  1. Hi, I am homeschooling my two youngest kids and I have two of my grandchildren placed with me through children's services. We don't have custody yet, wish we did. Maybe we will by the time they are old enough for school. Anyway, homeschooling is a committment, and some days are hard but most days are great. If you have a sincere interest in spending time with your granddaughter and working with her, then it should be a wonderful experience for you both. I have a six year old first grader, and we spend about 2 to 4 hours a day on school-related things, with snacks and breaks. My kids hate workbooks, so we play math games, do copywork, read stories, write stories, memorize songs and poems, and practice speaking latin with each other, which has been a blast. She made an entire 'ancient city' out of homemade play dough the other day, on her own, because she wanted to. Needless to say, we are reading Story of the World, book one this year. You don't need to worry about needing any special training to homeschool. You can find all kinds of curriculum recommendations on this forum, and decide which you might like to try. You need to find out the homeschool laws for your state to find out what if any requirements you need to meet. Take her to the library, check out some homeschooling books for yourself and take a look at what kind of resources your library has. Our library, a small library in a small town, had TWO beginning latin language programs available, plus other items like a microscope and all kinds of unit studies. To get you even more fired up to homeschool, follow this link to John Taylor Gatto's book 'The Underground History of American Education' which is available free to read in its entirety on the web http://www.johntaylorgatto.com/underground/index.htm Best wishes
  2. I have the absolute best method of all: seven year old daughter who wants to learn how to cook. I have taught her how to make oatmeal, and she carries this duty out every morning with diligence. She can't seem to master the coffee thing, however.........more work is needed!
  3. Hi, I am in Crawford County and looking for others homeschooling around here. We are too far from Pittsburgh to get down there very often, and Erie is a long drive also. Judy
