  1. both of mine have done projects from it at the age of 11 and had great fun with them ~ in fact, they would both STILL enjoy a lot of those projects at 12 and 13. :)
  2. finally! i was starting to wonder if there weren't any other pippi fans on here!
  3. i.hate.yahoo.groups. i refuse to sign up for anything on them ~ which has meant that i've skipped a few groups that i actually might have enjoyed had they been set up as a forum like this or....anything other than yahoo groups. so ummm unless you have a lot of people like me in your presentation group, all should go well.
  4. first thing that i thought of was pippi longstocking ~ ephraim was her father's name.
  5. i just finished digging seeds out of one for dd13 ~ we don't normally buy them because they're so freaking expensive, but they were on sale for $1.79/each today and i grabbed a couple. i don't really like them - but she does. (and she eats the whole seed)
  6. ds12 is having a snooze & dd13 is watching the simpsons with dh.
  7. the flipside of that, though, is calling and cancelling because you have nobody to watch your kiddo ~ then you're on THAT list. :p
  8. really? :001_huh: the provinces must set their own rules.. i've taken my kids into liquor stores in three provinces without any trouble.
  9. it's still kinda wonked that a 20 year old ADULT would need "permission" (or mommy supervising!) to have a beer after work.
  10. why don't you take his normal glasses off? just thinking - in a theatre with a HUGE screen, he should be able to still see without them?
  11. i find it so strange that you guys (in the states) have such a high drinking age - is it 21 in every state? what's up with that? you could be married, working fulltime, with a couple of kids, and still not be able to have a glass of wine in a restaurant? (it's 18/19 across canada - three provinces have it at 18, the rest at 19)
  12. a cat tree sans cats at the moment four cloth shopping bags full of halloween candy giant wooden painted eeyore & tigger wall hangings laminated maps - world & canada cookbooks scattered across the table because i'm feeling ambitious
  13. hmmm...given the older age range and the request for not even 'mild lego style' violence, i'm wondering if there might be some special needs or something at work here? i'm not asking to be 'nosy' ~ i'm just asking because if there are, it might help for people to be aware of that when it comes to game suggestions. :) i'd have suggested looking for some trivia type games, or word play stuff - but i don't know if those would be appropriate? if there isn't, okay. if there is - might help to add that info.
  14. and what a strange law (the places that have it) - you can't even have your kid with you in the beer store? what's up with that? oh noes! little bobby saw a 2-4! :tongue_smilie:
  15. my mother told me that my father used to take me out for a bike ride when i was 2 (in the old white kid seat) and stop in for a drink somewhere* before we went home - she said he'd take me in and set me right up on the bar counter, sit there and have his beer while i babbled away and tried to grab anything shiny. :p *it wasn't a normal bar; it was something on the base.
  16. that individual would only be able to speak for the CPS office in which she is working. 29 countries have made corporal punishment of a minor by their parents illegal. **************** Corporal punishment of children by parents, is unlawful in the following countries: Austria - since 1989 Bulgaria - since 2000 Croatia - since 1999 Costa Rica - since 2008 Cyprus - since 1994 Denmark - since 1997 Finland - since 1983 Germany - since 2000 Greece - since 2007 Hungary - since 2004 Iceland - since 2003 Israel - since 2000 Kenya - since 2010 Latvia - since 1998 Luxembourg - since 2008 Moldova - since 2009 Netherlands - since 2007 New Zealand - since 2007, when the Crimes (Substituted Section 59) Amendment Act 2007 came into effect. However, a non-binding citizen-initiated referendum on corporal punishment in August 2009 produced a large majority against the ban. A private member's bill was then introduced to Parliament to overturn the ban, but it failed at first reading: see New Zealand corporal punishment referendum, 2009. Norway - since 1987 [3](The Supreme court ruled in 2005 that a light "careful slap" applied immediately after the "offence" is still allowed.[4] Legislature abolished this in 2010, and the current law is that any violence against children, including careful slaps, are prohibited.[5]) Poland - since 2010 Portugal - since 2007 Romania - since 2004 Sweden - Parents' right to spank their own children was first removed in 1966,[6] and it was explicitly prohibited by law from July 1979. Spain - since 2007 Tunisia - since 2010 [7] Ukraine - since 2004 Uruguay - since 2007 Venezuela - since 2007 ********************** in my country (canada) it is still legal but there are restrictions: it can ONLY be the parent or legal guardian (babysitters, grandma, etc can not spank) doing it, the child must be between the ages of 2-12, and only the open bare hand is permitted (no belts, spoons, paddles, or other implements.). also, spanking on the bare bottom is not allowed - there must be clothing/diaper/etc covering the child at the time. personally ~ i will be very pleased when canada is able to be added to the above list. :)
  17. that guy started off babbling about 18 wheelers with brain scanning tools....
  18. i voted 'low fat' - but i was thinking of my own situation when i answered; i can't eat high fat foods without my digestive system being very unhappy. (it doesn't matter if the fat is 'good' or 'bad', it still causes the same problems for me)
  19. this is just horrifying to me. :( this is health care ~ not getting your house painted. the idea of having to shop around and ask for discounts & payment plans.....that's just not right. [and then of course there's the whole "lose everything you own if you get sick" thing.]
  20. this. some radio show guy who writes advice books isn't going to decide what kind of health care my kids get. ;)
  21. check the websites for your local elementary schools ~ they usually have christmas concerts throughout december and those are always fun to watch...christmas songs, plays that always go a little wonky...
  22. one thing i've noticed is that people often suggest "handmade" gifts for when money is tight ~ but that only works if you already own all sorts of crafty stuff....otherwise you're looking at spending a lot of money to buy all of the crafting SUPPLIES and EQUIPMENT. ;)
