  1. Does anyone have some favorite logic / critical-thinking books or materials that are fun to use in a class that will have 2nd-4th grade students? I don't want the 2nd grader to be left out by choosing things that are too difficult, but at the same time, I don't want the 4th graders to be bored either. I would be grateful for suggestions. Thanks! Darlene
  2. Yes, I would like to know for sure. However, I was on some other post (can't recall which one) and I clicked the word "tags" and it showed me a bunch of words related to that post. It appears that you can put in things that pertain to your post or items for sale. For example if I was selling an Apologia chemistry book I could tag the post with words such as "science", "Apologia", "chemistry". If I was selling an item that is used with Veritas Press materials or Sonlight, I could add tags for that. I think you get the picture. I usually just search the forum for what I am looking for so I am not sure how tags help me. I sure wish someone would enlighten us! Darlene
  3. Gina, on my profile I have the following checked so that that feature is enabled: Receive email from administrators & other members Instant email notification for thread subscriptions Private Messaging Email notification of private messages Show new private message notification pop-up (if online) Enable visitor messaging I have always received instant email notifications for private messages in the past and my settings have not changed. I can't figure out why I am not getting notifications on some of my messages, but I do on others.
  4. I can't seem to find what tags are and how they work with searches. Can anyone explain? Also, I am not receiving emails telling me I have a private message even though this feature is enabled in my profile. Until this week, I have always gotten notifications via email for private messages. Anyone know what might be the issue? Thanks! Darlene
  5. There is a discussion about this at this link http://www.textkit.com/greek-latin-forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=6730&p=55506 Hope it helps. :001_smile: Darlene
  6. I am so glad I found this post. I am considering Math Without Borders for this year. Do the DVDs only cover the Algebra 2 portion of the book or is the trig covered as well? Thanks, Darlene
  7. Hi Pam,

I'd love for you to leave feedback for me and I can do the same for you. I think I figured it out. While you are reading this message or wherever you see my ID, just click on it and it will bring up some tabs. One of them is Feedback. You can leave feedback there.

Thank you for a wonderful transaction.

    God bless,

    Darlene

  8. Camille, I noticed something about shipping to Alaska and using a purchase order on the Rainbow Resource website (I changed the text to red to highlight for you; Rainbow bolded the last line): ================================================================================== How long will it take to receive my order? Normally, your order will leave our warehouse from one to six business days after we receive it. If all items on your order are in stock, it may go out the next day, especially during times of the year when our order volume is relatively low. If there are items on your order that are temporarily out of stock, we hold the order up to 5 business days to try to fulfill the out of stock items. School purchase orders may be held up to 10 business days to fulfill out of stock items. Please see our backorders policy for more information on how these are handled. During April, May, June and July we are packing for exhibits at our warehouse, and this sometimes slows shipping time. The heavy order volume we experience in July, August, and September can also slow shipping time, although we are constantly implementing measures to improve our order processing time. If your order is shipping UPS, actual shipping time (after it leaves our warehouse) varies from 1-7 days, depending on the shipping zone in which you are located. Orders shipped U.S. Postal Service Media Mail (Book Rate) may take up to 2-4 weeks within the 48 contiguous states. U.S. Postal Service shipments to AK and HI may take up to 3-5 weeks, while USPS Priority Mail shipments to AK and HI generally take 5-7 days. Please allow 2-3 weeks for Canada Air Mail, and 4-6 weeks for shipments sent Air Mail to other countries. We are not able to provide shipping time estimates on orders shipped to APO addresses. If order processing time is important, please order by phone during our normal business hours so that we can give you our best shipping time estimate. ================================================================================== God bless, Darlene
  9. Hi, Has anyone used the Geometer's Sketchpad with Jacobs Geometry, 3rd edition (or 2nd for that matter)? If so, did you find it valuable? Was it work the cost? I'd love some input. Thanks, Darlene
  10. I would enjoy the time with them and only do fun things. They learn so much from anything that they do naturally and there are so many years ahead of them to do academics. I have never looked back and wished I'd done more school with any of my children, but I frequently regret not doing more fun things that would have brought joy to both of us. Enjoy your children. They time is so short! Blessings, Darlene
  11. We tried doing only even or odds, but invariably the problems that my children needed to work seemed to be in the opposite set! What we discovered worked better for us was to do the lesson and practice problems of two consecutive lessons and then do only one of those problem sets. That worked very well for both of my children. I generally had them do the second lesson (i.e. if they did practice problems on lesson 1 & 2, they did the problems set for lesson 2), however, at times I would choose the lesson based on what I thought fit their skills best. Blessings, Darlene
  12. We chose Ecclesiastical because both of the Latin programs we used recommended it and had pronunciation guides for it. It worked well for us. I think whatever you choose, the greatest help is to be consistent. Blessings, Darlene
  13. I just read an article about kids and sleeping problems which said that a defieciency in Omega-3 fatty acids can affect sleep. My dd who is 11 years old had difficulty sleeping and staying asleep. She now takes fish oil twice a day and we have seen great improvement not only in her sleeping, but also in her ability to concentrate and stay focused on school work. I don't know if fish oil will help twitching, but it might be a good thing to try. Blessings, Darlene
  14. We should drill here and in Alaska. We have the technology to drill more precisely that before and to do it with minimum harm to the environment. We are buying oil from many other places in the world where they ARE drilling and doing it with much greater harm to the environment and to people who reside closely to where the drilling is taking place. We don't seem to have as much objection to the drilling as long as it isn't in our own country. Other countries are drilling off our coasts, yet we have tied our own hands. It is absurd. It's time to drill and do whatever it takes to become energy independent. At the same time, we should also persue viable alternative fuels which do not create a shortage of food and drive prices higher.
  15. I've noticed that several posts have just the word "bump" on them. What does this mean? Thanks!
  16. Have you tried getting a supplement of Omega 3 Fatty Acids? Children with ADD and other learning disorders are deficient in Omega 3s. Our bodies need DHA and EPA, but our bodies cannot produce them if we do not eat food rich in Omega 3s. Cold water fish like salmon and cod are the best sources, but flax seeds or meal, and walnuts, and extra-virgin olive oil also contain Omega 3s. Fisl oil is superior to vegetable sources, however. My daughter has benefitted greatly from fish oil this past year. It has been amazing to see how it has helped her to focus, especially in staying on task. She has improved in most every subject and isn't nearly as frustrated as she has been in the past. I am contemplating switching her to a combination of oils (EFA Blend for Children or Nordic Naturals DHA for Children) this year to see if we get any more improvement. Borage oil and Evening Primrose Oil are sources of GLA, which our bodies also need. I have my own problems with concentration and I have discovered that Omega 3s really really make a difference for me. They also help with skin problems like eczema. If you are a member of the HSLDA (Home School Legal Defense), or would like to join, they have people on staff that you can talk to about your child's learning disabilities. The website is www.hslda.org and they have a link to "Struggling Learners" which gives some general information about learning disorders and a number to call if you are a member to reach staffers who can help with your individual challenges. I hope this may help you or someone else in some way. God bless, Darlene
  17. Sorry, but I just realized that the number of posts was listed when I posted this question.
  18. Since you must have 50 posts to sell something, how can I tell how many posts I have made? I don't want to just post silly things to get to 50, but I may have some items I want to sell. It might just be me, but 50 posts seems like a lot. Darlene
