  1. I teach high school math in person. During the shut down Zoom era we know students used Photomath and cheated their way through everything. And then we returned to in-person with in-person paper tests, no tech allowed. It was a rough year. They knew less than they knew before shut down because they actually lost skills they once had through atrophy of thinking muscles.

If I taught language arts, I think I would have writing done in-class where we can at least lock down the tech a bit. I do think this generation will use AI for a lot, but I would prefer that to happen after they have developed their own writing abilities.

  2. I did Jessica Smith's Cardio Core Flow this morning. Did not sleep well--woke up a lot. This is always a rough week adjusting to the time change--alarm woke me this morning (I usually wake up 5-10 min before).

  3. What we learned about norovirus is it's super contagious and will spare no one. And you're still contagious after you're feeling better, so stay away from others. But pretty short-lived (except for the hitting everyone serially part).

  4. Day 21 of 30 Days of Yoga this morning. Lots of schoolwork this weekend. Still cold and rainy but yesterday reached the high 50's. Next weekend looks glorious--in the 60's. I am a bit sleep deprived and really not looking forward to the time change, but I went to bed early last night and I'm up early today to spread the adjustment over more days.

  5. 20 min on the treadmill this morning. And dd and I took a short walk yesterday, during which we discovered that while sunny and not raining, it was just a little too cold for a walk (45°) and then her wheelchair foot plate just fell off at the end of the walk.

I was tempted to buy the Waterford heart ring holder when it was on post Christmas sale at Macy’s

My grandmother gave me something like this when I was a teenager (not Waterford I'm sure!) It's still where I keep my rings every night.

Re Prongs: a good local jeweler checked my ring maybe 20 years into marriage and said they still looked good. I had the ring re-sized maybe 30 years into marriage (dog leash injury permanently changed size of knuckle) and at that point they said to re-tip them so I did. A friend did lose the diamond from her ring and found it eventually in the front seat of her car.

  7. I'm facing our front window watching the snowflakes come down--beautiful. We have night/morning snows probably over the next few days but with highs in the 40's it will melt off quickly. After I got to school yesterday the snow was coming down and started sticking--all of the students wondering if they'll cancel school and send us home. Umm, no, not with the temps rising. No snow anywhere by the time school was over. But I think we wouldn't mind a 2-hour delay on Monday (no more cancelled days please--we have to make those up in June).

I skipped Flow Day 18 (9 min meditation) and went on to Day 19 this morning. I want yoga to feel like at least a little exercise. Maybe I'll pick up Day 18 some evening when I want to relax.

  8. Yesterday I thought it was Friday--treadmill day for me. So I did 16 min on the treadmill (after grading some papers). So today I did a dumbbell workout I should have done yesterday.

We have big fat snowflakes this morning but they melt after a few seconds on the ground. A nippy 34° here.

  9. We have open shelves in our hall bathroom that are obscured when the door is open. You have to be in the bathroom with the door closed to see them. They're a bit of a mess right now (I need to clean them off a bit), but it can look pretty nice when I try. They're wider, so I have room for two piles of folded towels on 1 shelf, I have three 20-year old white wooden bins from Target across the next, 3 white plastic basket bins across the next, and I should clean up the top shelf into bins. The bins hide collections of like stuff--OTC meds, bandages, teen girl grooming supplies, etc, but they look nice and neat--I don't feel like I need doors at all.

  10. Woke up at 4:00 and never fell back asleep. So I got up a little early and did a full 30 min workout--another Jessica Smith. I used to do treadmill 5 days a week but about 4 years ago my shoes were too tight and I got tensor tendonitis. It only hurt if I had a shoe across the top of my foot. So I searched for barefoot exercises and found Jessica's Cardio Ballet--did that one today. Through the process I decided a variety of exercises is better for me than treadmill every day. And I think barefoot exercise keeps my feet a bit healthier--no problems the last 4 years anyway.

Stepped on the scale and I'm down to a pound range I haven't seen since mid-December.

  11. Nothing yesterday. Today I did a Jessica Smith cardio workout--haven't done one of hers in awhile and it was a nice switch up. I picked this one for the length--25 min. Longer than 20 but a little bit shorter than the 30 min workouts which seem to really be about 32 min. I have time to sit here for a few minutes. We're back to colder rain this week after a few days that felt like spring. There' s even a snowflake on my weather app for Friday and Saturday.

  12. I'm not on vacation anywhere. Just missing too much exercise time this week with too much school work to do. And stressed a bit because they'll be cutting teachers next year and I have the least seniority if they cut any high school math teachers at any school. So I tell myself if I lose my job then I can just go on a nice vacation. But mostly the worry just causes stress I don't need.

I did a little treadmill Wednesday and Friday. Day 16 yoga this morning.

  13. I vote for nothing in the commode room except the commode. No occupying that space for teeth brushing, grooming, etc. And having two sinks is great for multiple users, so two sinks in the main bathroom area (and commode room should have a door so someone can use that space while someone else is brushing teeth, etc.

Yesterday I bought some slightly heavier weights at goodwill (5 pounds instead of my 3) and did a half hour video with them, it still felt easy.  I'll be on the lookout for heavier ones. Today I'm heading out for an 8 mile walk, carrying weights in my backpack.

I use my 5 lb weights the most. When Mikaela is using 8's I use 5's for all 2 weight exercises and I can use an 8 for the 1 weight exercises. I find it too difficult to do the lateral out away from the body lifts with anything heavier than 5's--hard on my shoulders. Bicep curls, dead-lifts, squats I'm fine with heavier, but not the lifting the arm out to the side away from the body.

But today was yoga day. Day 15 of 30 days of yoga and hoping for a quick walk with dd this afternoon.

  15. It was definitely worse in the younger not even teens yet years. The dd who started puberty early, it was more like 10-12 and it was middle school years for the other. I can remember the feelings I had toward my own mom who I was always closer to than my dad, yet you get to that age where you're just programmed to separate your identity I think. And all the hormones....

  16. I got 30 min on the treadmill yesterday then Day 14 of 30 Days of Yoga this morning (and it was a longer one). I am now within a half pound of my pre-winter break weight. It's crazy how quickly and easily I gain a few pounds and how long and hard it is to get them back off. Lenten sweets fast has begun and I'm not eating after dinner (still have to remind myself of this) which seems to help me sleep better.
