  1. Technically they are a berry. Mmmmmmm!!! Ice cream sundaes anybody??
  2. I bake at least once a week. I recommend a Kitchenaid or other mixer which can knead the dough for you. This makes bread making very easy.
  3. Did you know that a grain is a vegetable? veg⋅e⋅ta⋅ble 1.any plant whose fruit, seeds, roots, tubers, bulbs, stems, leaves, or flower parts are used as food, as the tomato, bean, beet, potato, onion, asparagus, spinach, or cauliflower.2.the edible part of such a plant, as the tuber of the potato.3.any member of the vegetable kingdom; plant. ;)
  4. Yep, it all started when the government decided to stick their hands into the market. Check out the Community Reinvestment Act.
  5. For many people carrying a handgun is as natural as putting on pants in the morning. I was referring more to the "wild animal roaming the neighborhood" scenario. The specifics of this case are certainly different. My understanding is the friend was called in to help the owner lure her agitated chimp back into her home. I think ideally the owner would have been trained and equipped to deal with her animal if she did lose control of him. (dart gun etc.,) Barring this, she could have called animal control. It is a completely tragic story, and I wish like anything it hadn't happened. I think t
  6. I know this is really bad, that I shouldn't be laughing at others' expense, but... but...

Your "Ignoramus of the week" comment cracked me up!!

  7. I completely understand why this cause would not be meaningful for you. I feel strongly that you should have the right to choose which causes are worth supporting and which are not. Isn't it much nicer to have that liberty than to have your money taken forcibly and redistributed according to the judgement of people who do not understand or share your values??
  8. I also wonder why people are so willing to trust their government to be honest and virtuous and truly have their own best interests at heart. Isn't this a rather naive view of human nature?
  9. #1. My understanding was we were discussing a tragic event that took place in the U.S. and whether the U.S. should respond with legislation to prevent it from happening in the future. Was I mistaken about this? #2. What do you propose should be the authority? #3. Just because three is such a nice number.
  10. Thank you! I was way too tired to articulate last night. I appreciate you taking my thoughts and running with them.
  11. My favorite is an old fashioned Mason jar with a piece of cheesecloth over the top for straining. They cost about $1.
  12. I actually wonder if to some extent we have abdicated our responsibility for protecting our own families. I guess that is a topic for another thread, though. ...and yes I am still up... it is 12:30 here *sigh*
  13. I've got it! #1. My neighbors can own any pet they please. #2. I have a gun. I knew there was a conservative solution ;) Good night all!
  14. I wasn't clear about whether the couple owned the property. If they do, they should be able to live as they please.
  15. I am trying to figure out what this has to do with keeping primates as pets. I was agreeing with pqr until Hillfarm made some very well-reasoned points that haven't been directly addressed. #1. If professionally trained animal handlers occasionally fail to contain an animal, how much more difficult can this be for an average citizen? #2. This is a weak analogy.
  16. We recently gave money to support a teen in our church so she could make an overseas mission trip. We felt it was an investment both in the ministry, as well as her personal growth, and she is becoming a fine young Christian woman. :001_smile: If you feel led, give. If you don't, ignore the request. The beauty of the America that I love is having the freedom to give or not give according to my convictions. ;)
  17. Yup! Corelle doesn't chip, but if you drop it, it shatters into a million pieces. I think that is a beautiful set of dishes, though. I would go for it if I had the $$.
