  1. Toss, toss. I can SO relate to your feelings. I procrastinate because I think things like, "Well, I want to go through the girls' clothes, but I don't know if I should consign them or donate them or give them to a friend." And then, since I can't decide, the clothes pile up. Or, so do other things. I recently found a local charity that I feel good about giving things to. So, off go the clothes. And the rest I toss as much as I can. I've learned that for me, the MENTAL CLUTTER is much more dangerous to MY thinking (hence, my environment). Hope this helps. HUGS.
  2. I am curious about this topic, too, as I plan to do my first 5K in May. Never been a runner. Just went for new shoes and gear. Shoes, I went to a local running specialty store, they tried on different shoes, watched me run. Very helpful. Gear - Target. This is the plan I will use: http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2/2_3/181.shtml
  3. Just an update --THANK YOU ALL! I went to Sephora this morning and had a fabulous time. The woman who helped me was awesome -- my age or older, and so she understood my needs for coverage and long-lasting makeup. She tried many types of foundation and let me pick the one that worked best for me. I bought foundation, a brush, mascara, and lip stain. (I already use the Primer mentioned above by Monistat, which I also learned about here ). She gave me samples of many things, too. Awesome!!
  4. I took a class in Word Study in the fall. WTW is a great program. There is a lot that can be done orally and visually. Feel free to PM or post more questions and I will try to answer them.
  5. I would also do some things but not all. Paint is an easy do-it-yourself update. Bathrooms can be cleaned really well and new mirrors/fixtures installed without doing a whole remodel. What about a home stager? There are many in the area who will come by, give suggestions about the most necessary items. We used one, and the $200 we spent was worth every penny in reasonable advice. Our house sold its first week on the market for very close to asking price. Just a thought. Here is her web page with lots of tips. http://www.richmondstagingandredesign.com/Contact-Us-Free-Tips-Specials.html
  6. Our campus does the same as above -- if another mom is willing to watch your kid, you may send him/her. Hope you feel better!
  7. I hope you enjoy the Open House! Every CC Campus is run by its own director, and so she(/he) may have certain routines and expectations that can make a program successful. A few suggestions: - What nursery options are available? Is there an extra charge or do parents rotate? - What expectations are there of participating parents? Examples would include helping with lunch/recess games, helping with clean up.
  8. Thank you! I was a huge fan of Laura Mercier's mineral makeup some years ago. Now I need more coverage -- may have to try her tinted stuff. Would Sephora carry it? Thanks again, everyone!
  9. Thank you! I am interested in seeing a wide variety of brands!
  10. "This is the right thing for our family right now." This works for me. Most people are brazen enough to question educational options but not family choices. Good luck.
  11. I need to update my makeup, specifically my base/foundation. During my last PG I developed mild rosacea, and I also have some sun/age spots. I'm in my early 40s and want to look good, but not fake. I know I need a good primer, concealer, and foundation, and I am willing to pay decent money for them vs. drugstore brands. Question is where to go. I live about 30 minutes from a metro area. Stores include a Sephora and Ulta, as well as a good mall with department stores (Macys, Nordstrom, etc). There are also a few small business/boutique makeup places, though they tend to have their own brand loyalty (Jane Iredale, etc.). Any suggestions on what would be the best place to go? I am hoping to drop the kids with the grandparents and have time to dedicate to trying brands, colors, etc. Thanks in advance!
  12. I second the library as a great resource. Web sites help, too. My favorite is Adventures of a Gluten Free Mom. Also, look for Paleo and Primal cookbooks and web sites -- these will be helpful, also. Good luck!
  13. I hope others chime in, as my food allergy experience is with foods other than milk. However, to get you started, I recommend Living Without magazine and getting a milk substitute called DariFree (powder form). This way you can make many things that call for milk in it. Reading labels will become a part your new life experience. :grouphug: Hope she feels better soon!
  14. Here's another one that is free with a grocery list: http://www.youvegotsupper.com/index.asp
  15. I don't know if it is the pill, but might she try it WITH breakfast tomorrow? Tha may help.
  16. This is excellent advice (having once been there, and much more was at stake than a TV, though I totally get what this poster is saying!) This is so tough. Sorry you must deal with it.
  17. My DS (who has Trisomy 21, aka Down syndrome) attends a special needs preschool. His teacher asked me a few weeks ago if I knew much about Trisomy 17, which she said is very rare. After I said no, she left it alone. (She is awesome, BTW, and very professional.). Today I went in to school for a "first day" party for a new student, and I'm thinking this may be a child with a Trisomy, given his facial structure. Putting two and two together may be a correct leap or may be just off. But my little guy seemed to LOVE his new friend, and so if friend does have T17, I'd love to know more as another trisomy mom. Thanks in advance!
  18. I tried E-mealz for 3 months and didn't like it -- too many canned things (this was the gluten-free menu). I switched to Fresh 20 when I saw an online deal. I have been VERY happy with it, and my family is actually eating the food. I also like how food is used multiple times throughout the week to lessen waste. For example, beef used in a roast on Monday (with a side salad of lettuce and veggies) turns into tostadas on Wednesday (with leftover lettuce & veggies as tostada fixins). http://www.thefresh20.com http://www.adventuresofaglutenfreemom.com/ also has (FREE) meal plans, though I don't think hers comes with a grocery list.
  19. I figured out to let them simmer for a long time. Sorry to be a bother!!
  20. Hi, Hive Cooks! I am making chili for a friend who just broke two bones. Poor thing. I soaked the dry beans overnight. But then I got caught up in chopping onions, etc., and put the soaked beans in the pot with the meat and veggies. As in...I didn't cook the beans after soaking overnight, like I usually do to soften them further. How long should I cook this? Will it kill the meat (turkey)? Should I drain out the beans, cook them, and then start again? Sorry I'm so helpless. I was raised by a non-cook and am trying to cook more healthy, less-processed things. Blessings.
  21. I can't give you advice about the room price, but I agree with the PP about eating off grounds. There are many, many restaurants nearby that are better! Also, I think most rooms have small fridges and coffee pots. We did pop tarts and fruit for breakfast and brought sandwich fixins for lunch to save $$, too.
  22. For the EEL part -- Shurley or Rod and Staff. For the writing -- I love IEW, and so I'll hold off and let others suggest something else.
  23. We're going to do Biblioplan next year for 4th and 1st grades for Ancients. I know one of the writers personally (disclaimer) and she has been awesome helping me this year navigate Year 3 w/Classical Conversations as well. Also, as we do now, I will start each day reading a chapter from the Bible as the kids finish breakfast, color, write, play with cars, etc. This helps them settle down for school time. This year we're doing the Gospels. Next year we'll do Genesis and Exodus.
