  1. and 30s ~ i'm 33 and remember sitting with my brother, making our lists from the wish book! :D doesn't bother me. ds12 doesn't make lists (special needs child) - dd13 does and sometimes hers are outrageous (like having vehicles and puppies on them) but she knows she gets whatever she gets. ;)
  2. i voted 'other' ~ i don't really know exactly what i believe right now....but at the same time, the idea of 'heaven' as this endlessly perfect beautiful amazing shiny gold everybody happy happy joy joy type thing kinda creeps me out. :001_huh:
  3. i'm a vegetarian ~ so i don't eat most of the stuff from "fast food" places. dh & the kids do though and the most common one they use is burger king - mainly because it's just down the road. after that, the next two would be mcdonalds and a local pizza place - both close by as well. oh i do like subway because i can get an awesome veggie sub there ~ i don't really consider them as "fast food" though..i guess because they're healthy  ETA: we have a quiznos here but i've never been to it...are they as good as subway?
  4. i tried that "natural" peanut butter one time and it was gross ~ all weird textured and hard to spread. blech! give me my kraft crunchy. :D
  5. sticking my nose in here for a moment.. my parents divorced when i was 4 and my father took my brother and i to live with him and moved us 4000km away a few months later ~ my mother didn't fight it because she figured he could give us "a better life" since he was military and she was a waitress. please don't assume that just because the father has custody that there is something 'wrong' with the mother. :)
  6. depends where you live ~ i just bought a tiny (and sad looking) head of broccoli the other day and it was $3. :glare: (not glaring at YOU - glaring at the green thing)
  7. isn't san francisco supposed to be all about love & art & hair flowers? ok so that's a bit of a stereotype (but it IS what comes to mind when i hear "san francisco" ~ that and those neat looking trolley things) but really..
  8. San Francisco bans Happy Meals The San Francisco, California, Board of Supervisors on Tuesday banned most McDonald's Happy Meals with toys, as they're now served. something about this bugs me. do we (you! nah, i mean 'we as a society') really need this sort of...babysitting? hand holding? Big Nanny Lawmaker lookin' after all the little people? i don't know...anyone else get what i'm trying (and prolly failing - it's 5:20am and i've only had one cup of coffeeeee) to say here?
  9. not really...some of them might *want* to help, but none of them are really in the financial position to do that.
  10. there ya go. give it away ~ you didn't use it; you bought it for someone else. ;) [and when companies make policies that say you can't resell or whatever, someone should ask them if they're proud to be contributing to the world's ever growing landfills... after all, if you can't resell/donate/etc, what are you supposed to do with the unneeded and unwanted product? cover it with dried flowers and use it for a centerpiece?]
  11. i saw that and laughed at the assumption. ;) ...funny thing though ~ i'm reading and seeing just what i figured i would see...this board DOES appear to have a lot of college/university people....
  12.:lol::lol::lol: did anybody else spot this in the middle of the thread?
  13. currently: nosering & two tattoos on my back :) (i've had other facial piercings but they're out now)
  14. i suspect that there *may* be more college/university people on THIS particular board ~ but no, it certainly isn't necessary. considering that i didn't even go to high school* ~ it would be pretty weird if i went around insisting people needed to have PHDs or whatever to teach their kids. :p *the last grade for which i actually had a report card with some marks on it was eighth. i took my GED exams in 2002.
  15. johana and rose are still my faves. :) by the way - i missed it the first time, but you might want to know that samara is a car. ;)
  16. oh hey - what about the classic christmas shows? Rudolph A Charlie Brown Christmas Twas The Night Before Christmas (this is the one with the mice and the clocktower - it's my dh's fave "from childhood" christmas cartoon How The Grinch Stole Christmas Frosty The Snowman The Little Drummer Boy The Year Without A Santa Claus A Muppet Family Christmas
  17. one of my favourite christmas movies as a little kid was Santa Claus: The Movie ~ which got terrible reviews and most people i mention it to have never heard of it.
  18. i'm not sure what you mean in terms of "requirements" ... ? dd13 will be "required" to pass the written test to get her permit...and "required" to pass the road test to get her license... but i can't think of anything offhand that we would "require" of her - aside from the usual stuff like being ready to do it & not pulling attitudes. :p (ds12 won't be driving due to his disabilities)
  19. halo: it's a video game bliss: i can pretty much *hear* the teasing. think junior high boys. mirabelle: someone already mentioned cows. kayla: waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay over used. we had to tag girls in our old neighbourhood by some sort of identifier: little kayla, big kayla, baby kayla, kayla-with-the-red-hair, and so on. gem: if you were a kid in the eighties, you might remember ~ spelled with the j instead, but it's all i can think of when i hear the name. bella: twilight. which is a shame really - i quite like isabella. *********** there. now that i tore those all up  if i had to pick....i'd go with johana & rose. :D those actually sound good together...johana rose ....
  20. whenever anyone wants a dessert, they have one. it's not always "sweet" - tonight for "dessert" dd13 had a slice of watermelon and ds12 had a cornmeal muffin & half a banana. on the other hand, dessert after lunch was chocolate. it can go either way.
  21. i like it ~ if i'm saying it right in my head...but i'm not so sure now that people have said 'zeke' could be used as a nickname... i thought it was hez-a-ki-ah (long i) ? am i wrong? is it actually hez-ee-kee-ah or something?
  22. just a side note: this board was the first place that i ever heard anyone talk about needing "credits" as a homeschooler. most families that i've known IRL don't do that - their kids are finished when they've done 12 years (or at a specific age). if you think about it - how would a family whose children are unschoolers/life led learners/etc - or even families who follow unit studies, or other "non traditional" approaches to their education count 'credits'? i guess what i'm trying to say is that many homeschoolers graduate without having to follow the same method of calculating things as the public school system. :)
  23. given the situation as described: if she wants to go ~ i'd take her. the rest of the family is going, aside from the "baby" (4 year old) right? i think if you leave her (assuming she wants to go) behind, she's going to feel like you view her as "too little" to support her brother as well and resent it. (i've got some stuff in my own early teens that played out like that - being lumped in with the "babies" - and i'm still sour about it all these years later. that kind of stuff can stick with ya.)
