  1. I think it would be a bit much to add FIAR to everything you already have planned but as others have said FIAR includes art, geography, science, ect.. We are just finishing us our first year with FIAR and we had a great time. I have a 5 yr old also but only one 2 yr old. I have been very surprised how much the little one has been able to join in and can't wait to do "the book of the week" as we call it here. We don't do a new book every week. This gives us time to explore things that we wanted to know more about or catch up if we missed something. FIAR can be done very simply or you can add many things to it. I have found through the year that simpler has been better. As far as cost that depends if you can find the books at your local library or not. We bought some and the rest we have found at the library. I found some for next year for sale at the library for 50 cents. All that I have added to FIAR is OPGTTR, MEP math, and Explode the Code (Get ready, Get Set, and Go for the code). Hope that helps.

  2. Is anyone else having troubles with unzipping thier Math Mammoth download? I downloaded the program 7zip but it is not working. The file size is large enough and I am not getting a corrupt file message.

Also, I mistakenly downloaded jzip first. Don't put this program on your computer. It took me quite a while to get it off and everything back to normal.

  3. We did Before Fiar the summer before my daughter turned 5 and we both really loved it. My almost 2yr old really got into it too. I was able to check it out at our library to see exactly what it was and if it worked for us or not. Check your library and see if they have it. Many of the books used are very popular children's books so they should be easy to find at a decent size library. We already had many of them in our home collection. I added lapbooks for my daughter but she was able to cut and write on her own so it made it easy. I plan on starting it with my dd2 this summer but I won't do lapbooks, she is not ready yet.

  4. I am so sorry you are in this situation. I know you said you don't want to be one of those complaining parents but it may help to say something to the director or person in charge - not the teacher. I worked in preschool for 18 years and sometimes nothing would be done about a situation until a parent or two voiced thier concern. It could be that the teacher has asked for help and nothing is being done to help her or maybe the teacher is partly the issue. The last place I worked we were so limited by what we could do but if a parent complained, especially about a dangerous situation, more could be done. I hope you find a solution that works.

  5. I just did Top Secret with my dd5 and we had a great time. She is not reading very much yet so I had to read all of it to her but that was not a problem for me. You start with a 37 piece puzzle and then solve the games in book. My daughter was able to do some of the games and some I had to really help her with. She really liked it and begged to do it everyday until we finished it, however I do not plan to continue it at this time because I think she will get so much more out of it when she is 7 or older. She did learn some nice things from it and she notices all the time now when she hears anything about Greece or Greek. We got the first one for only shipping cost so it was nice to be able to check it out for such a low cost. Less than $4.

  6. I did Before FIAR last summer with my daughter and we both enjoyed it. We started doing FIAR vol 1 in Sept and we are still enjoying it but there are weeks that don't go as well as others. I thing the regular FIAR is different from the before but I don't know if it would be enough to meet your teaching style. I have had to make changes to make it work for us but I thing I would need to do that with any curriculum. My daughter does not like to hear the book five days in row. I know that is an important part but it is not worth the fights. Sometimes I feel like I am not doing enough but I find that later my daugher really is learning so much and about topics I would never of thought to cover.

I was able to buy some of the books at the beginning of the year any our local library has had most of the other ones. We have a very good library system. I was able to check out FIAR vol 1 from our library before I bought it, maybe it is available at your library.

I have not used the Bible Suplement.

Here is my blog if you are interested. http://stainstickrequired.blogspot.com/

    I hope this helps.

  7. I didn't hear about B4FIAR until my oldest was 4 but we did it last summer for fun and it worked great. My youngest was just under 2 at that time and was able to join in many of the activities. This last week we did The Snowy Day and she really loved it. She is almost 2 1/2 now. I was surprised how much she learned from it. I think it will work perfectly for what you are looking for. You can easily adapt it to what level your child it at. I was able to check out a copy from my library to see what it was like first.

  8. We have only started with B4FIAR and so far we are really enjoying it. It has been so easy to do this summer especially with all the other things we have going on (outdoor summer fun). My dd4 still talks about investigating dead trees to see what may be living in them and painted a dead tree last week on her outdoor scene painting. It all came from the Runaway Bunny. I didn't even notice the the tree that had fallen over in the picture but B4FIAR said to point it out to your child and discuss it. Now she wants to get a book from the library about tree diseases. We are starting FIAR vol 1 this fall and I can't wait.

  9. I am so glad to see this thread. I started B4Fiar this summer with my dd 4 and will be starting FIAR in Sept. So far we are really enjoying it. She will be 5 in Sept and we will add in some math and work on learning to read. We are both really excited and I plan on just adding extra stuff as she seems ready for it. Or course I have to remind myself of that everytime I read about something new that I am sure I just HAVE to have. Thanks for all of the positive stories. Oh and even my dd 1 has been enjoying the B4Fiar.
