  1. This has been so helpful, thanks for all the information. We're not in GA, but will be trying K12 for the first time this year. These are the exact questions I've been having. I don't know how we will do with all the requirements from the state, but we'll see.
  2. This is exactly what I was thinking. You could find one that would match the wood on your railings and it would almost blend in.
  3. It did take him a while to figure out he could use the cart as a toy, so you might have time to try it. You could also take the wheels off to deter him and then put them back on when he's lost interest. I ended up putting mine inside an old small wardrobe that we've converted into our storage for home school materials. It works great, but I'm not sure if you'd have room for something like it, but you can just put everything in, close the doors and be done (I did have to put a lock on it because of the same little boy getting into it and taking everything out). I guess, I should mention that your biggest challenge will probably be entertaining the little ones while you try to do some school (at least that was mine).:001_smile:
  4. This will be our second year Homeschooling and this is so helpful for me! Thanks so much! I think any first year homeschooler that is on this forum is already on the right track. There is so much support here. My only bit of advice, although I'm not a veteran, is to go easy on yourself and don't expect it to be perfect (ever) just do your best each day and it will get better with time. :) Good Luck!!
  5. I used a rolling cart last year (the plastic drawer kind) for supplies and it worked great, until...my then 18 m. old ds decided it would be a fun toy to push around and eventually topple over. So, whatever you get, specially if you have younger ones, make sure it is sturdy and maybe has breaks on the wheels.
  6. We used MBTP last year level 8-10 years for my 8 yr old dd who was identfied as gifted at public school. She is also a strong reader and loves hands on projects. This level was definitely challenging for her, particularly the writing portion. I had no idea how weak she was in writing, but the MBTP doesn't cover much language arts fundamentals. It provides opportunities for the children to write but very briefly covers any language arts or grammar. We loved the books and activities that went along with them, it is alot of work so we didn't do everything. The Science/SS curriculum that went along with the reading units were also very interesting. We didn't use RS math, because my dd is weak in math, so we used MUS. It is a good curriculum, but you might have to supplement grammar and writing because it doesn't cover it enough. We ended up only two units because we had to supplement so much. I hope this helps!:)
  7. I have a very smart dd who will be in 4th grade next year. She loves to read, write and draw, but her downfall is math. It just isn't her thing and at this point, she still doesn't know her math facts very well. Does anyone have any suggestions for a fun but effective way to learn Math facts? We've tried flash cards, practice, Math U See and she still doesn't have it down. I think math would be so much easier if she just knew her math facts. Thanks!
  8. Me too! I'll have a 4th, K and toddler (who is so busy and gets into so much trouble). It is going to be such a challenge because my toddler is used to play with the child who will be in K. He's going to be so bored. I think I'm just going to have to have some kind of special activity for him to do while we do school (playdoug, painting, blocks, etc.) and rotate so he doesn't get bored of it too quick. I know he'll play on his own for a while, but he'll need something as well every day. It will be interesting for sure!
  9. Oh, I'm so glad you asked this...my dd reads 3 hrs every day. That's a lot of school to count!
  10. I just realized this was a blog thread. I haven't updated my blog in months, but I will let you know as soon as I do. I'm hoping to do it soon. So much going on! You can still read it at hommelschooling.blogspot.com
  11. We spent the week readjusting from a long (but educational) trip which included DC. What a great place to visit for learning! I have to get my house organized before we start school again, so that will be our goal for the next couple of weeks.
  12. Thanks! I'm going to check it out!
  13. Is there a list like this for Curriculum names? What is HOD? I just read a thread and have no idea.
