  1. I'm enjoying this thread! This will be our second time through CC's Cycle 2. My oldest is moving on to Challenge A & self paced Omni 1. My other two will be in 5th and 2nd. The last time we did this cycle, I paired it with SL's Core C. We also placed all of our history sentences in our SL "Book of Time". It was a great match for us that year as my girls were in 1st & 3rd grades. This time, we are using the VP MARR with my older navigating and brother tagging along. I love Sonlight, and this next year will be our first without a Core, but their next pass through this time period is too advanced. I am also excited to see the VP take on MARR since I have loved their OTAE with my youngest this year. They manage to explain amazingly deep biblical understanding to young students in a way that relates to them. A group of parents did a Wisdom & Righteousness Cycle 1 lap book with the younger siblings of Essentials students this past year. They are beautiful and very well done. It was a bit beyond my 1st grader's interest level as the year went on, but might work better for a 3rd grader. I tutor Essentials, so was not in the room when they worked on them. I also ordered the "Everything...History" book since I have enjoyed the science one this year. I'm reading the posts on Halfahundredacrewood as well. There are so many great options. The hard job is forcing myself not to try to incorporate every good program or idea!
  2. We are doing OTAE with CC and it is working very well. They just know two timeline songs. Many other families in our CC community are doing both as well.
  3. ALEKS and Life of Fred: DD has been doing fine with math, we've been using TeachingTextbooks, but I think she needs more. Not willing to drop TT, again, because she's an audio learner and the audio-visual on TT textbooks is fantastic. Math exam results have been average, but I'd like to see them higher. Looking forward to adding some meat to our mathtime with these two programs as supplements. I'm not sure if I used the quote feature correctly, but my rising 4th grader is supplementing Singapore 4 with LOF and ALEKS as well. I love the way we can approach the same subject in a variety of ways. -Ali
  4. I've been doing too much reading and not enough writing it seems! Welcome :) -Ali
  5. Thanks for this, I was just wondering how the levels worked! Ali
  6. I used ST Math (Spatial Temporal) online with my ds5, dd8, and dd10 this past year. It uses graphics to explain concepts without words. It's hard to explain, but my kids loved it and made great progress as well. It features Jiji the penguin who doesn't talk, but visually demonstrates the concepts. Blessings, Ali
  7. I love Sonlight. I can't imagine homeschooling without it. We have done cores pk through D (currently). I don't love the changes. The numbers to letters threw me for a mental loop last year! I use Essentials & IEW for LA so I dislike the idea of them being included. We did use them for Core B and part of C, but I don't plan to use their LA in the future. That said, I still need to watch Sarita's video, and I will continue to use their cores. My biggest decision for fall will be whether to skip E and go straight to F so my 6th grader doesn't miss it.
  8. We are using Singapore 5 and Khan Academy for 5th grade right now. I have been tempted by Saxon and TT because of the video component, but DD is a math whiz and I don't want to lose her. Does anyone know if Singapore 6 includes pre-algebra? Has anyone had success using Khan Academy alone without a text? I know he is adding videos of the Singapore lessons, but so far is on grade 3.
  9. I bought Core 1 complete from SL and loved the convenience. This year we decided to do Classical Conversations with Core 2 and I needed to conserve some curriculum $. Next year I plan to buy the entire core 3 from SL or used. We have a great library, but it's still a hassle to have to think ahead, reserve books and wait if someone else is using them when we need them. I don't like to get off track!!
  10. It looks like you've figured out a plan that works, but thought I'd mention what's working for us. My girls are doing the CA Standards edition Singapore plus Aleks online. We all love that the books are consumable into the upper grades and then Aleks only requires writing on scratch paper when needed. I thought about looking into TT to eliminate more writing, but after reading here I can tell that the repetition would kill them! I love that you've intentionally created a positive math culture in your home :). We all love math, but love reading even more, so math loses out on some of the fun things we could do! Ali
