  1. Lynn Canyon is a provincial park, so it's always been free. I haven't been in a few years, and it's possible they've instituted a small charge or a parking charge. Even if they have, it will be much, much cheaper than Capilano. I like it better--and not just because it's free!
  2. I was all set to say sure, I'd eat it, and then I realized that you said FEBRUARY 29. If it were March 29, I'd eat it without a second thought, but I'm glad you tossed it!
  3. I'd probably call and double check the time and then show up about 10 minutes early. I've never seen a pile of forms large enough that I couldn't get through it in ten minutes. I get that doctors' offices want patients there early so they're not trying to work late patients in, but my time is valuable too.
  4. I read the title of this post and immediately got worried. I go out with wet hair all the time (curly hair issues), and I almost didn't open this post for fear of reading a bunch of comments about how uncouth it is to have wet hair in public. I'm glad that apparently I'm not offending many people as I go about my mornings!
  5. We've had that problem a few times. Do you have more than one wireless network available? They have to be on the same one, so check that they are. That turned out to be the problem at our house once. With DS's old computer, he had to manually turn the firewall off before opening it to LAN, or it wouldn't work. I'm sure that more tech-savvy types could have figured out how to change the settings, but we're not those people. He stuck a post-it note on the side of the monitor to remind him to turn it back on after each session. And, ditto to what someone said upthread about being sure that they're both trying to play on the same version number and/or snapshot.
  6. All of these and more a thousand times over. This girl does not need a therapist, Christian or otherwise. At this point, she almost certainly needs inpatient treatment to keep her from dying. Anorexics DIE at a rate that would horrify us for any other disease, and her family sounds as if they are doing everything possible to make it worse. Please do something now. Please, please don't wait. How would you feel if she were to collapse from cardiac arrest and you hadn't called CPS? I am terrified after having read your posts about this girl. Her "therapist" advised counting calories? For an anorexic at a dangerously low body weight???? Her parents criticize her appearance? Those two things coupled with her weight that is in the range where death or permanent and severe damage can easily happen at any point time means that girl needs intensive, qualified help NOW.
  7. Head out and try on some dresses. Loft is a great place to start. My real advice is to try on a whole bunch of clothing, and talk to the sales associates about fit. If the clerk suggests a smaller size, try it. There's a lot less room between smaller sizes than larger sizes, and 1/2 or 1" difference in garment circumference can make a huge difference in how a garment fits. I've noticed that a lot of people who've lost a fair amount of weight buy and wear new clothing that is too big for them. I think that when they were heavier they may have gotten used to hiding their bodies as much as possible, but once they've lost weight, continuing to do that just looks like they're wearing someone else's clothing.
  8. I lost a bunch of weight a few years ago, and I ultimately migrated back to my old (thin days) eating style of coffee for breakfast and then most of my eating in a 7-hour window. To further break that down, I'd usually eat one "real" meal a day (about 600-800 calories) and a very light other meal. Both of my meals were lunch or dinner because I have always found that if I eat breakfast, I am hungrier all day long. It's not a small difference for me either. If I don't eat breakfast, I'm not super hungry all day. If I do, I'm ravenous, all day long. The days I eat breakfast are the days I want a big lunch and a big dinner and lots of snacks, so clearly that path does not lead to weight loss or even maintenance for me!
  9. Yes, shoes off at the door. If you're going to let people traipse through the house in shoes that went through mud, you're going to have mud on your floors, end of story. There is no way to get kids (or even most husbands) to clean their muddy shoes well enough at the door to not track mud through the house. It's just not possible. Those shoes have to come off.
  10. I'm starting to feel like a total freak here. If the dishwasher is full of clean dishes, I unload it, and then put the dirty dishes in. Usually I unload the dishwasher while making coffee in the morning. The rule in our house is dirty dishes get scraped or rinsed if necessary and then go straight into the dishwasher without being set down on any other surface. If the dishwasher is running, I hand wash whatever else there is right then, and then dry it and put it away. I can not stand dirty dishes in the sink or on the counter, and I try really hard to avoid it. I pretty much never leave things to soak for more than a few minutes. Yep, I'm a freak.
  11. We tried going without traffic and ended up getting it back. We live in a big city, and I really prefer to be able to just zoom out and glance at the screen to get an overview of traffic on my whole route as I'm driving. I couldn't check it with the phone while driving, and seeing red traffic ahead will sometimes lead me to change my route.
