  1. For future reference, you could see if your local DMV issues non-driver ID cards. Many do, and in some places you can get them the same day (assuming you bring the appropriate documentation with you to start). The only time we've flown with ID for the children has been when we went overseas - we had to have passports for everyone then. We do NOT fly with their passports when we fly domestically. FWIW, the TSA agents seem to make small talk with the kids when we're at the podium showing ID. That might be just polite conversation, or it might be a way to make sure the children aren't being "taken." They ask how old the boys are, where they're going, etc. It's been very relaxed, and I opted to not read much into it. They haven't pressured my nervous kid to talk (maybe because his brother will talk to anyone about anything? who knows). They do ask who is who as they're looking at the tickets, and I usually answer, but soemtimes the boys will chime in.
  2. Is there any remote chance she's actually calling about something important? Do you have siblings who might be injured or seriously ill? Will you care if your mother becomes seriously ill and the only way you find out is from an obituary? If you have other ways of getting that information (if you care to have it), then I agree, ignore her. If not, I'd set something up to get that information. You could always choose to reply to her email with something terse and then create a folder in your email program that automatically sorts her messages there. Then they're out of your main list and you can view them (or not) as you see fit. Or you can ask Wolf to check it monthly or something.
  3. And the LDS church doesn't have a belief in transubstantiation, correct? I think that's just Roman Catholics and Eastern Orthodox. I agree that the specific "bread" is less important than the intent. I'm no cheerleader for the LDS church (i'm an agnostic with atheistic leanings), but I would respectfully ask that the discussion stay on topic. ANd "on topic" is not detailing how the LDS church is demonic. "Let he who is without sin..." and all that.
  4. I learned it during confirmation classes. Apparently Welch's used to advertise in the back of the book of doctrine (I know there's a more correct name, but apparently I can remember the grape juice information better than the actual Methodist books :P ). I saw water being used as the sacramental beverage in episodes of Big Love (I know, I know - we don't need to follow the rabbit trail of Big Love vs. FLDS vs. LDS), and wondered if it was strictly FLDS or if LDS used that as well. Can churches use another liquid? What do you use for the "bread"? I've had ministers who used everything from crusty french bread to communion wafers (ugh) to pita bread and matzo (which some consider more historically accurate). But always, always grape juice :) eta: http://archives.umc.org/interior.asp?ptid=1&mid=1339 The United Methodist Book of Worship is the book, and that link has a quick answer about using grape juice.
  5. Yes, that quote would've helped. ANd I understand that you said you're done, but are you implying (or stating plainly) that the LDS church is a demonic enterprise? Or just stating that in general that a group could say that they consider Jesus of Nazareth their Lord and Savior and yet be a demonic enterprise? ~amey (not LDS)
  6. So.... where are you going with that? Back to the "Ask a Mormon" bit: what liquid do you use for communion? I know wine is off the table (ha!). I grew up United Methodist and we used grape juice (Welch's was the "official" grape juice for a long time, because it was supposed to not ferment - fun facts about Welch and the Methodists: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_Bramwell_Welch). Do you use grape juice?
  7. Yes. https://cms.paypal.com/us/cgi-bin/?cmd=_render-content&content_ID=security/seller_protection_faq - there's information about seller protection and about shipping to other addresses. This is why many people will ONLY ship to the address in the paypal statement.
  8. Files mikvah report immediately. Sends letter to Mayim Bialik, because she'll know what to do with it. That said, I found the information on the pre-Mikvah preparations interesting.
  9. You need to explore a male version of the mikvah. That might allow you your longer soak. ~amey (lurking on the thread ;) )
  10. The Ataris did. As remakes go, it's not awful, really. They kept the same tune, etc.
  11. I can handle that, but not the remake of "Boys of Summer." Why is there a Black Flag sticker on my Cadillac?
  12. I have no calling to adopt and don't have close friends who have adopted. Just my disclaimer ;) I am SURE that adoption agencies show the best airport and homecoming scenes they can. IT just makes marketing sense. Maybe that's a pessimistic way to look at it, but you will get more families interested in adoption if the videos are full of smiling, loving families than if you show videos of families coping with 2 hour rages and property destruction. Which would make YOU more likely to consider adoption? Would you be more likely to use the window cleaner sold by the smiling woman with the sparkly windows or the harried housewife with muddy floors and one clean window being approached by a toddler coated in chocolate pudding? Well, the latter might, just for the comic effect....
