  1. The cost for an hour consult with an attorney is likely less than paying for half a fence- it would be worth it to me to get a clear understanding of my rights. Also, if your neighbor is an attorney, and if you have no legal obligation to comply with their requests, a letter from another attorney may be more persuasive than your say so. When we bought our house, we had a survey done that said our fence was well past the property line. It's like half our yard is past the property line. Fortunately, it's HOA land. The attorney said it was fine because the fence had been there so long that we just get the use of the land. I don't know if we're paying tax on it but I doubt it because it's still not included in the plot.
  2. The problem with quite a bit of water is that it starts floating by itself and then as you step around you may break some connections that are suddenly vulnerable and no longer secure. Then the mitigation company comes in and they don't care at all. They just yank it up and pile it up. It's a pain for someone to put back. I really tried to save it this time and it was going to take me 40-60 hrs just to sort it! The planks themselves were super dirty from all the water. We had to take every piece and clean it, dry it, check the connections, and set it aside in the right area. We were seeing a loss of about 50% and it took me about 2 hrs with 3 people to do maybe 60 planks. The contractors also have to consider planks that had been cut to fit a specific spot but who knows where that spot is now? It's a pain. When you have less water and fewer planks to replace, it's more reasonable.
  3. We had a water heater leak in Nov and there was water in several rooms of our basement. We were able to pull it up and put some of it back down but the mitigation company threw most of it away without asking! Fortunately we found some in stock and only had to purchase a few boxes. You can pull it up and put it back down. Ours had foam on the back too and there's no reason it shouldn't dry out just fine- check your installation instructions. They should be putting some big fans and dehumidifiers in there that run for a couple days. If they get those fans asap, you may be able to salvage the furniture but you should have them check. Insurance should cover contents. But in Jan we had flooding from an entirely different cause and ended up with 5in of water throughout the entire basement! When they pulled all the floor up vs just a portion, it was obvious there was no way we could put that back down. You have too many planks with broken connections when they pull it up. We had one contractor say they wouldn't even bid on the job if that's what we wanted because it would be too much of a pain. The water had to sit for a day or 2 and we couldn't get the mitigation company out with the fans quickly in Jan b/c power was out all over and trees were down and nobody could get there so the damage was worse. The sooner they get the fans going the better.
  4. DS took it for about a week and was a complete zombie. Tired is an understatement- he was practically passing out asleep while standing up. I think it works on blood pressure too and as someone who naturally had a very low blood pressure it was too much. ETA- time of day he took it didn't matter
  5. I saw it as a kid but never felt compelled to have my kids watch it. It's an ok movie and all but not what I'd consider iconic. They had to watch Goonies and Groundhog Day for cultural competency, for instance, but not Fern Gully. 🤣
  6. My DD gets it for eczema. It has made her skin manageable. It's a dramatic difference now but it took a long time. She's been taking it almost 2 years and only in the last few months has it been completely clear and she's finally able to back off on the steroid creams. Prior to that she showed significant improvement right away but her skin remained bad and she was putting steroids on every week. She had the kind of eczema where her clothes would stick to her and actually look wet on the outside because of the ooze and constant broken skin. We both think it's worth it and were worried the insurance wouldn't think she showed enough improvement because her score cards remained bad, but that wasn't a problem. Even though we're glad she can get dupixent, it's not without issues. The shots are painful. She's not used to it and hates it every single time. She uses tattoo cream to try to help with the injections but it can't prevent the burn. We are backing off a little and trying for every 3 weeks instead of 2 with the doctor's supervision because she hates it so much, but she hated her eczema more. She may find it more painful because she's so thin. She has very little fat to inject into and she would have a hard time giving a shot to herself because of her lack of stomach or leg fat. She has not had any eye reactions.
  7. Why isn't moderna being approved for anyone under 18? Is it politics or is it something substantially different/dangerous about their vaccine? I don't think the safety profiles have seemed super different.
  8. It says that among other things clonzepan is used for seizures. Could he have hit his head hard enough during a seizure while he was already in bed for the night and then not woken up or maybe not been able to get up once the seizure passed?
  9. My older girls seem to have quit growing but they still hold out hope that they'll get another inch or so. They're 17 and haven't outgrown anything in years. One of them had an xray around age 14 and was told she probably wouldn't grow anymore and I don't think she did; nothing significant anyway. My youngest DD (14) seems to have had a small growth spurt over the last year and is hoping for more, but she may end up remaining the shortest. She's barely tall enough to ride without a booster seat. I'm 5'2 (rounded up) and remain the tallest female in the house. I'm shorter than my mom- I don't know what happened to the trend of each generation getting a little taller!
  10. My daughter is sensitive and she does her best to never wear band aids or anything with adhesive. One of her doctors had her wear soft, close fitting clothing over the exposed area when possible. So she had back surgery and instead of tape, they took it off asap and she wore close fitting tank tops that were changed regularly. When she had procedures on her legs and ankles, she wore leggings, socks, or stockinettes. Now we have a big roll of stockinette and we can put it on arms too. If she has a wound somewhere that something like that isn't practical she has tried liquid skin but mostly just goes without asap.
  11. We couldn't use a water fountain. I tried a few but my jerk cat would only splash in them. Even now he only licks water off his paw. We give our cat the runniest wet food. I'm sure pate is better for most cats, but the ones that have chunks and gravy seem to have more moisture so we go for that and for a while we'd even add more water. Wysong sells a urinary food that worked slightly better but it's dry too. I think the most important thing is to keep stress low and water high.
  12. My cat had a urinary blockage when he was only about 5 months old. He's 10 now and fine. We did the urinary food at first but quit because it was expensive and he didn't like it. We give him wet food now and it seems to be working. He's never had any problems since switching- actually he has had fewer UTIs and urinary problems than on the rx food. He also ate a nerf dart and needed emergency surgery a few years ago. He is the most expensive cat!
  13. I'm so frustrated for my 4yr old. We thought we'd let him do things with a mask before Omicron but since that's so contagious we're still keeping him home. I signed him up for some outschool, which I can't believe I'd ever do at 4 but the first couple of classes were ok. I wish they'd approve something for younger kids soon. The older kids are only going places masked now and we are reducing the places they go. Our county's hospital is in crisis despite the numbers going slightly down in the community. I'm trying to wait until at least the hospital's numbers are down to pre Omicron numbers.
  14. I have 3: The first is that I wake up and find my parents have arrived for a week's stay. They're just on the couch hanging out and are like, "hi! We surprised you!" They live 7-8 hrs away so they would never just pop in. It's not upsetting (surprisingly, because I would be upset IRL, but I am befuddled). Then, I caught on to the recurring dream, so now, every time I have it I tell them it's probably a dream and they aren't real but they lie and say that no, of course they are really here and I'm not sleeping. LOL! I also have a recurring dream that I find a wing of my house that I hadn't noticed before. It's whatever house is my current house and it's not hidden or secret- it's just something that has been overlooked and it is always amazing. Like rooms upon rooms, or a huge gymnasium like at a YMCA. It's a big disappointment to wake up. The last is super boring and frustrating. I dream that I wake up and get ready for the morning like I usually would. It's very normal and nothing that wouldn't happen any average day. If I had something pressing to do that day, then I'm doing it. Except I'm not awake and invariably those dreams happen when I oversleep and I have to do it all over again but quickly.
  15. In addition to the classics, there's a lot of great new books/authors. My DS (4) has checked out Hello Friend, Goodbye Friend about a million times. It tears me up and is a great conversation opener. We like everything by Cori Doerrfeld and have The Rabbit Listened, and check out Wild Baby frequently. Other books and authors DS loved: Norman Didn't Do it! (Yes He Did.) Shh! We Have a Plan DS likes everything by Chris Haughton but my other favorite is Little Owl Lost. Peek a Who Pouch Little Owl's Night Everything Mo Willems and an old one: It Looked Like Spilt Milk
  16. I have several things in the closet but would have to pray they fit because I've been wearing pajamas for almost 2 years. One of them is black and short- so simple and easy. The other is a beaded dark blue ball gown that I love and has always been a tiny bit big but probably not big today. Dresses below- the one with me is old, but the dress is the same as I'd use today. That's not DH with me- just a tall friend.
  17. I'd put a request out on the local buy nothing group. There's an app or facebook groups for that. Our local group can be really helpful.
  18. The only way we like it is air fried. First we slice it and press it between some towels for at least 20 min. I put the air fryer on top to squish it well. Then, I mix it with some cornstarch and soy sauce, or whatever else feels appropriate to coat it in for the meal. Some people say you can avoid corn starch if you use an air fryer or if you press well, but I don't like it as well without. Then we air fry with plenty of space and I still add some oil or it sticks. I don't like mushy tofu.
  19. I'd get a basketball hoop unless you're getting 2 sit and spins. They could play with that together, taking turns, more than they could with a sit and spin.
  20. I agree- it wouldn't make any difference because you'd just address the symptoms which is pain and maybe some tightness.
  21. I don't know- you'd need to see either a neurologist or orthopedist for sure. My daughter was so mild everyone (even medical professionals) swore she couldn't have CP at first but the neuro and ortho took like 3 minutes and it was confirmed on MRI. One thing you can do is check your reflexes- hit both your knees and see what happens- do you kick once, not at all, or more than one kick? But that just measures one place. You could probably ask your primary doc to check your ankle reflex too. It can confirm CP (clonus) but I don't think a normal reflex rules it out.
  22. My DD has CP, and she was primarily affected in her achilles on one side. Her neuro would have probably diagnosed you CP in a hot minute because he believed all toe walking was neurological and if you add in the other things you say it sounds mild, but familiar. Are you sure you don't have mild cp- it can be very mild. Diagnosis doesn't really matter, though- treatment of symptoms is what they'd do. Tightness in the achilles will have a cumulative effect on the body so you may be experiencing consequences of years of tightness now that you're older. I don't know how old you are, but probably old enough to have some years in...and even if it's not CP, toe walking (or anything without a good heel strike) will result in an abnormal gait that even if mild will cause extra wear and tear on your body. Has your achilles reflex been checked? It's also getting cold outside which will make things worse. Heat helps. I would suggest- up your stretches a lot. My DD has something like this and this: http://www.afx-online.com/store/. The 2nd one is pricey but better and she can use it while watching tv and it gives a side to side motion that is hard to practice on your own. You could also try hot yoga and heating pads. It's possible the cramping at night would be muscle spasms. I don't know what you could do for those without a doctor but maybe a mild muscle relaxer at night from your primary doctor would help.
  23. Thanks for sharing. I've lost two family members to ALS and since they had the genetic variant, we're always worried someone else will pop up with it. I've saved the page you linked so I can call my senators tomorrow. I'll also share with my extended family who I know will be supportive. I hope it passes and I hope you stay as well as possible for as long as possible!
  24. I was a straight A, honors student, graduated a year early, and skipped school all. the. time. I don't think it means he's on drugs or going down a bad path. I'm surprised that so many see it as a red flag. Lots of my straight A, honors friends also skipped because we were bored and knew that we wouldn't miss anything in class. I would be annoyed that the AP interrogated him like that but not upset enough to call. In the world of bad admin experiences we've seen, that's not so bad. She should be talking to them and making them feel like it's a serious issue- that's her job. Maybe I'd say something different but unless she yelled at them or threatened them, I don't think she was seriously out of line. ETA- my kids and their friends never skipped school when they went to PS. Sometimes I wonder what's wrong with them?! Where's the mild rebellion? Maybe that's why kids today have so much stress- there's too much supervision and surveillance for them to blow off steam with small acts of rebellion.
  25. I read another article that said she found a phone with wifi and started watching Bieber videos and then making her own videos. Someone commented on of her videos asking about some odd things he noticed and she told him about her family life. He encouraged her to call police.
