  1. This is her first time voting and I think she was (is) a little emotional about it. She lives with 5 other "newbie" voters and they have had quite a few interesting talks about the candidates and issues. She decided the privacy issue wasn't as important to her as are her convictions about the platform of the candidate she is voting for. The assignment made her think about what's really important to her personally and not so much about what the media and other people are trying to persuade her to think. She did alot more research re: the candidates/issues and I know she's very excited to vote now that she feels more informed and secure in her own decision! Thanks for all the input!
  2. for and why. She wants to do the assignment and get a good grade, but she would also like to write that she feels voting is a private matter and not something she has to defend to her English prof! Does any one have any thoughts on how she could address this? Is there any law that says voting is private or is it just a courtesy? Any input would be appreciated! ~Gail
  3. (Grades 3 - 12) for my 8th grader. They present the 50 states in the order of statehood. They also have Fifty States Under God For Young Learners (Age 3 - Grade 3). We used State History from a Christian Perspective by the same publisher for grades 3 - 12 when she was a 4th grader and we liked the material alot - simple and interesting and all planned out. We used it along with the ABeka My State Notebook. http://www.statehistory.net/fifty_states HTH, Gail
  4. from the many ideas you all gave me. I might start with Around the World in 180 Days as my guide to studying the 7 continents (geography, cultures, etc). They recommend The Voice of the Martyrs and looking at their website, my daughter really liked the Courage Kids Bold Believers activity books. We will use several for Asia, South America and Europe. I can't decide whether to use them for Africa or use the GEODEO Journey to Africa self-study resources. Has anyone used it? I also found Hands of a Child lapbook project packs that I'm thinking of using for variety. They have them for all 7 continents and even have one on missionaries! I may even use them as the starting point instead of AW180D. Anyone use them? MFW ECC, Sonlight 5, Los Banos unit study, and WP CAW all have so many wonderful resources! I will probably grab a little here and alittle there! Material World and Hungry Planet also look great! We will also definitely use YWAM materials. Thanks so much everyone for all your help!
  5. Which pre-algebra set did you purchase? The Traditional Set, the Value Set with Books or the Value Set with CDs? Just wondering which one I should buy?
  6. Wow, what great ideas! Thank you so much! Have you ever heard or used Around the World in 180 Days? I was wondering if that would be a good guide to build around.
  7. My 8th grade dd wants to study world cultures (she just got back from a missions trip, so I think she's hyped by that and I want to encourage her interest). We are already planning on doing American history, so I don't want to do a full curriculum like SL 5. I was thinking of doing one continent a month and studying the people, land, etc. Any suggestions?
  8. Which is the best Chalkdust Pre-algebra set to buy... the traditional set, the value set with books, or the value set with CD's? The $100+ difference in price makes me nervous I'm missing something if I don't order the traditional set, yet I don't know that we need to have the color text. Opinions, please!