  13. I found a list of "Free things to do on the strip" when DH and I went last year. The fountains at the Bellagio are really cool, and there is a gorgeous conservatory inside the Bellagio. Many of the casino hotels have something inside as a draw ;) Don't be surprised if you spot tour groups moving thru some of them.
  14. I'm not a Catholic and I don't play one on on the internet, but I have to say the difference between what is Doctrine and what is Discipline (and/or Ecclesiastical Law??) is confusing. I thought the celibacy of priests was Doctrine, but it's not. I was looking up the whole Infant Limbo thing, and the wikipedia article (i know, i know...) was both clear and mildly confusing.
  15. Maybe a little of both? It's what I thought of when someone posted about Onan. Her point (I think) was that, well, "every sperm is sacred" :tongue_smilie: according to the Bible, because God killed Onan for spilling his seed. If you're going to use that as your basis to not waste sperm, then you also need to be careful about heckling bald people, because, apparently, you could be attacked by bears. NOW, I don't seriously think that the Previous Poster thinks that God will KILL YOU (like Onan) for wasting sperm, and it's quite possible she was also joking in her posting. So maybe I was adding a little bit of levity? I was definitely going for humor when I made the "causation or correlation" comment.
  16. Perhaps. It also tells the story of some youths mocking a bald man who then cursed them in the name of the Lord. Then 2 bears showed up and mauled 42 of the youths. Now, that might be correlation rather than causation, but one must be cautious either way.
  17. Onan. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Onan
  18. I think she had to miss the finals because she was sent home with the pink hair. Because she was sent home, she wasn't in school when the exams were given. That's just my interpretation of the OP.
  19. if you're flying between airports that Southwest serves, you can sign up for their "Bing!" service that lets you know when there are sales at those airports.
  20. I keep meaning to get the gaskets to make some of these: http://www.creativecarissa.com/2011/04/reduce-reuse-recycle-diy-glass-straw.html Of course, drinking from a metal straw might not be good if you don't like drinking from a metal water bottle, but you could try it. I think I'd make some felted sleeves for the outside to help protect them.
  21. You wouldn't do anything differently with the straights, but the stitches might be more smooshed. There's a limit to how many you can fit on a straight needle (circular needles, too, but since you can get 60" long circulars, while the longest straight needle I've ever seen is 14", well, clearly the circular can hold more). I only use circular needles because they make crappy swords or lightsabers  To the previous poster who said that crochet was easier, well, I beg to differ ;) I feel like I'm made of thumbs when I crochet.
  22. That's what I've done at my kids birthday parties the past several years - big jug of lemonade or you can get water from the fridge dispenser. Oh, and we sometimes have some of DH's homebrew or margarita makings. The kids sometimes ask if there's soda or juice boxes, but I can't stand the waste they make, so I don't buy them anymore. Oh wait - I did buy some 2L bottles of seltzer so the kids could have fizzy lemonade if they wanted ;) I wouldn't have soda out that no one could drink, though. As a follow-up: will your soda drinking relatives ASK if you have soda? Will you lie to them if they ask? :bigear:
  23. Not skinny, but I like the stuffed chicken tortillas. I also like the asian chicken salad. There is a skinny version of that which very much interests me, but I want to know how they made it "skinny." If the portion is smaller, or uses fewer of the wanton things, I'm all over it. If they've used artificial sweetener, I'll have to skip it.
  24. Well, there is the story of Abby who wanted a horse so bad ("I'll DIE if I don't get a horse!" or similar) and her parents don't get one for her and she dies! at the end of the poem. Uncle SHelby's ABZ Book is a bit racier. I know there's something in there about "I is for INK. Do you know what rhymes with Ink? Drink. Guess what you should do with Ink?" (I used quotes, but I'm certain that's not a direct quote). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Uncle_Shelby's_ABZ_Book http://www.tabletmag.com/jewish-arts-and-culture/books/16983/bomb-the-ban - this has some information on Silverstein's work being challenged.
  25. We have some great pictures of my dad (as an adult) with one of my mom's cousins who'd come over from England. Dad worked for a pharmaceutical company, so he "borrowed" two of the dry suits from the lab (to keep the workers contamination free or something). They wore those on the Maid of the Mist and kept their clothes mostly dry ;)
