  1. My 8yo is doing mostly second grade work. Logic of English: covers phonics, grammar, and spelling Classical Phonics + readers from Memoria Press first grade list (he's still learning to read) SRA 2 New American Cursive Math Mammoth 2 TOG Yr 1 (mostly I just read the books aloud) Elemental Science Biology lapbooks Daily Geography Extra: gymnastics and drums in Homeschool Band This usually makes for a 3 hour day unless he dawdles on his math, which is common, and alone can take up to 2 hours for 2 pages.
  2. I used AAS for three years previously and bought WRTR this summer with the intention of using it this year with my youngers. I feel like LOE is the perfect blend of the two programs. It's open and go, and you can as few or as many of the optional activities as needed. I use almost none of them with my 10yo that I'm taking quickly through the program (excellent reader but atrocious speller). I use quite a few of the optional activities, plus the games, with my middle two that are going through the program together at a slower pace. I really can't say enough about how wonderful this program has been for me. It definitely would've solved a lot of issues I've had the past five years in the Language Arts/Phonics/Spelling department, and saved me money over all the things I've tried. :tongue_smilie:
  3. Are you needing it for TOG Year 1? I looked for it on Netflix and Amazon, as well as DirecTV On Demand. I never did find it, and then my husband reminded me that we already have a VHS copy of it. Not much help, I know. :D Good luck finding it!
  4. Donna, Thank you so much for coming out of hiding! I really appreciate it! I'm away from my house for the next day but I'll try this out when I get home tomorrow. *fingers crossed*
  5. I have been trying and I cannot see any way to get these files to Dropbox or notability or to a .pdf. This Mama Teaches, can you help us out?
  6. This is what I use as well, and I've been happy with it. The author is very prompt in responding to questions and welcomes suggestions as he continually adds improvements to the program. The Scholaric blog helps to give you an idea of the improvements he's already made.
  7. Awesome! But...how do you get them into Dropbox? ETA: I already have both Dropbox and Notability set up on my iPad, and dropbox on my mac, so this would be ideal!
  8. Has anyone figured out a way to get the teacherfilebox units onto a Kindle Fire or iPad? I've spent the past few days putting all the units I want into my filebox, and now that I've started to print, I'm thinking it may be better if I could just have dd complete them on my iPad, if possible. BTW, could Evan-Moor have made their website any more difficult to navigate? It's so slow and clunky! :banghead:
  9. Latin: Second Form, Visual Latin Math: Strayer-Upton (I think), Singapore IP L.A.: Logic of English then Harvey's Grammar & Wheeler's Graded Dictation, Classical Composition: Narrative, CW Poetry, Self-Designed Literature Program, Elson Readers 5 History: TOG Yr 1 Geography: MP Geography I Greek: Elementary Greek Year One Science: ES Logic Biology Fine Arts: Harmony Fine Arts 5 Flute & Piano
  10. Mine is scheduled to arrive on Monday! Yay! :)
  11. Yay for you! I went ahead and ordered from RR today. I just couldn't justify the extra $20 it would have cost me to get it from the publisher.
  12. Math, Latin and music practice are 5x/week for the 10yo, and reading aloud is the only daily must for the 8yo and 5yo.
  13. Hello, myself, two years ago. :seeya: Yes, what you say makes perfect sense. I didn't quite know what was missing but I knew something was: Thirsting for God in a Land of Shallow Wells spoke to me when I was at that point. Oh, and listen to Miss Patty Joanna. She's quite insightful. :001_smile:
  14. I would, although I haven't done it myself yet, since we start Latin here around 2nd grade. But since that is also what MP recommends (5th+ for FF, or 4th for a student who has completed LC I), I would think it would be fine, especially if the student has a decent grounding in grammar. However, depending on the student, doing LC I in 5th might be a good plan; it would definitely give a student a leg up on vocabulary and some of the grammar concepts before moving into FF, and that might be a good thing in a coop. I just personally think that the Form series is far superior to LC (in structure, built-in practice, video help, and explanations, etc.) but MP has now released extra review worksheets (scroll down) to go along with LC that hopefully help with one of the biggest deficiencies I saw in the program--lack of practice. I will definitely be using these the next time around. One thing I will not be using for LC? The videos--ugh! :tongue_smilie:
  15. Yes. FWIW, my dd did Lively Latin 1 in about a year (as in 12 months), including the History. But she was on the young side for LL and didn't retain much of the last few chapters. Taking redsquirrel's example, we went back and reviewed some of the later grammar concepts, redoing all of the worksheets (it took about 6 weeks) before moving on to a combo of First Form/Visual Latin. I've sometimes entertained thoughts of going back to LLBB2 or buying it for use as a supplement but the Form series is so systematic and thorough. And I think, 'why fix what isn't broken?' :001_smile:
  16. Honestly, I feel like the translation in FF is enough for the ages that the program is intended for. There is quite a bit of English to Latin and Latin to English translating in the workbooks; it's just not whole paragraphs like Lingua or Lively or Visual Latin. But again, my dd really enjoys Visual Latin as a supplement. You can try some lessons free on the website. Each lesson consists of three short videos, each video to be followed by completing a go-along worksheet. After the third video, there is a translation page, but my dd has never found it to be overwhelming. But IMO, FF needs no supplementation.
  17. I would say FF might give your dc that boost of confidence they need to keep going with Latin, maybe even like it! :) My dd has appreciated the predictability and hasn't seemed bored by it at all. But I do throw in a lesson of Visual Latin sometimes just for variety and for more translation. With all that said, though, you might want to start a thread over on the Memoria Press forums and ask them. Tanya and some of the other staff members are always quick to answer and will likely have some good thoughts for you.
  18. I would look at Lively Latin or First Form. We've done both and I really like both! If you're wanting something, though, that will take you long-term, I would probably go with FF since the entire series is almost out. There are videos (although we didn't use them this past year, but I did buy them for Second Form) which makes it extremely easy on the teacher, and the TMs are very helpful, giving you the recitations, grammar notes, etc.
