  1. Thanks everyone! DawnL- That's what I was thinking also. I read something in the law that you only have to withdraw your child if they are 6 or 7 years old. That was my interpretation anyway. However; My DS was supposed to go to the school(this year) for a 1-day/week enrichment class. The school called me recently to see if she would still attending. I sent them an email stating that she would not be attending at all because of the move. I will turn in the Intent form here and then at the other district(within 2 wks ofthe move), as another poster suggested. :) the "transfer student" written in the law, I was interpreting as: transfering from the original public school to homeschool. I guess the law is somewhat open to interpretation, but the Intent to homeschool is pretty major and I don't want to mess that one up. :) -T
  2. I checked WHO, HSLDA, and many other websites, but can't seem to find anything for my situation. This is our first year homeschooling in Eastern WA, but we just found out that we will be moving to Western WA right after schools starts. My dd will be 9 on sept. 13th. My question is: Do I need to file the Declaration of Intent in our current district AND in our future district? How soon after moving to Western WA, do I need to file it? Do I need to officially withdraw her here (since we are moving out of the district)? Thankyou -T
  3. Well I guess that's going to have to work for us...I mean homeschooling and then adding in lots and lots and lots of extras to stimulate her mind. Thx anyway:)
  4. Question: We are moving to western Washington near Longview/ Kelso area. My daughter was supposed to be starting in a gifted program once a week in our district here. Is there any G&T programs in or near Lngvw/Kls? Any other homeschool resourses would be helpful!:) thx -Terra
  5. 6. We refill our printer cartridges instead of going new. Hasn't been a problem yet. How much cheaper is this than buying new? We spend about 60-80 every time we buy a new set.
  6. sorry about that:blushing: I meant to post that on another recent "annoying neighbor" post, but I got a little click crazy and didn't realize how old this was. hehe oopsy. glad it made someone giggle :001_smile:
  7. I remember living in a 4-plex. My upstairs neighbor (who would later become my bff) would leave her annoying alarm going off forever. I eventually learned to sleep through it, but I'm a heavy sleeper anyway. One day, this gal from the 4-plex next to me (different building) comes banging on my door. I leap out of bed and answer the door. She's waving her arms, screaming and yelling about how she has 3 kids and it's way too early on a Saturday to be woken up by a screaming alarm that never shuts off! I rub the sleep from my eyes and whisper, "Indeed". Then I pointed upstairs. mental note: When tempers are flared about a noisy neighbor and you want to confront them....make sure you have the right house!
  8. I would like to know more about this device. what's it called? Is it harmful to the pet? Soes it actually train them not to bark or do they just not bark when they are wearing it? My mom and some neighbors have barking dogs (I'm sure the other neighbors are annoyed because I sure am when I go over there). :bigear:
  9. :iagree: I would prefer my neighbor coming to me first (in a gentle manner). Otherwise it seems like unecessary tattling.
  10. The silent reflux looks very similar to ds situation. He does LOVES spicy foods, but apparently patients don't always feel the burn in the throat. He also does this odd thing where he will take a bite of food, chew it, spit it in the garbage. Sometimes he'll go back for another bite and continue the ritual. I'll be taking him into the Doc this month, so I'll mention silent reflux. Oh and food allergies...he has an intolerance to dairy.
  11. :001_smile: Yes! yes! That will be great! Are you homeschooling all of your kiddos? I'll be doing 3rd and prek. Are you nervous?!
  12. oh okay! Thanks guys... I appreciate the clarification. I wasn't sure what the fte thing meant or if the 0.2 part had any impact on DD riding the bus and getting meals. It seems as though it does not. I wonder about the supervision for an hour before she catches the bus home. Is that a "right" of my daughter's? I'm under the impression from the district that it is NOT a right and the morning bussing would be a favor as well.
  13. Okay, my son is 3 years old (4 next month). As a baby he was colicky...BAD colic. Painful-sounding crying several hours a day. Lasted until he was 6 months. For comfort, he use to try to put his hand/fist/fingers in his mouth. He got his first tooth at 9 weeks, yes 9 weeks, so I would take him to the dr/dentist because I thought there was something wrong with his teeth sometimes. He was also extremely sensitive to noises. I was a single mom until he was 2 years, so he was a "momma's boy". He would wake up in the middle of the night crying for no apparent reason. I would comfort him and try to get him to use his words. He was overall a happy boy, but hyper-sensitive. He use to get offended very easily and still does to this day(not as bad though). By his 2nd birthday, he had learned to use his words to get things he wanted/needed. At 2 1/2 he finally slept through the night without waking or crying. He still is very sensitive, but its not constant anymore. Now, he chews/sucks on his shirt when he is upset mostly, but sometimes when he is watching tv, or at the store. Boredom? Anxiety? We go through 3-4 shirts a day! I have had his teeth checked, so I don't think that's it. Also, he eats frequently...several times a day(7-10 times) I suppose this could be because of my diet(many small meals a day). However; even when he's full, he wants to eat/drink more. When we go places or leave someplace to come home, he always wants to get something to eat before we leave. I am curious if anyone has had problems remotely close to this. Suggestions? Advice? Hunches?
  14. We reside in Washington State. My daughter tested high on OLSAT and we'll be putting her in our district's enrichment program one day a week from 9-2. The principal said that DD will be considered ".2 FTE" (FTE=full time enrollment). She said that DD may be able to take bus in the morning (with the other full time kiddos), but not in the afternoon. I suppose it's because the full time kids get out an hour later. Also, DD has recieved free/reduced lunches in the past as a full time PS student based on our family income. Principal said that this shouldn't be a problem next year. Another thing that she said was that she is doing us a favor in finding a "space" for DD in the gifted program. I'm wondering what you all think of all of this. What difference does .2 FTE make, if any? Is she doing my DD a favor by "allowing" her in the program? Since she will be homeschooled next year, does she still qualify for any transportation services and school lunches while in the enrichment program? Still feeling my way around the Wash. homeschool law, so I hope none of this sounds rehashed. :bigear:
  15. Crimson- yes she tested about 2b and 3a servin- I agree! I know that Singapore has a different approach than what she is use to; this is why I also decided to start 2a instead of 2b or 3a(where she tested). So that she can practice getting to know the format and the techniques of Singapore. I DO like your math routine. I think I will do that and instead of CW, I'll try the mental math and see how that goes. thanks guys! :)
  16. Okay, well here goes. We will begin our FIRST adventure of homeschooling in the fall and I was hoping someone had some tips about using singapore...or at least words of encouragement. I have Primary math 2a/2b. My DD is grade level with math, but a quick learner and a lot of 2a will be review for her. I got it anyway because of the PS using spiral curriculum last year (kinda through her off her game). I want her to "master" her math abilities, but I don't want to bore her with busy work. My question is: should I use the IP with 2a and/or 2b? Should we do all of the activities? Does she need to do ALL of the mental math or is that just a suggestion?
