  1. I don't know if this would work but to parlay in the ideas above; perhaps he could get a degree using CLEP credits etc. and a degree competeion bachelors ,then apply as a graduate student. Maybe this would work persuing a second bachelor degree? I'm not sure if that works for engineering though. One option I've looked into is to take a dual credit class at a small private college. The one I'm thinking of is LeTourneau. and If a DC student passes with a C he she will be eligible for dual credit scholarship which makes it tuition much more reasonable at $12,000 a year. I don't know a lot about the school , i am just wondering aloud if there are other small private engineering achools with a similar poicy. Still wouldn't make a student independent for finacial aid purposes , though.
  2. It is fine. We only did AP to help our DS1 see if he had an interest in econ and calc...didn't even take the test on one of those. The goal wasn't admissions. There are many ways including part time jobs, job shadowing, ect..to help students figure out what they want to do in life. I think there are many more courses out there to gadge interest than AP as well.
  3. I sold mine on Amazon as we already were selling a few books on there and had an account set up. It was easy, but I must have priced too low as the person buying from me was reselling. I would ship with insurance and signature as a few expensive books we have sent have been tracked to the buyers' home but claimed not received.
  4. My DD is doing well. She still enjoys the class, but has missed two assignments due to misreading the dates this semester. I think she has her phone set to tone if she gets an email. It has been valuable in learning how to study for tests. College DD came home and encouraged her and shared techniques. College DD has shared that college DD has to spend 2 to 3 times as long studying for her test as a non-dyslexic student. This information made my DD decide to study for a few more days before taking the final.
  5. https://www.amazon.com/SmartyPants-Womens-Complete-Gummy-Vitamins/dp/B01B1JPXBE/ref=sr_1_3_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1513631178&sr=8-3&keywords=smarty%2Bpants%2Bvitamins%2Bwomen&th=1 My family takes Smarty Pants for women. My DD and husband really notice a difference. I sometimes do, but the other kids do not. Not sure if it is the best quality, but since my DD doens't swallow pills well, gummies are an option.
  6. Sorry, I missed a similar post upthread. Next year when I asked, I plan to be ready to hand out info on gift certs for Merry Maids or a local place. Also I have a second birthday just for me. I take myself out to lunch or could go with friends because I take the day off of school to celebrate my second birthday . I like to journal and be a bit introspective about how I am using the time that I have here. It helps having this second day. I can enjoy the first birthday with family dinner and acitivities much more...even if it all seems more family oriented than celebrating my birthday. Sharing in case it is helpful for anyone else:)
  7. My son uses 3rd? Possibly 4th ipod. Certainly not the most current. Also ipad mini might be nice for the wordtext recordings (easier to read along).
  8. My "baby" is now 12. I was 40 and no complications, but perfect planned/ scheduled -section number 4. He has always been the most easy- going -big -hearted kid. Congrats!
  9. Hmmm. How do we figure out which lexile? Any free online tests ?
  10. I am using one that doesn't have any peroxide and you can find it a Whole Foods or Amazon:: Perio-Brite. https://www.amazon.com/Natures-Answer-PerioBrite-Natural-Toothpaste/dp/B002LMBFEK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?ie=UTF8&qid=1510188017&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=periobrite%2Btoothpaste&th=1 One of the U tubers I follow recommended it. It doesn' t make my teeth sensitive and I can tell the difference. I haven't felt the need to use whitening stips in a long time.
  11. I love Math U See Epsilon for fraction study. Even my kids who didn't do much Math U See liked this. ( We typically do Math U See for early elementary learning math facts.) My kinesthetic learners do much better on a huge whiteboard doing one problem at a time as well. I noticed that there is a gap of time between when you go over a lesson and he does it. Is there any way he could do the lesson right after you teach it? That might be all he needs.
  12. Re: exams. Yes, the last exam took her 2 hours. She isn't used to exams, so maybe that played into it. Filling in a chart took almost an hour, not sure why. She has been focused on her grade ( which I find kind of funny, but tha has happened with all of my kids when they finally get in a graded situation) and has increased it by a few points from test one to test two.
