You might want to research Eosinophilic Esophagitis. My son had this and it was diagnosed around age 5. The proteins in most foods were causing a reaction in his esophagus.

Any one still interested in Group Buy for VP??
SandBeach replied to dkholland's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I just sent you a PM, but I thought I'd post here too. I could use 3 spots for my kids. Is this still available? Sandy -
I like tenmarks, but the kids in my homeschool co-op class prefer IXL. I am teaching pre-algebra, and I give extra credit for my students if they either do IXL or tenmarks, and they all seem to prefer IXL. I do like the video explanations with tenmarks, though. Sandy

My son has vitiligo on his forehead. I was really worried about it spreading and it hasn't. He has one stripe on one his forehead and I just keep his hair a little long in the front. His vitiligo appeared after a week long daily swim lessons. I don't know if the chlorine was a trigger or not, but now I am extra careful to have him get the chlorine off of him as soon as possible after swimming. He's not bothered at all about his patch. I investigated treatment options early on, but since it doesn't bother him, we chose not to treat. Sandy

I think 3 seconds per problem is plenty fluent on the flashmaster. You can't type the answers much faster than that and read the problem. I would consider that mastered. I have my kids start at 9 seconds, and then go to 5 seconds. After that I go to paper and pencil tests - Calculadder. Sandy

here, too. -
I tutor math and I use the Math Mammoth placement tests and the singapore placement tests to find out where to start and what topics to work on. I also do math drills using Calculadder for the first 10 minutes of each tutoring hour. Sandy

Does anyone regret using Teaching Textbooks?
SandBeach replied to MamaNurse's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I very much regret using teaching textbooks with my 4th grader last year. We had used singapore until last year, then put him in TT6. We went back to singapore this year, and it seems he lost his logical thinking and abililty to think through problems. He can't seem to remember his mental math, and I feel like he is farther behind than he was at the beginning of the year. It was a total waste of the year, but he enjoyed it. I don't think any math program is worth it, just because it is fun. He lost a whole year. I am very disappointed in TT. Sandy mom to 3 sons: 5th, 2nd, K -
Which would you choose?
SandBeach replied to mommyoftwinboys's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I would choose the 5 acres. I live on 1/5 an acre and can see other people's TV shows through my windows. I am really starting to dislike living so close to other houses. The 5 acres sound great. Sandy -
I tried Calvert for K with my 1st, and now I'm still trying to use it for my 3rd. (The same package.) I just don't want to waste my money so I want to use it up, but I find it so time intensive. It is not a program I would recommend. I knew someone who loved it, but she only had one child and had the time to spend with only one. Sandy
