  1. My son is color blind (red/green) as well. He will never see color like a person who is not color blind, so I try to not give him that expectation. We've tried to narrow down over the years what colors he does see but shades of color also give him problems. He also sees pink as gray. Purple is non-existent b/c it's all blue. Some shades of yellow and green and orange get mixed up. He sees a lot of extremely dark colors incorrectly as well. Like sometimes he thinks dark red is brown. We've just tried to not make it a big deal. It is what it is and we just work around it. I surely never ask him to color coordinate anything haha!! As far as the other issue, I would see an eye doctor who specializes in eye care. Not all eye drs at any given clinic are actual doctors and it may be best to bring him to someone at like a children's hospital or something? Good luck
  2. donna young's site has a lot of helpful planning and grading stuff for high school. There's also an explanation of weighted grades and a spreadsheet for grading. Most of your curriculum should come with tests? so there's grades along with any quizzes and daily work grades. hth
  3. I don't mind waiting! I got the book for $1.00 :)
  4. I downloaded Advanced Language Lessons and decided to go with that for my 7th grader. I didn't buy any of it. They are all free downloads on google books. Although I did buy the teachers manual for ILL. GwG, while they liked it as far as they could like any grammar I guess, seemed like busy work to me. They never really put a whole lot of effort into any of it. I guess we'll just play it by ear and see where the year takes us. I plan to start my 6th grader at part 3 of ILL and see how she does. I'm not really sure if needs to start at part 1 or not???? I have a K'er as well and he will start PLL in first grade. And like I said, they'll all do Jensens when they get into the 8th or 9th grade.
  5. :iagree:my daughter HATED this book as well. she has never felt such a strong dislike for a book.
  6. oh gosh I am!! I keep seeing all these moms in my area with countdowns till school starts and I keep thinking I'm with ya but not b/c i'm ready to get rid of my own children (obv since I hs) but I'm ready to get rid of YOURS!! Omg!! seriously ppl I am not your daycare!! I don't want to feed, watch and take your child(ren) everywhere with me... I get tired too and want a break... :glare:
  7. I have a 4, 6, and 7th grader. We did GwG last year. This will be our second year homeschooling. I want all three of them to do ILL. I love the format, everything it covers. I liked GwG last year and so did they but it seemed like it was just busy work. I want something...more if you kwim? So my question is where do I start them? I know my 4th grader will start at Part 1 (we plan to transition into Progressive Composition when done with ILL for all of them) but what ab the other two? Do I just start at the beginning for them all and with other two just let them keep going. Any thoughts would be appreciated. I plan to do Jensens Grammar, Punctuation and Format Writing in 9th Grade.
  8. i agree with everyone else :) Maybe you could take this time do some of the above suggestions as well as work on improving fine motor skills through cutting/pasting, picking things up with tweezers and moving them (sorting or something of the like) and pouring exercise. These are all fun and important skills to have. Writing will come in time. My kids personally love to finger write in shaving cream and sand. The messier the better right?
  9. awesome!!! I won't need this till next year but it will be saved!!
  10. My husband and I saw rock of ages and it is very adult themed. I probably would have brought my teenage children but the theater we bought tickets at in Dallas recommended no kids at all! My kids all love 80s music and even earlier :D so it would have been a great experience BUT... The show is very sexual in nature. Simulated s@x scenes and so forth and the whole nature of the show is EXTREMELY sexual with part of it being in a strip club. I'm very lax and I wouldn't bring my 9 yo.
  11. I am using the Webster All American Speller for my 4, 6, 7th graders who need remedial phonics work and have trouble spelling. I think their trouble spelling is due to phonics issues. This is their second year homeschooling and I think never having learned a phonics base is just bringing them down. I think this will help us teach phonics and spelling at the same time without making my kids feel like I'm teaching them to read all over again. sorry that was sort of a digression from what you originally asked:tongue_smilie: if you want something more workbookish - maybe Spelling Workout.
  12. we tried several different ways throughout last year but what I found really worked was to have a master plan, which included some expectations on it and then we journal. This year my big kids will do their own journaling and I will journal for my littles. I find this helps remain efficient in keep track of work but also makes us feel accomplished. The master plan also makes sure we stay on track.
  13. well it was a little sarcasm mixed it in to that post haha i really love her blog but I wish there was more truth to it! Thanks for that link. I'm always on the look out for great recipes. I'm not naturally a great cook. That's why i love this board - so much to learn and gain.
  14. wow - i guess i don't spend enough time on her blog and just go pick out recipes for things i like ...i'm so disappointed to find out that she's all fake...go figure...:( guess there are no superwomen...i should stop trying eh???
  15. That's so rude - i spend a lot of money on my animals too but if faced with an extremely expensive surgery i'm not sure I could do it. I love love my animals but in the end, feeding my children and paying my bills are very impt as well. I think maybe we are attacking the OP for no reason and looking for reasons to find ill in what she says. I mean I think overall we understood her point. :glare:
  16. My daughter does an afterschool drama class as well and I also bought this from christianbook : http://www.christianbook.com/performing-literature-interpretation-drama-teachers-edition/9781579246235/pd/183459?product_redirect=1&Ntt=183459&item_code=&Ntk=keywords&event=ESRCP
  17. I would also like to add that many mental disorders comingle and mirror one another. And while one might be experiencing symptoms of one disorder they may present with something else or have a combination of something. Mental disorders are such that each person is unique and special in their disorder. While my bipolar II may not look exactly like someone else's bipolar II b/c my chemical makeup is different from his/her, it is still bipolar II. So while we can say this is the generalizations of what each disorder look like, in essence each and every case of a mental disorder is special and unique and imo must be handled as such. In children especially, the changes their bodies are going through can make what appears to be classic symptoms of say bipolar or ODD can really be something like depression brought on be an upheaval in their lives or lack of structure and discipline or stress and anxiety from a peer situation. They really need both talk-therapy from a psychologist and a psychiatrist imo to get a clear diagnosis of what the child really needs and what a real dx should be.
  18. i found this yesterday at goodwill and i wondered if it would be a good algebra resource? and if so, which level of algebra? My dd will be in algebra 1 this year and I wonder if she can use this book or wait until she is in algebra 2? tia!
  19. I hope and pray all goes well for you at the dr today :grouphug:
  20. I just finished my associates in business from Thomas Edison. I get a diploma in September (that's when graduation is although I won't be attending in NJ). My dad got his first degree from there back in the 70's. LSU (I live in Louisiana) recommends them on their website b/c they don't offer an online degree program just online classes. I loved my experience there and most of my mentors (hey you can't love everyone right?). I would like to get an bachelors one day but right now my kids prefer the only schooling going on in my house centers on them!! haha  Overall TESC offers a great distance learning experience:D
  21. :iagree: I could not agree more!! I won't get into my own personal situation but my sister and I come from the same upbringing and while I don't think I am a GREAT mother, I think I am a good, decent mother. I love and adore my children and strive to give them a good upbringing. While my sister on the other hand, wallows in her self-pity and is constantly looking for cake and balloons for her pity party. Grow up and move on will ya? Suck it up for goodness sake.
