has a permit until she can gain a level of confidence where panic won't ensue in a situation like this. The fact that she has a license is a red herring. Treat it as a full stop.
  15. We gave our kids phones when we wanted to be able to get in touch with them readily, or have them contact us. This turned out to be age 12 for our older, and 10 for our younger. (since the phones were buy one get one free) It wasn't expensive to get regular dumb phones that could text and talk but little else.
  16. In addition to putting hair up/covering it, you should also use hair products such as hairspray, mousse, gel etc, as it discourages them.
  17. I'd schedule an "optional open house" at my house for them to attend. Just for kicks.

    Marital woes

    Do you pray together?
  19. It can't be THAT hard to buck if processed foods make up about 70 percent of the U.S. diet. Or is it the fact that mom is often serving it? Once my kids got old enough, the service got *faster* once they learned to do it themselves...
  20. I only have one meal that takes anything close to six hours, you must have cooked that one! Or, are you counting time in the crock pot? Tyranny shymranny. The tyranny of home cooked food. The tyranny of the two-income family. The tyranny of public education. The tyranny of organized sports and travel teams. The tyranny of screen time. The tyranny of keeping up with the Joneses and/or Facebook. The tyranny of having a visitor-ready home at all times. The tyranny of the 2-child family. The tyranny of fashion. How about the tyranny of caring what anyone thinks except the people who matter? Sheesh.
  21. I'd like to extend my sympathies for your situation. I have to admit it caught my attention all the more because it didn't seem like you deserved such an injury! (from what you were doing) Can you tell us exactly what you did? I'd like to know if my middle aged body is going to give out on me during the normal course of exercise/activity, or if you were doing something especially vigorous that caused this. (like, an unusual kick or something) I've done some self defense type of stuff so I'm just trying to picture how this happened! So sorry for your situation.
  22. Wouldn't CONTINUING to have lice be caused by poor hygiene? Like, you're not taking care of the problem?
