  1. DD13 easily finished MUS through precalculus, but instead of continuing on to MUS calculus I'm thinking of moving her to AoPS and digging a little deeper instead of progressing her to college math in early high school. Precalculus is at my limit of ability to teach math effectively. She tests as both ready for and not beyond AoPS Intermediate Counting and Probability and Introduction to Number Theory. She botched a few more questions than I'm comfortable with on the AoPS Precalculus pretest, but I think it's mostly a matter of a few spots of conceptual review. We could brush up on these with Khan and Saxon over the month before the AoPS Precalculus class starts. I'm not sure if independent study or an AoPS online course would be the best fit. As far as scheduling with their online classes, Intermediate Number Theory and Precalculus are both options. Any thoughts on what's the best level of AoPS to start with after MUS Precalculus? Online or independent study?
  2. Awesome, BugsMama! I'm going to do mine to line up with Tapestry of Grace. And yeah, skeeterbug, I'm thinking maybe printable address labels covered with library label protectors (like these: http://www.shopbrodart.com/supplies/labels-protectors-and-bar-coding/protectors/ ) might be the way to go.
  3. Thanks, PentecostalMom! Have you used these? How many come to a sheet? Are they big enough to write on?
  4. That's what I'm looking for: specific recommendations of others' favorite sources/supplies. TY!
  5. I've tried the colored dots (like for marking garage sale items). They don't have enough sticking power! :)
  6. What's your favorite method or product for labeling books? I want color coding & the ability to write on the labels, but I don't necessarily need a label maker...
  7. I love MUS, but think it falls a little short on problem solving skills. I think BA would help with that.
  8. Does anyone combine Math U See & Beast Academy? I have one in Epsilon & one in Gamma and I'd like to add BA. I'm wondering if they can both jump in now or if the one in Gamma should wait. Any experiences with these two programs?
  9. thank you! How does your combo look, practically speaking?
  10. Year 1. This is CHOW, Kingfisher (after the hashmarks), & Ambleside. HTH!
  11. Year 1 or Year 2? Here's my Year 2, w/CHOW, Kingfisher, & Our Island Story for spines. Let me know if you want Year 1 & I can upload that as well.
  12. We're using MUS as our "core" math, if you will, and I'm wanting to add in Singapore Math as a review/to help cement some division concepts before moving on to long division. My question is: would the Singapore workbook or textbook be better (or both!)?
  13. I'm looking for good reference books on states and presidents. Any recommendations?
  14. Thank you! When I went to the link you posted I found the info I wanted (on another page, I think) that said that the version 3 has the parent/teacher features built right into each language program, so it doesn't look like you can use one CD for all languages on level 3, but maybe you can on the previous versions.
  15. Is the educational CD that comes with the homeschool version of Rosetta Stone usable with multiple languages or do you need to purchase the homeschool version for each language? We have the Spanish homeschool version and I'm looking into buying German so I'm wondering if I can save money by buying the non homeschool version and using the CD from the Spanish for the parent administrative tools or are the tools integrated right on the language CDs? I'm away from home & haven't used the Spanish program for awhile, so I don't remember how they're set up.
  16. While you don't have to write at all to use AAS (your DC could use the tiles in lieu of writing), DD does not find the amount of writing suggested to be overwhelming. I usually only have her write 5 of the 10 sentences per lesson, though.
  17. Count me as another vote for AAS! We used Phonics Pathways, but just couldn't keep going when her reading ability took off.
  18. DD gets the concept of borrowing and doesn't have any trouble with the execution as long as she realizes she needs to borrow, but when she has some problems that require borrowing and others that don't, she'll get mixed up and often forget to borrow. Instead, she'll do something like 25-17=12, subtracting the minuend from the subtrahend instead of vice versa. Any tips for helping her get it straight?
  19. Does a general question about helping a child with a specific topic in math belong on the general forum or the curriculum forum?
