  1. Do you make things for your children that they will be able to use in the further? If so what? If you had a Hope Chest and know how to knit, crochet, embroidery and could buy things over many years to fill it up - what would you buy/make? OK this does not quite answer your question, because it is not making things, but: When I was pretty darned young, I started getting tools for birthdays and Christmas and being taught how to use them. When it came time to get married I packed up my tools and went. When first married I had a bachelors degree, but it brought in no money for the first couple of years. For the first few years having the tools and the ability to use them not only saved us a lot of money that we really needed, but also made us some. On the other hand we have several quilts and afghans made for us by people who we love and love us and they are priceless to us. The money for comforters blankets etc. is insignificant, but every time you look at the stitching, you think how much love went into making that item. If you can make a few such items for your children, hopefully when life hurts it will give them some comfort, and at other times they will look at them and smile.
  2. Hello IA TEACHING MOM I will pray for you and your husband. I can not advise you on which of the books to use, I can only pray for you. Two of my friends with the same name claim to be agnostics, after praying for each of them significantly I asked them each the same question and was floored by there answer. I started by asking the first one if I could ask God and he would send down lightning and destroy my car right now, would he confess that God was real. The answer was no, and that lead to the other question, and that was how much proof would it take for you to confess that Jesus Christ is Lord? I asked this question to both of them. In each case they basically said it would take an infinite amount of proof. One said creating a few more worlds similar to the one we live in while I watch, and even after that I would not confess that God has the right to say what is right or wrong or to judge His creation. All I can say is that they demonstrated what is said in 1 Corinthians 1, I can not convince them by great reason, only God can soften there hearts, so I still pray. daddygeek
  3. I currently have the liberty to buy insurance or not buy insurance. I can look at a policy offered by my employer or someone else and choose to buy it or choose not to buy it. I have the liberty to spend my lifes savings if that is what it takes to keep a member of my family healthy. I have currently rejected a health insurance plan because I can write a check for more than the maximum they would pay and it would cost a substantial part of my income to buy the insurance. The only good thing I could say about the plan I have been offered is that it is better than anything a government would offer. By the way I pay more in social security and medicare than my parents collect combined. This is nothing new, when my dad was working he paid more than his parents collected. But fear not I will reduce what I produce to a level that it is not all confiscated. I do support charity, but the government is not a charity they take what they get with the barrel of a gun. I only pay taxes for fear of government violence against me and my family and our ability to take care of ourselves. Why should you take what I earn by violence?
  4. I work in the oil and gas business for those people who do not know you can not live unless we continue working hard. Attached is a link to an article discussing how much energy it takes to feed each American, and that is without getting it to the grocery store or cooking it. http://www.fromthewilderness.com/free/ww3/100303_eating_oil.html But the entitelment crowd continues to steal more of my pay all the time. I recently took two years off, I know many others who are choosing to produce less and enjoy life more. I can not think of a better way to express myself than by not working, and therefore not feeding, heating or cooling for those who do not want to earn there own, Or provide there own health care. My only problem is that there are those who have already produced more than enough for a lifetime and others who still produce, and I would hate for them to starve or freeze to death as a result of free loaders.
  5. Simon meaning he who hears in Hebrew. Thanks for everyone's input. Here is a picture of Simon he is a standard poodle and is 10 weeks old.
  6. Yes he is a boy standard poodle. Part of his job will be to look after my dd and dw, the other part will be to listen for me as my ears are less than great. Thanks
  7. That is neat, are the double oos pronounced like shoe, and is the shy pronounced like one who is affraid of strangers? thanks again.
  8. I think that would have been a perfect name if only we had gotten the female puppy. Thanks for the suggestion. daddygeek
  9. Thank you, I like the name, but am not sure little ears is just right given that the dog will weigh between 50 and 75 pounds when fully grown. Thanks again. daddygeek.
  10. We just got a new pup, and would consider naming him ears, but not in english. Other related words might be OK if they sounded just right and had a suitable meaning. For example sound, listen, or one who listens. We have heard the pronunciation in spanish for ears, and that does not have the right sound. Any suggestions?:bigear: Thank you in advance for your help. daddygeek
  11. so does that mean that you think the kindest thing you can do for a kid is the least effective not the most?:):001_smile:
  12. Maybe if these shelters were more reasonable to deal with, more people would adopt pets from them and they wouldn't have to kill so many animals. But then I really don't think they care about that. But then I really don't think they care about that. Really? I think most shelters are doing the best they can to find good homes for the animals in their care. They have a protocol for weeding out applications that may indicate the animal *could* be a repeat customer for them in the future. Failure to spay/neuter current pets is a warning flag. I'm curious how you feel the shelter is benefiting by being choosy about who is allowed to adopt. end quotes If I were one of the dogs, I believe I would consider a 75% chance of a perminant home better than a 100% chance of being put to death. For that matter a diet including meat would be better than being put to death or living for another 4 years would be better than being put to death today. You asked what they stand to benefit, I believe it is the chance to forward a socialist druid agenda, but then you did ask.
