  1. I have being using both; RS and Singapore. I used RS as a core and added Intensive Practice books to it. My child read PM textbooks in order to be familiar with presented material before doing IP problems. I also found very helpful using MEP curriculum. It gave my child a lot of drilling and more challenging problems than Singapore Math could offer. Here is the link to MEP workbooks. They are free to download. My child is using 1b book this summer as an extra practice. She does 10 pages per day several times per week depending how busy we are with Summer Reading Program. MEP (Math Enrichment Programme)/ British resource http://www.cimt.plymouth.ac.uk/projects/mep/default.htm
  2. My daughter was doing Singapore PM US 1a/1b by just reading a textbook and then doing "Graded Mathematics for Primary I" ( Part A and B)+Intensive Practice for an appropriate chapter after that. I haven't used HIG for PM1 at all. For PM2 US we are going to use just textbooks + IP +CWP + Topical Worksheet+ Ace it for 2 grade. I have HIG for 2a/b, but I haven't looked at them. We are doing Singapore math along with RS math and MEP, so we will get a lot of extra practice there.
  3. Regena, What Russian book are you using? As for my planning I have looked at AoPS books contents and NEM and we are going to use Introduction to Algebra,Introduction to Counting and Probability, Introduction to Number Theory along with NEM1. As for "Challenge month" my child is going to use Olympiads problems and challenging problems. I am planning to have a " Challenge Month" twice per year for math, science, foreign languages and writing.

  5. For K I did Living Learning Books Level1: Animals, Human Body and Plants. I found it being a very good introduction to science for young kids. For 1st grader I used "Let's science" from Singapore science. My daughter had a lot of fun doing experiments with her dad who is an engineer(physics is not my piece of cake). We did 2 year program(2 books) withing a year. For 2nd grade we did Astronomy book but haven't finished it because we supplemented with AIG "Planet Earth" and "Weather" books. This summer we are doing R.E.A.L Science: Life and planning of making the "Animal Classification" lapbook. This fall we are going to do Apologia Zoology II (Swimming Creatures) and do RS4K chemistry/physics books for pre-level this winter/spring. We will do Zoology I in spring/summer/fall. My child will be entering 3rd grade this year.
  6. I started my dd when she was 3.5, but she had problems recognizing a quantity of 5 objects without counting so I switched to Singapore Earlybird math with her and went back to RS a year later. My son is almost 4 and we are going to do RS level A with him in a year. Right now I am doing Russian math for 3 years old with him. It is similar to Singapore Earlybird math, but has more drilling and critical thinking activities(what doesn't belong to the group, mazes etc). I tried MEP 1a with him but after 20 pages he was struggling with it. He was not ready for that level:)
