  1. Once a month, another local Home educator and her 2 kids come to our home 11.30-5.30 & look after my 4 kids, to enable me to go to work. I have scheduled that particular day as a free day, and essentially it's a play date. We agreed that £10 ($15)per hour was a good deal for both, so £60 total, that's about $95. Hope this helps.
  2. Thanks very much everyone :001_smile: We're moving on in WWE, doing 3 'weeks' in a week and aiming to complete SOTW 2 & 3 by next September. This should enable us to catch up. Ds will continue at the normal pace for him. Thanks again x
  3. We've fallen behind with our work and I need some advice please. We've been homeschooling for 4 years now, but didn't start formal schooling until 2/3 years ago (classical). I teach my Dd (9) and Ds (7) at the same time and we pretty much go with the grade in between them. So at the moment that would be grade 2, right? However after baby 4 and a period of illness (me) we've fallen behind somewhat and I'm not sure how to go about catching up. Dd will be in grade 4 from Jan (we run Jan-Dec academic year) but we've only just started WWE 2 and are mid-way through SOTW 2 and FLL 2. Her reading is good. She's just starting Singapore maths level 4. We've done very little RSO- earth sciences and DH is to tackle that. The consensus seems to be that you follow the age level of the oldest child and the rest sort of slot in, but does it matter if it's not that way? How do I get her up to speed without sickening her with the amount of work we need to do? I don't want to accelerate Ds, as he's working at a level that's good for him, but I've been teaching them together to manage time better. Is teaching them separately the only option? They have separate maths, but that's about it. Any advice would be gratefully appreciated, please. I'm struggling with guilt that she's fallen too far behind
  4. I have no clue what I spend on educating our kids. I do know that every penny is absolutely worth it! I'm addicted to buying books though, I admit it. I go through the additional reading lists and do the most damage right there. There is something wonderful about pulling the book you need right off the shelf to read. I'm just not organised to order it from the library and take it back again  I blame SatoriSmiles, everytime I read her blog, I end up spending money heehee
  5. I'll have a good look at those links. You've all been really helpful, thanks x
  6. I'm only going to use it for my kids, not pass it on, so it's great that I can print it later on, when the younger ones need it. I've looked at the rock kits, they look good. I think I'll definitely get those. I admit it, I'm lazy when it comes to curriculum  I'd much rather have it delivered in a box with instructions heehee. Thanks for all your help ladies x
  7. So, I decided to go with the ebooks for RSO. I'm a bit confused as to the download restrictions though. I have downloaded & saved it to my desktop and printed 1 copy off. Will be able to print more copies off for my other kids later on? Or will I need to print off all the copies I'll need now as I won't be able to do it later? I haven't really used ebooks before, so it's all a bit new to me  Can I also ask, is it worth buying the kit to complete the experiments or gathering all the stuff you need separately?
  8. Hi, I have used the SOTW and combined Geography with it for my two eldest. Last year we did the map work, read folk tales around the culture and look at things like flags and some national customs/holidays. This year, however, we've ramped it up a bit and included Top Secret Adventures, which I'm using to study the countries and civilisations we cover in SOTW2. So we've finished Japan and they are doing the TSA for Japan, for example. When we covered India, we watched the mini series 'The Ganges', that kind of thing. I'm trying to incorporate as much multi-sensory stuff as possible. hth
  9. :) Thanks for those recommendations ladies. Truly appreciated. Just got to decide which one now!
  10. It's for use with a 9yo and a 7yo & we're covering Earth Sciences this year. It has to available to the UK too. Do you mind telling me what are you using for this area?
  11. I have just spoken to Highlights, the company who produce TSA. They don't have a license to ship internationally, which is why it's not available to us. However, it is legal to ship it to someone in the USA and then for them to ship it to the UK. So I have contacted a friend in NJ to see if she would be willing to receive the shipment and forward it onto me. I'm buying the entire series in one go though, not the monthly subscription. Cost is about $359, inc. shipping within the USA. No idea how much it will be to get it over here though.
  12. It's the one thing we never seem to get around to and I honestly can't say why that is. SWB recommends they are done for Reading. Each time I read through the section in TWTM I think "yes, that sounds fine, we'll do that", but then when I come to do it I get a mental block  Are you all making the notebooks and how do you do it? There must be a way for it to just click with me....
  13. I was inches away from subscribing to My Little Passport, but then saw TSA and we just love the whole thing. If they email me back tomorrow I'll let you know. Praying they say they want my money....all $300 of it, likely!
  14. Any suggestions? I've emailed them and asked to buy the whole lot in one go, if they'll ship to the UK. Other than that, can anyone recommend a way around the US delivery only. My kids are itching to get a hold of this since we saw it online Thanks x
  15. We're considering getting these, but the cost is a bit scary (we're in the UK). Have you used them, would you use them again? Is it good value for money? Thank you for any advice you can offer
  16. It's book 1/2 combined. Will contact Peace Hill Press, thank you.
  17. We got to Lesson 75 only to turn the age and see Lesson 58!! It carries on repeating Lessons 58-75, then jumps to Lesson 87  Is anyone else's copy like this? I don't really want to order a new copy for 12 pages, will we miss much if we just skip to Lesson 87? thanks x
  18. Oh thank you so much! It is funny the little wobbles we have isn't it? My Dh did say to me I was worrying about very little, but it still niggles in the back of your mind doesn't it? Off to plan and shop for next year :D Thanks again, for the link & replies x
  19. Hello, I'm new to the site :) We been homeschooling for 3 years now. The first 2 years were semi-structured as we welcomed another 2 children into the family :) Then we discovered TWTM and started it this academic year. We love it!! BUT.... we seem to have fallen into the habit of teaching my now 8yo & 6.5yo together (we have just come to the end of the Ancients.) I've only just realised that my 8yo Dd1 should really have covered Medieval History etc. according to TWTM. Will it matter? I'd hate to think I've effectively kept her back a year :001_unsure: Having said that, I'm working my Ds1 at the next year up, arent' I? Will this have a detrimental impact later on do you think? Does anyone else teach two children of different ages together at the same level? (they are 18mo apart) I'm planning for the next academic year, but wanted peoples thoughts on this before I order books/resources because I'm feeling unsure about it. Thank you x
