  1. agree...love Faber. However, that doesn't help with the multiple books, creative teaching with all three at the same time. I would start "formal" teaching with the oldest. Have the younger in with you while you are with the oldest then have the oldest show and tell the younger.
  2. I have been back at it. I got Wii Fit for Christmas... fun... fun... fun... really it is. In addition to that, which unkindly tells the truth that I am obese, I have been doing interval workouts using Jonathan Roche system that I found on flylady. He calls it the No Excuse Workout. So I got some stamps on my Wii calendar for Body Test, and a vote on the No Excuse Workout Challenge poll for 4 days. I feel good about that.
  3. have you heard of Jonathan Roche? http://www.noexcusesworkouts.com/
  4. I haven't been on here in two months I would guess. Did I tell you my doctor said my glucose was high? I am a little not surprised because I have gained weigh --- too much but I still have been exercising three days a week. Anyway he said 30 minutes every day. Okay so I joined this aerobic thing to Latin dance steps and music one hour a week. I am 100% caucasian !! with Scottish and Irish .... a jig maybe --- but the Latin swing your hip thing is a real workout. Jenn, I am excited for your run, I can't believe the time is here. I didn't taper off my training. The week before the 1/2 marathon I ran 8 miles. I never practiced running the whole thing. The day of the run make sure you keep moving! Do not lie down or stop, and stretch a LOT~! Remember, you found me in Disney Quest the day I ran... I was taking the stairs in that place. You will be so stiff if you don't keep moving.
  5. Just now on the nightly news, there was a report that running keeps you young at lessens your risks of health problems! I haven't done any running or exercise late in August.:blushing: My husband just asked if I was going to the gym. No - it keeps me awake at night. MAYBE I will swim a couple of laps? I doubt I will get to that...dd and I are going to the library.
  6. Moved our oldest into University of Tampa yesterday. I really can't believe it! We homeschooled from the very beginning, so I have no experience of dropping my child of on his own until now. I can imagine what it would have been like thirteen years ago because as he walked away from us there was a look about him. One of wide-eyed expectation and innocence of what lay ahead. I had a tight throat and a tear in my eye because I am very proud.
  7. Yeah, shopping with my 4 kids 18 yo, 15 yo, 14 to, 10 yo,and an extra friend 15yo in the mall. We separated (teens with cell phones) to shop, they would txt me and I would go in to the store they were to pay for their purchases. My 10 yo dd all the while with me. I had met up with the 14 yo dd to pay for her purchases and she left to go to the shoe store a couple of stores over when I needed her clarification on the purchase and sent my 10 yo dd to get her. I didn't look the way she went ( I assumed she knew where the shoe store was) Well, you guessed it, she went the wrong way! After too many minutes into my 14 yo dd not returning I went to see and called security, the guy walked a t a LARGO tempo my way and I immediately said call a code adam. He never did! he slowly went looking around for her... It was so scary and frustrating. we found her after she had walked the length of the mall and back - not having a single clue she had been a missing child!
  8. DS is a soccer ref. yeah, it's rubber cleats, they do check and NO metal, or screwed in. he said have your ds run in them, if they fall off - take them back.
  9. after hearing a talk about Mary and Martha... Mary CHOSE the best thing to do... so I CHOSE...made a priority, my time at the gym since I am not in training to run the half marathon until September. I don't know what happened! I haven't done anything in about two weeks! I have put on 15.5 pounds (last I dare weigh myself) since the 1/2 in January. I am so proud of Mrs. Readsalot! And feel bad for me, so uncomfortable, none of my clothes fit. Then, I watch 41 year old Olympic swimmer, Dara Torres, (I'm her age) in her workout and I feel inspired, and mad at myself all at once! I'm too impatient - I want a quick fix. I need to lose 50 pounds!
  10. My hubby has to travel there for work every now and again. He said DC was an hour away...ever been? Use the metro to get around! If you are willing to do some driving, there is Mt. Vernon and Monticello, Manassas (sp.?) battle field and Chancelorville.. Laray Caverns is in West Virginia. You can get a train (or used to be able to) to Baltimore - go to inner harbor. ??
  11. I used Wordly Wise 3000 Book 1 with my fourth grader. Is that right? So Book 2 is 5th grade, Book 3 6th, etc... ??
  12. I am so not trying to pirate Colleen's original thread. It seems that we have united a commuity of sharing experiences of getting moving. So, what do you do about fitness? Jump on board and share your stories.
  13. 30 minutes on eliptical at the gym. It was a little over two miles.
  14. Did anyone see Primetime's Special on his Celebration of Life Tuesday night? He passed away last Friday. My husband's boss gifted him the book when it first came out and I have been passing on the inspiration since.
