  1. Thank you. GeoMatters is a very good idea; it might just be the right year to sneak in geography which tends to get set aside. Still open to other ideas so I can weigh them, too!
  2. I am looking for ideas for 8th grade history/geography next year. I would rather put this child into the 4-year history cycle in 9th grade because he is not ready for a high school level program, and I'd like to hold that off another year. His independent study skills and writing are not up to par for a high school course just yet. Our family plan is to take the CLEP test for major subjects studied in high school, so they need to be up to a true high school level of independent study before beginning a high school course. At least this is what our older son is currently doing. I am looking for ideas to fill in this next year to give him an opportunity to mature academically. A year of geography? A program that is an overview of world history that will lay a foundation to hang high school history on? What ideas do you have? Specific programs? FYI - We have done Sonlight for the last two years, and he needs more specific directions for assignments and writing than the IG gives because she does the least amount possible. And I as mother need hand-holding and a schedule that tells us what to do each day, for history anyway. Thank you so much in advance for all of your ideas! http://heartsforhomeschooling.blogspot.com/
  3. You can get pregnancy tests for an extremely cheap price at http://www.anotherblessing.com/. I am not affiliated with them in any way.
  4. We are in the middle of Sonlight Core 4, US History in the late 1800s. My kids are 9 and 12. I am in need of some ideas to spice it up as we have the middle-of-the-year doldrums. Do you have ideas on something to add or change? Like a textbook, notebooking pages, activities, something to grab their interest? Thanks!
  5. We are using Geography of the 50 States, available at http://www.statehistory.net/. We are thoroughly enjoying it and are combining it with 50 States Under God to cover each state's history. I am using these with ages 15, 12, and 9. There is also an edition available for young learners (age 3 to grade 3). These are great help in building a US notebook keepsake. The information is more than state bird, flag, motto; neither is it extremely broad with too many tiny details; it is just right in our opinion. It is nice to have something that is complete enough that I don't feel like I have to pick and choose from several resources to cover the subject. I do that in enough other areas that a truly open-and-go manual is appreciated. Mrs. Hearts
