Is there a resource/book out there that teaches all the ins and out of how to do a research paper. I know SWB has info on the website. But I am looking for a thorough book that my dd could use now and take to college with her later. I haven't had her prepare many in-depth research papers (10+ pages). Now as she is heading off to college, I am feeling like I have not prepared her well enough. I had thought about letting her do one this summer.

Jen, So proud of you. I too used to be a chicken to, until my husband convinced me of all the good that comes from giving blood (besides benefits to the receiver). It really helps with your blood pressure and cholesterol levels. I don't give very regularly (like my husband who has given 4 gallons), but every little bit helps. Way to go!

Can't add a lot of advice to what others stated. Depending on your airline, they may have free movies for you to watch also. Like someone else said, be sure to drink lots of liquids (everytime they come around offering beverages, take something). One other thing, to reduce jet lag, set your watch to the time at your destination and start pretending it is that time. Where are your ports of call in the Mediterannean. We went on a Mediterannean cruise this past fall. Hope you get to go to Santorini; if you do, make sure you ride a donkey to the top (it will be an experience you will talk about forever).

Have any of you seen Enchanted?

We enjoyed watching it! However, it is not one that I would want to watch over and over (once is enough). My ds (age 15) rolled his eyes the whole way through it. -
Pamela, I too have trouble with the whole independence and give my kids room to breathe, think, decide on their own thing. My dd is heading off to college this fall, so I am trying to back off and let her "fly on her own" more. It is just hard when you have been with them 24/7 for the past 18 years of their life. Sometimes I know she feels smothered by both of her parents (that's why she is insisting that she stay in a dorm next year, instead of commuting from home). But yet there are times that she still comes running to mom and dad for support, advice, coaching, etc. So I pray a whole lot that God will show me the right balance of involvment in my children's lives.

Great! I thought it was just my computer having a bad day! I'm relieved that everyone else was experiencing it also! (Misery loves company I guess) -
Would you mind sharing with me what other books have been recommended that you think are better than the Apologia books. I have been absent from the board a long time and haven't heard of these alternatives. My son is looking towards a degree in engineering and I want him to be adequately prepared. Another question, if we go on to take the Advanced Courses through Apologia does that help make up for the deficiencies any, or is the same deficiencies true of the Advanced Courses also? Thanks!

I agree. My children are older teens and I still don't feel comfortable "dropping them off" at certain events. There have been very few times that I have allowed my dd to spend the night at others houses. Instead, we try to be proactive and have the kids in our home. I really want to know the person in charge of the activity, before I "drop them off". There are too many weirdos out there. I also try to teach my kids what to do in case they are in a situation that they do not feel comfortable.
