  1. Good heavens! Do you have a hidden camera in my house?!? this happens to us daily! :willy_nilly:
  2. If you know of any that you can recommend, please let me know. We're a military family relocating to Rhode Island in June/July. Thanks!

  4. I'm a former L&D nurse & current childbirth educator. I teach natural childbirth & encourage my couples to know & understand the anatomy & physiology of pregnancy & birth. For curious siblings & for my own kids who know more about birth than most adults, I can offer some recommendations for a gentle introduction to questions about birth: Baby on the Way by Dr. Sears Cartoon-style drawings of a family expecting their 3rd child. Great tips on how to adapt the text to fit your specific situation(dr/midwife, hospital/home, c-section/vaginal). This was my family's favorite. How was I Born? by Lennart Nilsson Photographs go along with the two sets of text--one simple, one more details. Beautiful photos of babies inutero. My kids liked the picots, but thought the text was too long. Welcome with Love by Jenni Overend A beautiful story of a home birth with lovely drawings of the family & their home. FYI, a few of the drawings depict the mother as she gives birth in a standing position. No drawings of the perineum, but you do see her bare legs, belly & breasts. My dd(5yrs) LOVED this book while awaiting the birth of our fourth child. Birth is truly wonderful & I get giddy when I'm able to share my enthusiasm for birth with people, especially my kids. :001_wub: Good luck sharing this amazing part of our human experience with your kiddos!
  5. Thanks for all the tips & encouragement. I especially appreciate the iPhone idea. I use voice memos for many of our memory pieces, but hadn't thought to use it for the dictation. This will free me up to do some thing with my other kiddos & give ds all the repetition he needs! I'll check out SWB video, too. Thank you!
  6. My 3rd grader just can't take dictation. We're at the end of WWE3, and ds cannot do the dictation exercises correctly. He can paraphrase if I give him only one sentence at a time, but taking dictation of the long, multi-sentence exercises is simply beyond him. So, where do we go from here? Repeat WWE3 next year? Are there recommendations for work we could do over the summer to bring him up to speed? Any tips for making WWE a bit easier for him? Thanks!
  7. We started homeschooling when our oldest was in 2nd grade, dd was K, ds was 3 yrs old. They all LOVED SOTW 1!! I chose to purchase the CDs, so we could listen on my iphone, but the kids didn't just want it during history class---they request to listen to SOTW in the car while we run errands! I also hesitated to start with SOTW 1 since we're "off schedule," but it hasn't been a problem. Now they're all doing SOTW 2 and enjoying every minute. Plenty of age appropriate options for each child. I plan to continue with SOTW 3 for next school yr for all of them.
  8. 2 hospital, 2 home(1 of these was a water birth). I'm a labor & delivery nurse by training--I consider myself reformed. DH & I sing the praises of home birth!
  9. Cloth on all 4 kiddos. Bought a stash with dc1 & they've lasted for all the kids. Nice to buy only once! Also use elimination communication part-time beginning when they are able to sit up independently on a little potty (usually around 6 or 7 months).
  10. Thank you, thank you, thank you for all these great ideas. I've dreaded ending summer vacation because I don't want to hear dd6 whine all day about school. Perhaps with these new ideas, I can quit threatening to take her to our parish school!
  11. My 7 yr old does well with Rosetta Stone Spanish. 5 yr old & 3yr old do well with the choose-the-correct-photo parts, but struggle with the pronunciation sections. The don't speak English perfectly( r sounds like w), so the voice detection software doesn't recognize what they are trying to say. They get mad at the program for telling them they pronounced words incorrectly even though they said it as well as they could. All that said, I still love the program. We're chatting in Spanish at the dinner table :)
  12. We also love HWT. Have you looked on their website at the "A Click Away" activities?http://www.hwtears.com/clickaway/grade1 You need to register & enter the code listed on the teacher's manual. It has some printables & other ideas for when the workbook has been completed.
