  1. There's a great song by They Might Be Giants called "The Mesopotamians" that mentions Sargon, Asshurbanipal and Gilgamesh. Awesome. Here's a link to their video: It has one mild swear ("****") so we just changed the words in that line. ;)
  2. My husband & I got matching tattoos on our 10th anniversary. Mind you, we are NOT tattoo people. This will be the last one I get. ;) That being said, we each have a small "X" on our right ankles--Roman numeral 10. Discreet and subtle.
  3. I really like Latin for Children. My boys will be going into 6th & 7th grades, and they'll be in Primer C in the fall, but your kiddos could start right in with Latin Alive.
  4. I really like Latin for Children. My boys will be going into 6th & 7th grades, and they'll be in Primer C in the fall. For your 8th grader just starting out, Latin Alive seems like a good fit.

  8. I really like Latin for Children. We started at the end of their 4th & 5th grade year with Primer A. My boys will be going into 6th & 7th grades, and they'll be in Primer C in the fall.

  11. Yep--just started this past year, when the boys were finishing up 4th & 5th grades. We did a crash course in Latin for Children Primer A, and worked on Primer B throughout the school year. They'll be in Primer C in the fall, and I'll be teaching Primer A at our co-op. ;)
  12. And have your kids been using the History Readers? I found those invaluable. :)
  13. Our co-op uses the whole series from Classical Academic Press, so Latin Alive is what the high schoolers are using.
  14. Yep, just a pronunciation difference. Our co-op emphasizes classical, but my boys can do ecclesiastical too.
  15. I've been really pleased with Latin for Children. My boys just started it this past year, in 5th & 6th grades. It's been great for me too, as I had no Latin experience.
  16. Life of Fred: Pre-Algebra 2 with Economics. Last school year we did the Pre-Algebra 1 book, but I felt he needed more practice with the concepts. This was a nice compromise, so he didn't feel like he was being held back.
  17. I think IcG testing is the blood test...it's been a while, so I can't keep them straight. ;P
  18. Tim McVeigh--the Oklahoma City Bomber--went to our dinky little high school. It was very bizarre to see my 10th-grade math teacher on the national news talking about him.
  19. Don't know the situation, but praying nonetheless.
  20. Hi everyone, I'm HSing my kids, and in the very slow process of trying to complete my bachelor's. The school I plan on getting my degree at does take CLEP tests. What would you suggest be the best way to prepare for them? I'd like to take as many liberal arts ones as I can (sociology, Amer. history, biology, etc.) to get credits out of the way beforehand, so I can focus on my major once I'm actually enrolled and spend less time in the classroom away from my kids. Any websites? Curricula? Tips or caveats?
  21. We'll be celebrating our 15th next year, and have been friends for 20 years. I'm so grateful that I married my best friend, even though we drive each other nuts sometimes with our idiosyncracies. I can't imagine anybody else putting up with me the way he does. We do have down periods in our marriage, where we're just not loving/respecting each other the way we should, but thank God that He pulls us out of those funks.
  22. In the first few pages of the Primer A workbook, there's a suggested weekly schedule. We swear by it--heck, I wish every subject had one! ;0