  13. I am glad it is working well. My dyslexic daughter had one week where the workload jumped quite a bit ...week 4? It evened back out after that. I did begin the year watching videos and making sure she knew how assignments and dates were posted, ect. I don't think there has been any textbook reading required. She loves the course and we have both been impressed by the instructor and turnaround on assignments. She wants to take a few more of their classes. It has been a great experience for her.
  14. We also enjoyed the recorded Mrs. Stanley's classes ( not sure how to write her title as know she has a JD). My DD1 liked some of the recorded econ classes, my current high schooler is taking a live computer applications class. We have been impressed by the customer service and teaching. We will be investigating other live courses for the fall.
  15. Lol. I am testing my current high schooler to see if she can get accomodations when she gets to college. So soon I can join the testing club. I am with you on the VT , I disliked doing it, but it worked! I think Kbutton and Heathermomster mentioned it upthread, but I thought a link might be helpful.
  16. I really drag my feet on testing if I am able to accomodate through homeschooling, so keep my bias in mind as write. I would order the Faith and Life 2 book or whatever they are using so that you could preread it to/with her and she would be familiar/confident with the material. I know that doesn't solve the reading difficulty of there is one, but I think she would enjoy class, learn the material well and be confident. I know I have purchased those books before. Catholic publishing companies sell these to homeschoolers all of the time. The one type of testing that has been mentioned upthread I would do is for visual issues not related to acuity. If you take her to a qualified doc for her annual acuity exam, he/she can do a quick screen to see if there are any issues that would indicate a longer and much more extensive evaluation would be needed. Basic eye exams are often covered by insurance.http://www.covd.org/?page=vision_therapy I would also agree with above posters to have her do the free student Barton Reading and Spelling screening to see if she would benefit from it .https://bartonreading.com/. . If she doesn't pass the screening test, that will also give you further information about what is going on. My DS2 used to confuse his short vowel sounds, and having to say the Bartons key word for the sounds was helpful. I don't think my younger kids would be reading without Bartons...but ymmv. Hope this helps!
  17. We plan a treat of some kind when the accademic year for a subject is complete, usually a lunch out with Mom and Dad at their choice. That way we mark the hard work of all of us( serves as a teacher appreciation lunch as well). Next day, we keep going. It is a little weird now with so many classes online for my high schooler as they will all end at the same time...we may just do something in May for her unless she finishes her Algebra sequence earlier.
  18. Videotext for Algebra, MathUSee for Geometry , Derek Owens for Calc.
  19. I would love to hear too! They have such an amazing scholarship for their Dual credit students!
  20. If it works out to move, make sure you get a home equipped with a very loud fire alarm. Then you can pull the alarm in the middle of the night a few times a week to wake your Dd (so she can get that college experience).
  21. I haven't used the common app, but when my kids applied we did use some of their church actiivites. Maybe look at their activities and break them down into community volunteerism, leadership, planning of events, and whatever the role or tasks they completed ect...instead of just a general category.
  22. Hi Op, Just wanted to add that in my state if you take any class with residency status (at any state school including community college), you retain that status. In order to maintain that option for your son, he could register for a concurrent online 1 credit class and as long as he continues to take classes , he would retain residency in my state. (My DD1 took a PE online walking class- so it doesnt have to be super accademic).I am not sure if that is the same where you live, but it might be something to look into.
  23. Is he sure he wants to attend local U? And if so right now? My DS1 was a pretty traditional kid and has mentioned that he thought he would feel out of place even just a year or two younger if we did this with him. My daughter did graduduate early, and transferred into state school at 18. She isn't eligible for any freshman groups. She isnt able to attend any freshman group events/dinners such as leadership groups or even freshman church retreats because all freshman events swipe ids, and her id says she is a transfer sophmore so ....nothing freshman. She is only 18, so it has been a bit limiting.
