  1. Thanks ladies. I am noticing when looking at other curriculum that they are grade levels above where they would be in school. Did you find that Phonics Road put them way above grade level when you made the switch? Did any of your kids get confused when they switched curriculum with new markings and terms etc.?
  2. Silver Moon, thanks so much for your reply. I didn't realize I had posted it in the writting section. With the new layout I must of pressed the wrong button. I reposted on the K-8 board and I'll close this one.
  3. I need some wisdom. I have used Road to Phonics for two years now with my 9 and 6 year old kids. My 9 year old is doing level 3 and my 6 year old level 2. I need to do an emergency curriculum switch to a English curriculum they can do independently and I am struggling to find something for them. Has anyone had expereince in making a switch because they could no longer spend the necessary prep and teaching time? We recently got 2 new foster kids and there is no way I can be as intensive with teaching and prep that is required with Road to Phonics. I am sad to let it go but a change has to be made pronto :) If it helps in your curriculum advice... 9 year old... Loves. loves to read, is not a workbook kid, spells at a 10th grade level according to the phonics road 3 first speling test evaluation, could use work in writting. 6 year old... Enjoys reading, loves anything that involves creativity, doesn't have the best reading comprehension, Still working on some phonics rules, Spells at a 2nd grade level according to the phonics road level 3 spelling test, loves to write. Me.. little to no preperation, small amount of teaching time, a grab and go type of curriculum. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated :)

  5. Last year we read the book Surviving Jamestown: The Adventures of Young Sam Collier by Gail Langer Karwoski and Paul Casale DS (7) and DD (5)loved it. After we finished reading it aloud together my son picked it up and read it 3 more times on his own! My children fell in love with the Characters and longed to visit Jamestown after reading the book. I highly recommend it! FYI: There is one tiny part (as in two sentences) that you would want to use your discretion on reading aloud when a character is seen being tortured and burned.
  6. Perfect this info helps me out a lot. Basically it is just the visual effects for the kids.
  7. Can someone explain to me what the difference is in the Abeka readers between editions? I don't see much of a difference other then the cover and illustrations between the current editions and the editions published before that. What am I missing. Is there more or less content to the book?
  8. You are right that can be the case for sure. I just hop between two different ones and they know me very well. Plus the pharmacist is "grilled" about the ingredients in the meds because my daughter is highly allergic to inactive ingredients in lots of meds. I triple check everything!!!!
  9. My son has been wearing it since he was 6. If she smells no shame in getting rid of the smell;)
  10. I said 16 but I have always had the view age is just a number and it has more to do with maturity of the individual child. You might want to check with the police dept on what age restrictions they put on this in your state just in case.
  11. I guess this only applies if you have monthly prescriptions but I make sure to always have a coupon for new or transferred prescriptions and I transfer them to different pharmacies every time I refill them. That gets me at least a $10-$30 gift card to either redeem for groceries or buy my next prescription with. Last year I accumulated over $200 worth of gift cards. We have our own vegetable garden in our backyard so we aren't paying the hefty price of organic produce at the grocery store. We always use real plates, never paper plates to save money. I buy the kids clothes twice a year at the end of season clearance sales at stores like (gap and gymboree) so then when they are done wearing them I can sell them on ebay for at least the price I paid. We cook from scratch which is a double whammy because it keeps us healthy and saves us money!
  12. Draw a bed with the b as the headboard and the d as the foot board with a line underneath the letters. B goes at the front of the bed and D goes at the end.
  13. This is a totally ignorant question but What is a "Christian" dance studio? i have never heard of something like that. Do they just play christian music? Is it a certain type of dancing? I am very curious. Oh and your question about your DD I would leave it up to my daughter too I think that is a individual thing for each child to publicly display affection to her parent like that.
