  1. Does the homeschool buyers co-op ever offer deals on Math Mammoth? I think it's on sale now on KAGI but I'm wondering if I wait I can get it for even less from the co-op?
  2. I switched from LoE Foundations to Reading Lessons through Literature and it's working much better for us.
  3. I missed a set that was for sale so it looks like I will have to buy new directly from the website. The description for CE says the teacher's manual is not usable by students?? Also, I was planning to save a little money and purchase the black and white editions. Does anyone think I MUST have the color editions?
  4. Hi. Would I be able to use the teacher manuals only for Grammar Town, Paragraph Town, and CE 1? Thank you.
  5. I thought the solutions manuals I linked to were for the workbooks, not the textbook. So, you cannot buy solutions to the workbooks but they are available for download (for a price?) on the Pearson website if I can prove to them that I am homeschooling?
  6. Is this what you bought? Student solutions manuals? http://www.pearsonschool.com/index.cfm?locator=PS1lMk&PMDBSOLUTIONID=6724&PMDBSITEID=2781&PMDBCATEGORYID=811&PMDBSUBSOLUTIONID=&PMDBSUBJECTAREAID=&PMDBSUBCATEGORYID=23496&PMDbProgramId=129801&elementType=programComponents I'm sorry but I'm still confused. It appears that I can't purchase the solutions manuals from this website. Only the workbook?? And, I bought my workbooks on Amazon and they are not the same edition. Have they changed?
  7. Would someone help me? My dd is using Knight this year with regentrude's schedule. How exactly do I find the solutions? I'm not familiar with how to use Chegg. Can I find solutions for both the text and the workbooks on Chegg?
  8. My dd is definitely trustworthy and can grade her own work. She just enjoyed the ease of using the 2.0 edition of Algebra 2 this year and was a little bummed that it was not yet available with pre-calc.
  9. I was told that it would not be available at the start of the 2014-2015 school year so I should purchase the current edition. But, if it would be ready by September, I might wait. Did they actually say maybe September?
  10. I was not sure how other programs worked. I suppose it would be the same. I guess I was wondering if there was something out there she would like better. I did email TT and it will not be available by next fall. It probably is best to stick to TT. Thank you for your help.
  11. My dd has taken TT Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 in grades 9, 10, and 11. She is ready for their pre-calculus program for her senior year. However, the updated version is not yet available. She is willing to use it anyway but she has used the first edition geometry without the automatic grading and it is a not as convenient as the newer 2.0 versions. Is there another pre-calculus program that she might use? One that is not too expensive? Since she has used TT in high school so far I was not sure if she would be able to jump into another math curriculum easily. It is my understanding the that different math programs cover different things at different times and switching might not be a good idea at this point. She has done well with TT and I feel she is a strong math student and could have been put on a faster track in math but I didn't realize that until too late. In elementary she used Miquon, Singapore, and Life of Fred Fractions, Decimals, and Percents before beginning TT 7. If it matters, she will most likely be attending a community college or state university next fall majoring in something art related. She'd love to be a animator.
  12. You know, I've done exactly the opposite of what you have suggested here. I wish I would have asked before I started using Brave Writer. Now I wonder if I should go ahead and purchase Partnership Writing instead of trying to get all the way through TWJ first. I have been figuring things out as I go. I get the daily emails and then follow up with reading in TWJ about how to implement certain aspects of the program and develop a Brave Writer lifestyle in our home but maybe that is taking the long way around? I apologize to the OP. I don't mean to hijack this thread.
  13. I didn't see the post by farrarwilliams before I posted. That's probably a much better way to get started. I should have asked before I jumped in to it.
  14. There are others here who will do a much better job of telling you about Brave Writer so I won’t even try but I will tell you what I am doing as someone who is also testing the waters. First, I purchased the digital version of The Writer’s Jungle from here for $40. https://www.homeschoolbuyersco-op.org/brave-writer/?c=1 After reading through the beginning and getting a better feel for the program I ordered back issues of the language arts program (The Arrow, The Boomerang) to see how that went. I have not yet taken the next step and ordered Partnership in Writing. We are still getting our feet wet and there is a lot of information in The Writer's Jungle that I have yet to sort through. My dd (9) is also doing WWE so, I don’t know when I will order the next portion but I must say I LOVE what we are doing so far.
  15. It was a long day yesterday and I just got back to this. I will say I agree with Calming Tea's comparison to ice cream. She explains it perfectly but I'll add about our experience anyway. As I mentioned, my dd used A Nature Walk with Aunt Bessie a few years ago when she was 10/11. I have not seen or used any other books in the nature series. I do agree with the previous posters comments concerning the quality of some of Queen’s materials. It does seem like some of their products are expensive compared to what you actually get. While the pictures in the Language Lessons book are lovely and in full color the pictures in the nature book look like poorly done photo copies. They are black and white, dark; some are even blurry with poor detail. For this reason I didn’t have my dd use the book itself as her nature journal per the author’s suggestion. Instead, I purchased nice quality sketch books and by the end of the year my dd had 2 of them filled with beautiful drawings of her own . I also found the book did not have adequate space for some of the writing assignments so my dd wrote those on separate sheets of paper or typed them. There are activities and experiments for some lessons. Most of them involved observing bugs or crawly creatures in nature. We had a decent sized backyard, access to a lake, woods, and garden so my dd was able to find almost everything she was looking for. She collected some specimens in jars. We school year round with breaks scattered throughout the year so she completed some assignments during the summer months when bugs were plentiful. There were also a few craft type activities. Not all the activities were of interest to her so I didn’t require she do them every one of them. As far as being a solid, complete, stand alone curriculum, well, it depends on what you want. I wanted to do a year of nature study combined with some living science books so this curriculum worked well for that. It was a full year of nature related assignments. I needed a little guidance on how to actually ‘do’ nature study and this curriculum served that purpose. My dd was able to do much of A Nature Walk independently. She developed good observation and research skills and enjoyed her time outdoors. That same year I also did SCM’s Outdoor Secrets with my little ones so everyone had a fun, nature filled year. I am going to do something like this again with my 9 year old but I plan to use this instead. The layout, quality, and organization is much better and it was half the price. http://simplycharlottemason.com/store/jacks-insects-narration-nature-study-notebook/
  16. I used one of the books with my dd a few years ago and I'd be happy to tell you more about it later today. I'm on my way out the door. :)
  17. Thanks for all the suggestions! I'm sorry if I missed any or didn't respond to comments. I've been looking at everything mentioned and I think mom and I have a good idea of what to use. You've all been a great help!
  18. I'm sorry. i don't know how to multi quote. It won't be for just 12 weeks. He will be out the rest of the year. And, mom doesn't want just fun stuff, but more keep life normal stuff. They both are interested in the cursive. I've seen his printing. It's petty good and I think he will enjoy giving cursive a try. Looked into virtual school and it was way too much work for both mom and son. And thanks for the info on Riley. I'll let mom know.
  19. Homebound instruction is only available by taking her son to the library for 3 hrs every afternoon after school. She didn't like that option.
  20. I was reading some reviews and learned that the 4th grade book has the spelling lists written in cursive. Is this true? If so, I don't think it would work for a boy that doesn't write in cursive. Or, maybe begin at 3rd grade since he is a little behind academically? I'm looking for a workbook for spelling.