  12. Honestly, I now only take a European USB hub because the only things I charge use USB plugs. I have this one, and it's never had a problem. Also, remember there are plug adapters and voltage converters. It's important to know the difference. The plug adapters do not convert the higher European voltage into the lower US one, so they can only be used with things that run on 220 or 110 (it will say on the plug/tag). Usually that's things like electric shavers, phones, and computers. You always need to check that what you're plugging into a plug adapter can handle 220V. Voltage converters actually change the voltage down to the North American standard 110. They are much larger and heavier than the plug adapters. They're useful if you need to take a hair dryer or other small appliance that can't run on 220.
  13. Yes, there are packages that don't include everything. However, last time I renewed ours, you were restricted to set packages, so I had to pass over some of my favorites if I didn't want to pay for the "everything" package. Also, I don't know if your car came with a nav system, but if you want Sirius traffic, you have to subscribe to that separately (it does not come as part of the "everything" package). You can look up all of the options online, but their website is a bit clunky.
  14. This, except I'm not Australian. I do live in the States, but it's definitely not the bible belt. It would never have occurred to me that anyone would find it odd to have a kids' party at 10:30 on Sunday morning. However, if I lived in Kentucky, I'd probably be aware that the prevailing attitude there is church. We've always had alcohol at kids' birthday parties, both the ones we've hosted and the ones we've attended. I don't think we've ever been to one at someone's home where alcohol wasn't served, and I think it would be a bit odd to not serve alcohol if the parents are attending!
  15. This may be unpopular, but here goes. I know you said you're at a healthy weight, but if you're on the upper half of your height's healthy range and don't have a large frame and lots of muscle, you might get some benefit from losing a little bit anyway, especially if you put weight on your midsection. A quick google search pulled up lots of references to the effects of weight and blood pressure. If you're already on the lower end of your healthy range, then that's obviously not going to be something you could do, but I thought I'd mention it because I know that when I lost weight from the top part of my height's healthy range to the bottom part, my blood pressure dropped by about ten points.
  16. Contact them via their "chat now" feature on their site. Do it online, typed. That way they have a record of what you actually said. They will email you a transcript of the chat afterward, as long as you tick yes at the end of the chat. Do it NOW since the first rep you spoke with misunderstood the situation. Be sure to mention that as well. If the new, "chat now" rep doesn't seem to understand, ask for a supervisor.
  17. I get some of mine (28 band) from Amazon. If I'm trying a style/brand I don't know, I make sure that it says "free returns" next to the price, and then I make sure to send it back on time if it doesn't work.
  18. Yeah, I thought my 32Bs fit just fine too. Turns out 28E is WAY better. Once I actually did the scoop thing to get all my breast tissue into the cups and realized the underwires on the sides should basically be under my arms, the much larger cup size fit perfectly. I look much, much better in clothing now!
  19. Me too! 32B to 28E. I no longer look saggy and frumpy. It completely changed my look! They do, but I can't find any at the cheaper retailers. Nordstrom goes down to 30 now, and specialty stores often carry 28s. I get most of my bras off of Amazon or from my local boutique. Bra manufacturers really seem to be lagging overall with the best options for 28s coming from the UK manufacturers. I don't know what women who need 26s do!
  20. Thank you for this! It sounds great, and I just ordered it. I'm always looking for games that work well with just two players.
  21. Ah. I have the complete opposite problem!
  22. What's your waist - hip difference? Loft's curvy cuts are sized for about a 12" difference, and so are Gap's Resolution style. Old Navy has some with that difference too. I've heard that Talbot's has an even more extreme difference, but I don't know personally. What do all of you who hate skinnies wear in the winter? I live in super skinny jeans in the winter because they're wonderful for tucking into boots, which are pretty much all I wear from mid-October until February or March.
  23. In my opinion, that definitively crosses the line into abusive. No question about it. Usually if I find myself saying that I need to check with DH, it's because I don't really want to buy whatever it is. I wouldn't say that for an Ebay purchase, so I don't know what that's about. You'd think they'd check before contacting you if they felt they needed to check. I wouldn't typically check with DH unless it was something that I thought he might have a strong opinion on which type of item to get, or if it were a large purchase.
  24. I went with an upright for exactly this reason. I'm not opening it every day, hence I don't need to trap the cold air in a chest freezer. I'm short, so I didn't want to have to try to reach the bottom. I had this image of me stuck upside down in the freezer with my legs waving around in the air! I also have hands that get very cold and painful very quickly, so I figured it would be better to not have to spend extra time pawing through a chest freezer to find what I need.
  25. This, exactly. I still get stuff in one or two days if it's being delivered by any carrier other than the USPS. The USPS times seem a little squishier, and I absolutely can't count on those items arriving on the date Amazon scheduled. About 90% of the time USPS items are on time, but 10% is a pretty significant rate of not-on-time packages, in my opinion. I'm really hoping that the Amazon contract will cause USPS to up their game and reliability.
