  1. My daughter took Clover Valley Honors as a teacher led class.  She wound up switching to the regular version after a few weeks as it was a lot of work and she had a lot of other hard classes on her plate.  The teacher is amazing and it is one of my daughter's favorite classes to date.  I personally have no Chemistry background, so the parent led option would not have worked for me.

  2. Hi.  I wanted to share this with you all (hopefully it is allowed).  Please check out www.artinpajamas.wix.com/education

In the blog section, there are free mini art challenges that all ages can participate in.

    Have fun and stay safe!

  3. I am looking for a "get it done" history for my 10th grade STEM kid for next year.  She is taking rigorous math, science, and engineering classes next year so I can not have this subject take up a lot of time.  However, I need something strong enough for her transcript.  I would love something that combines a little reading on a topic along with the crash course US videos since she is such a visual learner.  I even found some worksheets to go along with the videos on teachers pay teachers.  Does anyone have any suggestions or is there anyone that has done this already so that I do not have to reinvent the wheel?  This year I bought a World History textbook and she read and did comprehension questions and tests and it has been very boring and difficult for her.  Thanks in advance.

  4. I purchased the Large size Frio bag off of Amazon.  It holds 2 Auvi-Q's and inhaler, and Benedryl tablets.  I put everything into a ziploc and then into the Frio. My daughter had it in her backpack during camp and it stayed cold for days.  She was on the beach surfing, on a boat in the middle of the ocean for 10 hours in the sun, etc.  I highly recommend it.

  5. I have been researching Biology all day today for my potential STEM kid that hates BIO and the thought of dissecting something makes her queasy.  But I told her that for highschool she has to do it once.  Her love is in physics, building, blowing things up, etc.  I am exhausted.  And the more that I look, I find more resources and it is making it more confusing.  I just came across a post that mentioned blue tent online honors bio and I already decided that I would be using the Holt Bio book for 9th grade Bio next year.  My search before the Blue Tent Online was to Oak Meadow in thinking that I would just do regular Bio with the Holt book and purchase their lab kit so that it wasn't all online labs.  So I hopped on over to their website to check it out.  My question is, can someone tell me honestly about the workload of the Blue Tent Honors online class?  Also, would I need to purchase the book on top of the tuition $ and the lab $?  Is there anyone that has taken this class that can review it?  Pros/Cons?  Anyone use the Oak Meadow one independently?  Thoughts?   Thanks in advance for the help.  I really need to go clear my mind now.

  6. Thank you for all of the replies.  I think after reading everything, I am going to go with Exploration Education(since dd loves building stuff) with Conceptual Physics as a spine for this year and then look for something math based for highschool.  I think I was thinking that all along but just needed the push.

Regentrude, is there anything that you recommend for high school so I can start looking at it now?

    Thanks again!

  7. So I personally think that my dd will wind up in engineering or something in science for a career.  So for this coming year (7th grade) versus high school for physics I have a decision to make......

Do I do a year of physics for 7th grade using all TOPS physics books and then use Exploration Education Advanced with Conceptual Physics textbook for high school for physics with a lab for credit?  OR do I just do Exploration Education Advanced along with Conceptual Physics text this year and find something stronger for high school?  I guess I am worried that if she winds up a science major in college, that Exploration Education may not be strong enough for the transcript, but maybe I do not know enough about it?

Please help!!!  I am so confused.  Thanks!

  8. I have been using Earth Holt Science and Technology this year and have really liked it.  I purchased the student and teacher textbook.  DD reads the chapter ( and I read along with her in the teacher book), and I have her answer all of the comprehension questions in the book.  There is also a lab at the end of the book for each chapter and sometimes even mini labs built into each chapter that are less than 5 minutes long.  The labs at the end require some prep on supplies, but have been fun (even though we haven't done them all). There is also an online component with videos for each section.

    HTH!

  9. For those of you who have or are using this book with or without another program, which copyright/version of the book did you use(or what was the photo on the cover)?  I looked briefly and see that there are many versions out there.  I am planning on using it with Exploring Education for my physics program next year.  Thanks in advance.
