  1. Bananagrams? Doing a crossword puzzle together? (Trying to think of some things you can do in the room when you aren't sightseeing or, um, well...you know. Dh and I are going away in Oct for 3 days to VA. We're going to do some touristy stuff but I planned to bring a game or two, too.
  2. Good for you! I've done Chalene Extreme and several other Beachbody programs. But these days I do 3 miles a day on the treadmill (2 running, 1 walking) and lift weights 3 days a week. I try to exercise at least 40 minutes a day. It feels so good. :)
  3. I can't tell you how many times I've accidentally eaten moldy bread, cornbread, etc. I wouldn't worry about it. I doubt your family member will ever notice a thing.
  4. PS...I wouldn't spend more than 3-4 hours on school per day. I think your plan looks like it fits that time frame. My biggest advice: relax. You are going to do just fine. :)
  5. You still have my email, right? If not, PM me. BTDT for different but similarly pressing reasons. :grouphug:
  6. Oh my gosh, Jessica, you are going to have the *best* year! Seriously! You've got enough experience - both good and bad - to be able to discern if things are going the way you want them to....and, with the experience under your belt, they'll go fine. Also, the ages of your kids is fantastic. My favorite homeschool years were spent schooling kids ages 6-10. They still love to learn at that age, they appreciate their mammas, and they enjoy the simple and silly things. Your curric picks look great. You are ready! I am jealous. Really. You will have a fantastic year, sweetie. Be sure to post, or really, even PM me, about your experiences. Some of us miss those times dearly. ETA: Singapore is still my hands-down favorite math program EVER! I am thinking about doing the placement tests again just for fun...for me. Pathetic, eh? LOL!
  7. Oh, yeah. This was me, absolutely. Things are very different now that I'm working, too, and the dc are in school.
  8. :iagree: This seems to be a bit beyond a legitimate special dietary restriction.
  9. DS 14: Mountain Dew DS 16: Mountain Dew DS 19: Dr Pepper DS 17: Dr Pepper
  10. I tend to think your money would be better spent investing in a good mutual fund. Also, many states have college savings plans as well.
  11. We have a 5-bedroom house. Of our 6 children, only 3 live at home full-time now (1 is in college, 2 are out of the house). Today we are rearranging dc and our exercise equipment. By the end of the day we should have three boys in separate rooms and the college student sharing a room with our extensive exercise equipment (elliptical machine, treadmill, home gym) when he's home. Our youngest two (16 & 14) have always shared a room, so they are thrilled beyond words to get their own bedrooms. Our college boy is home today and is very easy-going; he doesn't mind his bed being behind all our machines. :) I must admit, I love moving the kids around...I hate actual the process, but absolutely love the re-organization and decluttering that are the end result. Of course, that part will take me another week or two, but ultimately it is so worth it!
  12. I think this might be a fairly easy one. On SOTW years 1 and 2 have your FIL do American history pertaining to the holidays...this would be about right for K anyway. He can also give your child a good overview of the history of the US....very broad overview, but still: colonial period, Revolutionary period, etc. Just enough so your child can sort of see the progression. This could be done by learning about certain presidents, for example. Just give FIL enough to cover in years 1 and 2 and then let him have a blast during years 3 and 4.
  13. We have white dishes (not Corolle...I hate that stuff) and have had them for about 6 years. Still love them.
  14. Don't you guys have a first-swim-in-the-icy-lake thing going up there? That's probably where they honed their skills.... Good to see you, LuAnn. Hope all is well with you guys!
  15. We redesigned our kitchen and ripped out an electric range to put in a 5-burner gas cooktop and double electric ovens. Best of both worlds.
  16. I have two double sinks in my kitchen. Both are Corian. We have American Standard faucets.
  17. Absolute perfection! Thank you for sharing this link!!
  18. That was wonderful! Thank you!!! I miss him, too.
  19. I will be praying. I know that hurts. :grouphug::grouphug::grouphug:
  20. Bless your heart! I think you do win the prize. Are you guys doing ok? Our power was only out for a day...not too bad this time. Once after a summer thunderstorm/tornado we were out for a week. That was hairy!
  21. The colposcopy is what she did to me. That was ok (not pleasant, but certainly not that bad)....it was when she tried to take a core sample with a scalpel that I told her to stop. This was my first-ever abnormal pap, and it was not of a worrisome grade. I think standard practice with this particular ob was to cover her butt, thus her insistence that I have the procedures. She really let me have it when I told her to stop, and I let her have it right back. She was dreadful. FWIW, all my other paps since (with my new, kind doctor) have been normal. Your spelling is fine :)
  22. Oh, goodness. What a night! I will continue to pray for him, poor guy.
  23. At her age I don't see an issue at all. At my age, with my booKs, I wouldn't do it.
