  1. DS (2nd grade in the fall) loves the narration parts of WWE. I'd like to add something next year for literature that would allow us to read poems, short stories, and excerpts and discuss them. (I guess I'm remembering the textbook approach from my own elementary years, but when I look at them now, the selections don't always seem as interesting as those in WWE.) Is there anything like this with really great selections? Or I guess I could just use textbooks and let him pick and choose what piques his interest?
  2. We bought a luxury firm in November because we wanted something with more support. (We were both having back/hip pain with our memory foam mattress.) It turned out to be really, really firm. The first couple of weeks I felt like I might as well have been sleeping on the floor. It got a little better as we broke it in, but we still had body parts falling asleep and we weren't sleeping well, so it went back a couple of weeks ago.
  3. Almost 2200 miles away. I've lived pretty far since I got married. (DH was military, and then he moved into an industry that limits our choices a bit.) I wish we could be close, but that would probably mean less income in a HCOL area. :-(
  4. We just tagged along with my husband on a business trip in October. We were only there a week, but I liked it a lot. Other drivers were very patient! My kids spent hours at the Iowa Children's Museum. I think they'd move there just for that! Good luck!
  5. We've only had our current mattress for a little over a year (tempur-pedic-like material, had great reviews), but DH and I have so many aches and pains sleeping on it. I was pregnant when we bought it, so I expected hip and back pain, and when it continued after the baby was born, I thought maybe I just needed to lose the baby weight. However, we just went on a trip and spent a week sleeping in different hotels, and I had little to no pain in the morning. DH has been thinking about Saatva mattresses, but I'd love to hear what worked for you.
  6. Congratulations!! My fourth is 10 months and we can't imagine life without her. :-D
  7. I had considered both Hake and MCT (and could see her doing well with either), but in the end I showed her samples of both and let her choose. She chose Hake 6. We're two weeks in, and she seems to like it.
  8. We've registered with the district since we moved here in 2013. No problems so far, but my eldest is a 4th grader, so we haven't had to deal with testing yet.
  9. Mine is still sealed up in a box at my parents' house. I hope that one of my daughters will want to wear it one day.
  10. We did WWE3 and Fable for 3rd. This was our schedule: Mon - WWE Day 1 Tue - CAP (we divided each chapter into 3-4 sections and did one section twice a week) Wed - WWE Days 2 & 4 Thu - CAP Fri - WWE Day 3 You could easily cut out some dictation. (I think my DD benefited from the extra, so we kept it all.)
  11. We had hardwood in the kitchen in our last house, and I loved it. We have tile now, and it's cold, hard, and not any easier to clean because of the texture. And while wood will dent, there's a decent chance that a dropped plate or glass will survive.
  12. When we moved last year, we replaced the cheap seats with sturdier, soft close ones with built-in toddler seats. We don't plan to change these until they break or get badly stained.
  13. I was having trouble too. Go here: https://www.zaner-bloser.com/shop/product-line/Zaner-Bloser-Handwriting Ordering from this page worked for me.
  14. N/M -- Searched the archives again and found my answer! My rising fourth grader finished FLL4 this past year. She loves grammar and reads well, so I was thinking of moving her into Hake 6 this year (just the grammar -- she'll be using other things for writing). Level 6 looks like it introduces more things she hasn't had in FLL yet, so she's pushing for that one. I figure if I go with 6, and it's too tough for her, we can get 5. Are there any major things that she'd miss by going straight to 6? Thanks!!
  15. We don't have one. When we were house hunting, lack of HOA was a big plus for us!
