Perfect timing for the tile question! I was just ordering and was going back and forth on an extra set of tiles... Don't feel like wasting more money.

If a child is doing Algebra I in 8th gr
Jennifer in NH replied to Linda1951's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
Algebra II, Geometry, trigonometry, calculus, that is what I did in High school, DH too. That is a fairly normal math schedual for high school, or it was when i went to school. ETA: my degree is in science, and DH's is in engineering so we might fall into the math geek category, but there were many others in our classes so we were not one of just a few. -
My DD would have a huge problem then! Because I believe in modesty our kids all wear rash guards. it is the same materials as the shorts, and my DD doesn't have anything else to wear.. Personally, I would call the park. Maybe the bikini top of the girls shouldn't be allowed either, those strings might get caught in the ride.etc..:glare:.

Hanna Anderson fan here too! Leggings and bike shorts in fun or matching colors under all my 9 year old's dresses and she is in dresses 80% of the time.

S/O American Idol, a vent
Jennifer in NH replied to Quiver0f10's topic in General Education Discussion Board
The bikini was half way through. That is when i got home and turned it on...at the tail end of that. My kids went to bed, and i mostly listened and didn't watch..I'm grateful for that!:001_smile: -
I think quite a few on this board would object to that. I've been in plenty of heated "discussions" with quite a few people of a more liberal persuassion. ;):D If most of them are staying clear of this thread, well, good for them for not gloating on what in some ways seems to be a gripe fest of what is wrong with this country under democrats. I didn't expect Liberals to leave this country during a republican administration and i certainly don't expect conservatives to leave. Stay and work to get the Democrats out of power in 2010 and 2012...Why leave at the first sign of trouble...run for office yourself or convince DH to.... and that is my 2 cents. I am going to post and run because I have more packing to do for our annual 3 month vacation. I'll see you all in September as the song goes.:auto:

American Idol: Spoiler
Jennifer in NH replied to OrganicAnn's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:iagree:That's about how I feel. Adam is way too hard rock for me...I'd buy an album from Kris. -
Rainbow is or at least WAS Masonic. I come from a long line of mason/shriners/eastern star . Girls were in rainbow and boys were in Demolay. it had nothing to do with Odd Fellows. I had to get my uncles and my grandmother (Masons and Eastern Star) to sponsor me. It really is part of the Masonic order. I have actually never heard of Job's daughters, maybe there are regional differences and the names are just different??? No idea on that one... Now, after saying that....I am now Catholic and would never let my daughter join Rainbow...I do remember those meetings as if they were yesterday...it was 35 years ago...

Honestly, the only reason my children would go to a VBS would be to learn more about the Bible. I agree if it is fun/socialization and crafts you are looking for, then a day camp would be much better.

I would not send my children there, but for a different reason. The VBS that my parish offers can only handle X many kids. So, if your children are there to socialize, then there may be Christian children who do not get to go. Just thought I'd put that out there.

fwiw; my favorite time as a teen was exploring in the woods and doing things like that, by myself...I did go to ps, but in the summer we went away so i was not around my friends...I loved having no schedual. I'm sorry your mom is so manipulative. Stay strong and remeber what happened to you just about at that age...socialization is not the be all and end all. and what if it is with the 'wrong' type of people?

If only we still had rep...tears are flowing out of my eyes with laughter over this.:lol:

:iagree:perfectly stated! We take plenty of time off. We also school year round. Honestly, I never worry much about missing a week here or there. it all gets done. My children are above grade level in most, but not all subjects. What is grade level work for a 2nd or 3rd grader in Latin anyway? I am not educating my children to be at or above X grade level. I want them to be competent adults who can and hopefully will have a vast expanse of knowledge inside their minds that they can use at the drop of a hat. I certainly don't need to be regulated any more than I am. FWIW: we have been sick (the whole family) for the last 5 days or so. No school..Today, still too sick to go to Mass, but we did some school. It didn't make up for an entire missed week, but it was something. We just have to adjust the next few weeks and add in a bit here and a bit there...they will be fine. They have already finished their "grade level" for this year anyway.

Male babysitters -- yes or no?
Jennifer in NH replied to msjones's topic in General Education Discussion Board
I'll chime in: NO and NO. I was molested as a young girl and it was not done by a female. My Mother was molested by her own brother. My Mother babysits our children maybe once a year and the same is ture of my MIL. I would let my kids alone with their grandfather and that is it. I could care less whose feelings get hurt by excluding the entire male sex, my kids will not go through what I went through. Not if I can help it! My DH feels the same way. I think I would be irresponsible to put my children in potential danger. as for potential mates for my daughter...that is a totallly different kettle of fish. as a young one being babysat, she has no control over the situation. as a young lady looking for a husband, she has control and is much older. and as for why my sons won't babysit...well, although as their mom I sure don't think they are pedifiles (they are 6 and 3 right now)...I wouldn't want them accused of anything. -
Unscientific Poll
Jennifer in NH replied to Riverfront Headmistress's topic in General Education Discussion Board
USA I turn it on, then off and then on again. so does DH, but we both are from new England. I think we started doing that when we had a lousy hot water heater. Now, it seems to be habit. -
I am so sorry, what jerks! My ILs don't seem too bad now...but I find this story rather funny...I am over being mad. At our wedding, MIL got all her kids together (daughters were our flower girls) and had our wedding photgrapher take a family photo...She made sure it was just her family....Dh, MIL, FIL and DH's sisters...not me.... That photo hangs in their living room. About 10 years later they asked for a wedding picture of DH and me. We haven't "found" one yet. I have no intention of ever finding one.

I would say something! When I was little, our neighbor used to plant roses and shrubs on our side of the property line. My parents mentioned it to them, the plants stayed...my Dad mowed them down....flat. That neighbor did this again a few years later..this time my father just got out the lawn mower right away.... They moved shortly after that. My parents felt it was very encroaching. They (the neighbors) had a large yard too! Good luck, I hate these type of situations.

Guess who just rang my doorbell
Jennifer in NH replied to Mom2legomaniacs's topic in General Education Discussion Board
:lol: That is too funny! I do eat meat, but I love veggies done on the grill! we had the guys with meat in their truck come here last summer...a month or so after this thread started..same exact lines...I really couldn't believe it! We did not buy any... I told them we eat grass fed or what we hunt. then I shut the door. I'm going to be chuckling about the barbeque all day...thanks. -
Thank you all very much, I have more to go on now!

Do you buy special lefty supplies?
Jennifer in NH replied to Melinda S in TX's topic in K-8 Curriculum Board
I'm left handed and so is DH. I use right handed scissors because that is what I grew up with. I am now no longer comfortable cutting with my left hand. I never bought myself special notebooks, but used to use them backwards. Then a friend mentioned the ones that flip over from the top. My kids are all righties. I don't see the sense in a few things, how can a ruler be lefty? personally, I would buy the child lefty scissors and some lefty notebooks or flip from the top notebooks.
