  1. My grandma used to make this and bring it for holiday dinners. I was a pretty picky eater but still would eat this except for the peas. And it was pretty in a glass bowl.
  2. It's just dh and I. We're doing pulled pork sliders and we'll probably make some guacamole. That sounds kind of meager, but we don't need to eat a ton!
  3. Day 12 of 30 Days of Yoga this morning. I think we have a nice day today, and not a huge amount of schoolwork so looking forward to a nice weekend.
  4. Well the site was down when I had time to check in. Tuesday: Day 11 yoga, walk with dd Wednesday: Fitbymik cardio workout Thursday: Fitbymik dumbbell workout
  5. That's wonderful! So glad for you all.
  6. 30 min on the treadmill this morning (only because dh had an early zoom meeting and had to wake up early enough for me to able to use the treadmill). @Eos I use fitbymik standing dumbbell workouts, usually the full-body ones but I've done arms a few times. It's certainly a place to start.
  7. Around here there are students who mask when returning from illness as your dd is planning to do. There are a couple of older staff members who always mask. Teachers definitely mask when they have a cold or something (I think most test and wouldn't be in school with Covid, but it's hard to be absent so they will teach if feeling ok and testing negative but obviously have something like a cold. But masked).
  8. Not sure what model we have--just two racks which seems fine. But my big thing was definitely the stainless steel interior. We were replacing a builder's grade whirlpool that turned pink with some kind of algae type growth. Yuck.
  9. We liked Night Agent last summer.
  10. We watched that when we were iced in for 5 days in January. We enjoyed it. I like the limited series that aren't such a huge commitment.
  11. I sat in one at a friend's house for bookclub and it was incredibly comfortable--just formed right to me. We have an empty corner in the living room because we moved a chair and ottoman to dd's room for another place for her to sit when not in wheelchair. Would this be a comfortable place to read or do schoolwork?
  12. Loving the pictures. We've had warm temps that feel spring-like. And now I check my watch and see that it's currently 34°! But beautifully sunny, high still a warmish 54. Back to the 40's and rain in the coming week. I think today is the day to finish taking down the Christmas lights (I purposely leave them up during the darkest days of January and then wait for a dry weekend to take them down). Day 10 of 30 days of yoga was a good fit for me this morning. Working on eating better the last couple of days and will continue that this weekend (it's actually easier on weekends).
  13. 30 min on the treadmill this morning. We have a teacher work day between the two semesters today. Much to do, but a more relaxed work environment today. Like I can be slightly later.
  14. I'm not seeing a new thread so here goes. Hmmm...I have not lost the holiday weight yet. Too much stress eating. Trying to stop that and I'm actually looking forward to Lent starting on 2/14 when I cut out the sweets. I'm also trying to not eat after 6:30 pm to see if that helps with digestive issues interrupting sleep. Fitbymik dumbbell workout today.
  15. I did slowly build up to returning to teaching, and it wasn't clear that I would ever find anyone who would hire me. I took classes for units to renew my long-expired teaching credential during youngest's last year homeschooling. I volunteered at my high school's tutoring center for 3 years before that when she was taking band/science at the middle school. I subbed for a year just to pick up enough money for Christmas and extras. When I figured out that a regular schedule would fit better, I got a job as a math educational assistant at the high school. Way over-qualified for that and I got to do a little long-term subbing for math teachers during that time. I got my opportunity to teach again when someone did not want to return to the classroom Fall 2021 amidst Covid worries. I do love what I do, but I also have the least seniority and with budget cuts looming I do think about what else I could do if this goes away. I think there is a bias against hiring older workers. Comparing EA's of my age compared to younger hires, I think companies are stupid to not hire more of us. We have a better work ethic and have just learned so much over the decades, they really get their money's worth. So go into this with confidence, not so much worried that you don't have a job experience but realizing how much you have accomplished and how much you know and can do through raising kids and homeschooling them.
  16. And today I went back and did the relaxing Day 8 yoga. Did not have a good night, did not sleep well, and my calves are killing me--not sure from what. Can't be yesterday's yoga--must be Monday's fitbymik workout but I can't remember any particular killer calf workout.
  17. Tuesday is my yoga day. I skipped Day 8 (the relaxing one I want to do at the end of the day whenever I get a day that I'm not working until bedtime) and this morning I did Day 9 which had enough planks and downward dogs to feel more exercise-y. I'll try to get dd out for a short walk this afternoon.
  18. There's a S'mores girl scout cookie this year. I almost ordered a box (went with 2 thin mints, one samoa, one tagalongs instead).
  19. Beautiful! Do you share what general part of the country you are in? Obviously a snowy part. Perhaps Canada? Did schoolwork pretty much until bedtime yesterday. With some football watching mixed in. No yoga. May try for Day 8 yoga tonight. This morning was a fitbymik cardio that I hadn't tried before. It included floor work which I usually avoid but the pets loved it. And there may have been a few tummy rubs and ear rubs that were not part of the video (but are surely good for lowering my blood pressure).
  20. I have my grandmother's old china cabinet, passed down to me when my aunt passed away. It's a smaller scale than such things are typically built today. Needs refinishing too, but it does come in handy for holding all the stuff.
  21. I was hoping based on the post title that this is what I would find inside!
  22. Day 7 of 30 days of yoga this morning. I remember that Day 8 is always a relaxing one, so maybe I will try to do that tomorrow (I don't usually do anything on Sundays). It would be a nice way to end a day or a week but I don't think it will feel like it should count on one of my exercise days. Rainy weekend ahead with lots of schoolwork (end of semester grading etc).
  23. Dog walk yesterday but dh is home now and will run the dog this morning so after 4 days of just walks, I did day 6 of 30 days of yoga which was some core work. Not my favorite, but a good way to do something different.
  24. The not-being-able-to-do-the-thing before the due date does seem to be characteristic of this age. Not everyone, but soooo many. My dd would not could not submit any college application before 11:30pm the night it was due at midnight. She could not hit the "accept" button for her university the day before the last possible day--it had to be the last possible day. Seriously put her in panic attack mode to try to get her to do it before (and she is not an anxious person). I see it in students too--if it's possible to do it later, they'll do it later (or say they will)--anything to avoid doing it now. But if it is you and your dh (not your son) who pays the price of missed tuition breaks or whatever he's going for on Feb 1, I would absolutely be sitting down with him this weekend and work together to get it done. Every teacher of seniors moans about second semester. They aren't motivated for anything (except some AP students with tests in May). They can be difficult to teach.
