  1. It is an old chain letter pyramid thing. With the old ones, you got a list of names, sent the "gift" to the first one, took her off, added your information at the bottom, and sent it to the designated number of people. edited to removed double word.
  2. I have lived in places, both large and small, with no specified time. I have lived in one place that had a specified time/date and they still do. Here, I only plan to give to the kids who live nearby, They all go out in a pack in the early evening (it's getting later as they all get older) and then go home or to a church trunk or treat. When the outsiders come, most of the parents and kids are gone.
  3. I have friends who use Laurel Springs, but I don't know the price.
  4. I think there is value in a half-day, play-based preschool, but not public school kindy.
  5. Some classes had online tests, others I had to go on campus for tests. They had the information in the syllabus.
  6. With your daughter's age, I would go with the online course. Community college students, as mentioned above, are often only taking the class because they have to have a science class and there would not be intelligent discussion, which would be the main reason for taking a class in person.
  7. B, unless I forget what I'm writing.
  8. Since you will be there on Monday, you can do many of the same things you would do at home. Get those disposable pans if the rental doesn't have what you need for cooking, do cookies ahead because they are easily portable, and then get decorations from a thrift store and donate them back when you leave.
  9. I was an angel one year, in a long white dress with gold rickrack on the princess seams, wings, and a halo. I would love to have had a fairy costume.
  10. I'm sorry for your loss. I hope your parents moving works out.
  11. I spell it Hallowe'en, but I like All Hallows Eve, too. I wouldn't write Eve'n.
  12. I use Google to search the forums. Type your search terms followed by site:welltrainedmind.com There are lots of options for materials that do not involve spending thousands of dollars to educate your children, including free options.
  13. I think I use shan't and oughtn't more than I use shall, but I don't normally notice. My home is a bubble of antiquated language.
  14. I get them done wherever. I have gotten them at dealerships, regular mechanics, Jiffy Lube type places, and at home.
  15. Perhaps they should be paying taxes to the English crown.
  16. What wonderful news! So happy for your family.
  17. I know it, but I can't remember the last time I ran across it.
  18. I really do think it is whenever she wants to. My grandmother is in her 90s and wouldn't have gray hair for anyone, I have never colored mine and am in my 40s.
  19. If they really wanted your family to go, they would have consulted about timing to avoid cutting into school. ETA: Your DH told them no. They need to respect his decision regarding your family.
  20. I would use the fact that next year is a presidential election year to organize government studies. My economics class in high school started and ran a business.
  21. Our family calendar includes 3 parts, all hang on the cork board. First is the weekly calendar that shows recurring events that happen on the same day and time every week, at least for a period of time. Second is the monthly calendar, which has all events that occur only once or have a less regular schedule. The third part is anything that comes on paper gets hung up, too.
  22. I don't especially like Stouffer's mac and cheese. Mine is just a roux based white sauce with lots of cheddar melted and then bake the whole thing after mixing in the noodles, I usually use the recipe on the Mueller's elbows. The only frozen mac I like anymore is Marie Callender's Vermont white cheddar.
  23. We have typically done Santa gifts while away if we were gone on Christmas Day. We generally don't travel with our immediate family gifts, but would if it would make our child feel left out while the other children are opening their gifts.
  24. I don't like chunks in my spaghetti and I have always used Ragu Traditional Old World Style. There is also a chunky version, but it says chunky on it.
  25. My 8 year old saw it this year, but we have read many of the Oz books and he watches Doctor Who, which has scary monsters/aliens.
