  1. I want to live near (as in, overlooking) a body of water (lake, ocean, large pond) on the east coast, within 2.5’hours of NYC. I currently do, as I have a tiny pond, but this is not a place we can afford to keep in retirement.
  2. Congratulations! As you know, I’m very supportive of this decision. Pls have her ping me when in DC.
  3. My sister used one ❤️so im happy about that (and not listing it lol). All of our kids have somewhat unusual names (for America). I’m sad I didn’t get to use Julien for a boy. There are others but that one is my favorite. for a girl, I had many names I recommended people when they asked but my daughter was always going to be named what she is named, no matter what absolutely anyone else said. 😉 Other girl names I like are Elodie, Manon, Beatrice, Calliope, (Callie for short), Eugenie. (my sister who is a PT says I like old lady names 🤣)
  4. Yes when I was selling my last house we had so many offers if I had received a low ball we had to just flat out decline it as there were plenty of other offers to deal with, I can’t engage with 12 parties. I may have even been offended and refused to entertain a second offer 😉 but it was a crazy market (and we had to play the same game when we bought so of course it goes both ways).
  5. It sounds so great except sleeping in a tent (esp alone). I really need to find a hike that goes hotel to hotel 🤣(or hut to Hut like in Europe)
  6. Depends. Are you Donald Trump? 🤣 https://apnews.com/article/trump-westchester-estate-property-value-investigation-d6a128161e52d1cea94d4ffb54d14ef0 for the rest of us, many millions.
  7. I was talking strictly to work life balance issues. I had a junior associate ask for work and then very clearly delineate for me when she was going on vacation and would be completely unavailable. This is beyond admirable as I cannot bring self to do such things (I’m going camping with two screens, just in case 🤣🤣)
  8. The kids these days seem to be really more immune to crashing and burning than I was a long time ago. And I am saying this only with admiration, not “kids these days…”. I wish I had some of the skills that seem to come naturally to the younger generation. I’m not being facetious.
  9. Same here with Demon Copperhead. But, this invariably happens to me with most prize winners (except for the Man Booker ones. Those have an almost perfect hit rate ❤️)
  10. ETA that I’m happy to chat if she’d find it useful. I only know Biglaw in NYC and in-house asset management though. Have not read responses other than the AI one that jumped at me due to scrolling, does this kid know what they want to do? If they’re interested in the local market/non profit/local government yes by all means take the free ride and be at top of class and they will be fine. however, speaking frankly, for myself and my kids (and, say, DS’s gf who’s looking into this) never would I make that choice. Nope. I gave up almost full rides (forget the exact amounts honestly but it was material) at then-local to me very good private law schools to go to the highest ranked school I was accepted to (think top 40 versus top 10) That was my choice 5 million years ago and that’s my advice now. Go to the higher ranked school and leave for yourself all the options open. If the kid is set for on working in non profits though, then taking all those loans may not make sense. If they don’t know, go the route that gives most optionality. and people complain about the large law firm lifestyle. I don’t know, I find it pretty okay. Certainly there are a lot of lower paying jobs with similar amounts of stress so 🤷‍♀️
  11. I wish AI would be able to take over my job. I’m really not worried though.
  12. My son’s friend at a LAC that’s in rural MA had a hard time first year. It’s also a personality thing. This kid is also on a sports team and even so he couldn’t wait to come home. Granted he was raised in NYC. my son’s roomate went home to NYC or somewhere off campus almost every weekend. then there’s my son, who went and organized a music festival from scratch. As in, got funding from his school, flew artists in, booked contracts and hotels… he’s in an almost (not quite) as rural a location as his friend. In the winter they go skiing after classes etc. Having a car did help so we accelerated that plan by a semester.
  13. Re-listening to Jane Austin. This must be some sort of disorder. Also, Story.
  14. I am also not opposed to pills but Xanax was bad news for me. Such bad news. Find your poison before you set you set off.
  15. Ooh. She’s into anime so the graphic novel would do. Thanks so much!
  16. I have a job now, but I plan to maximize summer fun. Long walks by myself, outdoor concerts, lots of gardening, shakespeare festival. When it’s very hot I love popping into museums for the AC. And the desserts. But also the art 😉
  17. Needs to be read in preparation for watching the play. I’m reading the Folger edition myself, but need something for my daughter. Thank you.
  18. Living in NYC, so many. Andersen Cooper at lunch, guy that plays Christopher in sopranos at an ice cream shop, Mr. big at a chain sandwich/salad shop (by himself and looking miserable), woody Allen and family at a rando dim sum place in Chinatown, and so many I forget. I also work near Fox News HQ now so I see all sorts of unsavories walking in and out. eta that I forgot a run-in. Last house we sold, a certain well known SNL personality made an all cash offer for. This is very ironic for reasons (thinking of a certain skit). Anyway I only found out when I asked for proof of funds and googled the name (different celeb names), and the the outdoor ring camera from the showing confirmed. We did not end up selling to this person though.
  19. Re-listening to all of Jane Austen now. Rosamund Pike is a most excellent narrator.
