Hi-
I'm a newbie here and am a bit overwhelmed by all of the options. In brief...
-We are Catholic (but I don't need our work saturated in religion since I'm planning to do a Bible and/or character study at the start of each day...)
-My ds, 9, 3rd grade, is dyslexic- He's reading well now, but his spelling and writing look like a first grader's. He loves science.
-My dd, 7, 2nd grade, is artsy and social. She looses interest in things quickly.
-This summer I've been doing a mini-school (handwriting, math, a unit on oceans, and spelling sight words.) I've found that I stick to the "workbook" type work the best. The ocean unit, which I was going to do a lapbook for, has pretty much been a disaster. In short, I want something that is easy to plan and that the kids can work somewhat independently on, at least for some of the material. Oh, and money, of course, is an object. ;)
So these are my ideas so far....
Math- Saxon 5/4 for ds. Dd needs something colorful (she's been working on a Tinker Bell workbook and enjoys it well enough)... recommendations?
Writing- Thinking WWE. (Not sure what levels?)
Reading- McGuffey's Revised. (Surprised they're not mentioned more on this site.)
Language- FLL. (I figure I'll just start from the beginning with both, even if ds is sort of bored...)
Spelling- Beyond Phonics: Word Pattern Stories (Anyone with experience with this?)
Science- Princeton Hall (It's for a middle level, but the grade level stuff wouldn't be engaging for ds, and my summer unit study turned out to be a bit of a bust...)
History- Mystery of History, vol 1
Music- Learn a recorder? Listen to classics? Any recommendations here?
Art- Not sure...
Health- ?
Character building- ?
Thanks for any suggestions... :001_smile:
