  1. DS6 has been in the the Alpha Omega Horizons K book 1 for Math and Phonics since last year. We're working through it and he's doing well. I'm wondering if I need to move through the other books chronologically or can I just jump to grade 1? I have two older dc 15 and 13, so it's been awhile since I've been here. ;)
  2. Yes, I think this is a great thread for ideas on how to make money for homeschool mommas and even our teens or DH's who need an extra job or are in-between jobs and need ideas.
  3. Overwhelmed and thankful for the turn of events that took place this weekend. My parents have offered to pay off our debt! We are through the roof! They couldn't bear having me to have to go to work with everything else that is important (homeschooling 4 kiddos being the main one!) and they also have never wanted to "wait until they are dead" to give inheritance when they can give now and be blessed by seeing us blessed! It was a very large amount and it was choking us and DH was constantly stressed; we both were stressed! The reality of what it was going to take to pay if off was daunting to say the least. Thank you for your help and suggestions.
  4. Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. I'm not really looking into what my skills are, but more what is easy to find, not too intimidating and that won't infringe on our life too much. I like the seasonal warehouse idea. I think there is a FedEx warehouse location nearby. I saw someone post something recently on FB about an Amazon warehouse job nearby, too. I had no idea there was one nearby. I'll have to check into that. I also like the mystery shopper idea. Where do you look for those opportunities? I also like the idea of stocking cards, magazines. Where do you look for those types of jobs, too? I really think the cleaning business is going to be more along what we need to do because the whole family could actually do it or at least be there and it could turn into something that my older dc could eventually keep going and make money, too. An entrepreneurial opportunity. :) Hubby has also thought about getting something part time at a huge company that's nearby that does shift work. It could work out that he could come home from his regular job, have dinner/family time and then head out for a few hours of work later at night. If it's just two or three days of the week, it could be doable. I've even thought of Chik-fil-A for him. He worked in food service at the management level for years in our early marriage until he graduated from college. He's always wanted to own his own restaurant and would love to franchise a CFA in the distant future. Who knows what could end up happening! I do know, though, that we HAVE TO get out of this debt and I'm tired of being a slave to the lender! Hubby works too hard and makes too good of money for us to be living like we are in poverty. :'-/ Thanks for the ideas and please offer further information on how I can find out how to do the mystery shopping and card/magazine stocking jobs.
  5. I'm tired of debt and DH already works enough and I'm getting very motivated to be done with debt and move on for the future. I need ideas of where to look that isn't fast food or retail. I've thought about the public library. I'd rather do something quiet and independent like that rather than a department store or another type of customer service job. I'm open to ideas and even learning of any business ideas that could be started. I wouldn't mind cleaning, but I'm not too excited about being by myself in a closed business at night. :scared: I'm not interested in a MLM or things like that (YL, Plexus, etc.) Thanks for any help!
  6. We don't live in a brick home. We moved to the country onto 18 acres with a nice mobile home. We've lived here 2 years and we've noticed mold growing in our master closet ceiling the last several months. The air vent in the closet gets condensation on it so we think it's probably caused from constant condensation on the air vents inside the ceiling and maybe wet insulation. Since it's a mobile home, there is not attic access, so we would have to cut into the ceiling to fix it and then repair the ceiling. Ugh. I'm kind of nervous doing this ourselves because we've never dealt with this type of repair before. Who do we call? How much could this cost? I know mold is bad, but is there such a thing as just "normal" mold or is it all bad and the spores go everywhere and you have to evacuate your home for 6 months! :crying: That's what I've always thought of when I think of mold problems. Any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated!
  7. Yes, that's a good idea, but his co-workers will likely go out to eat for lunch, as they do for birthdays.
  8. I would like to have something delivered to my dh work for his bday this Tuesday. Any ideas? I don't want to do flowers. I've heard of donut delivery. What else? It's his 40.
  9. Never mind. They misled me on their website and said it was available when I entered my address. When dh called, they said it wasn't. Sigh. Any other suggestions?
  10. Is it better than Hughes? What other options do you know of for country folks needing internet access that can support large data transfers like online classes, etc.? Oddly enough, it is working fine for the actual online classes we are taking (through GoTo meeting for one and the other is text based only) and for the few online videos they need to watch for their lessons, but it is not working for transferring large data input. We currently use a mobile hotspot through ATT. It's the best we know of, but we really need something better. My kiddos are frustrated after starting school this week and they are constantly stalling on their questions that require large data transfer. They are using Monarch for some classes. Thanks.
  11. I apologize for hi-jacking, but I had a few questions since you've graduated 3 in TX... Did they take AP courses? Did they take SAT, ACT, both, other? PSAT or just SAT/ACT? What did your transcript look like? Any advice, wisdom would be very appreciated! Thank you! ETA: Are we ok with just doing the course progression like you mentioned (which is what we are doing) and then taking SAT and ACT and get good scores on those and then he'll be good to go? I've checked various universities (we aren't reaching for Ivy, more like small, Christian universities) and that's what I'm understanding we need to do. Steer me in a better direction, if not.
  12. I'm compiling a book list and wanted to add good books that are an overview of world history. I've been using Ambleside Online's book lists for History and Free Reading. Other suggestions?
  13. I'm not concerned, but she's my only child out of 4 that has done this. She's rarely been dry overnight and is sometimes dry after her nap, but it's never been consistent. I had bed*wetting issues growing up that were just developmental as did my mom when she was younger. DD has no medical issues, emotional issues, no pain, nothing and is normal otherwise. I'm fine with waiting it out for her developmentally, if necessary, but I'm just wondering if anyone could offer any ideas on what to do, if anything? I've looked into getting a P*eapod bed mat that has good reviews and may help her if she can sleep in p*anties, not a diaper. That's one of my thoughts anyway. Any other suggestions? Thanks.
  14. Wife could put an app on his phone and on wife's phone like Find My Friends or one of those tracking apps. Maybe he won't see it if he has a lot of apps? If he's up to no good, then he will likely find it and delete it, but it has to be deleted on both phones to be completely gone, from what I remember, so she could still track where he's at. If it's a good app, it will show the names of locations, not just areas, since the hotel is in the same area as work. Just a thought.
  15. I like to do sentimental gifts as well as useful fun items that I know they would love and use. I've always tried to be really thoughtful about their gifts and make them personal not just get something quickly and spend more money, too. (which is overwhelming to me if I wait until the last minute!) :-/ Books and book series, art stuff, educational toys/games, clothes. I get my girls these yearly birthday figurines and I can usually find them on Amazon marked down. James Avery charm for 13 year old. I'll probably get my 15 year old son a photo mousepad with a collage of pictures of the family and special moments. Something sentimental for the 6 year old, too. These items can be priced between $8-15.
  16. Yes! 4 year old doesn't have a bike yet and has been asking, so that's down for her.
  17. That's what I'm thinking, too. But, it's so hard to not buy the little stuff, too and have more gifts under the tree. I'll have to get creative so it's not junk, but they have more than a few gifts to open.
  18. We are on a tighter budget this year and I've been anxious about Christmas which got me to thinking about making my list earlier so that I can have an idea as I go along instead of waiting until Nov/Dec. and then possibly buying more than I should (which I can't this year anyway). Sigh. When I get anxious and overwhelmed, I shut down, so I have no ideas running right now. :-/ So, how about a Christmas list thread with ideas? :) My kiddos are 15, 13, 6, 4.
  19. Home 2 Teach is another option. We are using it for the first time this year and I like what I see and what they expect.
  20. I just called them and asked and they gave me one. Just fyi if you can't find one when you need it. :)
  21. From what I've read on other posts regarding Notgrass, it isn't the strongest program and adding writing is recommended if you really want to cover that credit. You could search this forum for other Notgrass posts and see more details and answers. I've not used it so I can't speak from experience, but I wanted to respond to tell you what I have read on this forum in the past. A search might be helpful and hopefully others will answer, too. :) ETA: there may be others who have tweaked Notgrass and added more to it to make it more worthy of a strong English credit. Hopefully they will respond.
