  • Biography
I am the mother of 6 children ages 15,13,11,7,3,&2, We are in our 10th year of homeschooling.
  • Location
    Tucson
  1. 1: a clean kitchen 2: an hour or so with my coffee before anyone else wakes up 3: our morning trip to the park for exercise.....if not the little one have way too much energy and I need to get my blood flowing. 4: having the day planned out
  2. They have very specific interests in certain area's of history and are very knowledgeable about those eras. I am hoping to find something that fills in the gaps. They have studied early world history and then they skipped to the Victorian era (which they love and read about continually) I was hoping to find something that would at least give them an overview of the area's they missed. Like my signature says, I wish I would have found The well trained mind years ago.
  3. I was hoping to use it with my 10th graders. As a way to make sure that they had a least an over view of world history, making sure that we didn't skip anything. I haven't always done history the way I plan to do it now with the younger ones and I wanted something that gave a history over view in a year.
  4. I'm thinking about buying A Little history of the world by E.H. Gombrich. If anyone owns it could you please give me your thoughts on this book as well as what age you feel it would be suited for. Thanks
  5. My DH is a corrections officer for the local sheriff dept. and county Jail. He works in the tower which is a privileged pod, Not because the inmates have privileges but because they only allow certain officers to work that floor. It houses the inmates that due to the nature of their crime, the fact they they assault staff, or because they need to be in protective custody can not be house in general population. He basically makes sure that all their physical needs are met, gets them to any legal or medical apt. they may have etc. all while keeping them from hurting themselves, other inmates, or any staff including himself and the nurses who frequently have to hand out meds. and check on inmates. He as been assaulted 2 times in the last 3 mths. but that is part of his job and an inmate has never got the better of him yet. Thank GOD. He says that the worst part is that he feels like he is surrounded by evil all day. The inmates he deals with the most are ones who have been involved in pretty disturbing crimes.
  6. My husband has an irregular schedule also, What I did was instead of having Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday , I have is day 1, day 2, day 3, day 4, and day 5. Then regardless of DH's days off we still have 5 days of school scheduled every week. I then have the issue of irregular hours so we have just set it up that when DH walks out the door for work, we pull out the books for school. So no matter when DH works we have school 5 days a week for 5 hrs. a day. Right now we have Tuesday, Wednesday's off and do school between 2:30 and 7:30 pm.
  7. My oldest wanted to be a woman when she was little, an attainable goal ;) DD 2 wanted to be a duck:001_huh:. The rest had pretty reasonable goals but my niece wanted to be bread
  8. This too shall pass, everything is temporary slow down and enjoy the process instead of just struggling to get to the goal
  9. this is an issue I have been dealing with for years with my in-laws. I have had them come over to have coffee and sit through one of our lessons while giving the kids their opinion on the subject (FIL) or ask to borrow something, or I just wanted to see how you are doing, or can you watch the kids for a few min. etc. This year I have decided to make a nice little door hanger out of wood and paint it...then write School is in session, please come back later. The phone one is easy.....just don't answer the phone. I think the worst part is when everyone thinks because you are home you must have nothing to do so therefore could you give them a ride, pick up there kids, do them a favor. :glare::glare: oh and my answering machine use to say....."Hello you have reached the Jaure family, we are doing school right now, we usually finish around 4 o'clock so if you leave a message I will try to call you back after 4. Thank you"
  10. something similar happened to me a few weeks ago. I went online to reserve some books and saw a fine for not returning FLL and the well trained mind. I called and she said they didn't have them. I told here look I remember returning those books and here is why, I had them so full of sticky notes, that it took me forever to transfer all my little notes to a note book and remove all the stickies. I have since bought my own copies. She finally decided maybe I was telling the truth and went to check the shelves and sure enough there they were.
