  1. Ok, it is less sore this morning. i'm going to TRY not to lift the 2 year old as much (good luck with that) and take it a bit easy and see if that lets it keep healing. It is much less sore to touch/rub on as well. I've had the WEIRDEST pregnancy stuff this time around! (see my post about food allergy/red face to know what i mean!)
  2. I know that many of us already know this, but it is NOT acceptable to SAY it in many circles. It is considered anti feminist, or putting limits on women, etc etc. She isn't the first to figure it out. She is the first in a certain demographic to be willing to talk about it publicly.
  3. I've read the whole article, and heard her in 3 different in depth interviews. At no point did I think she wanted us to feel sorry for her, or was looking for sympathy. She says she is VERY happy doing what she is doing, and knows she is lucky. Her whole point was that SHE is lucky, but working a different job, outside of academia opened her eyes to how hard things are for people outside of academia. Some of her solutions had nothing to do with telecommuting, they had to do with syncing work hours and school hours, offereng more part time or flexible work, etc. Am I the ONLY one that gets her point? She always, since she was in college, has wanted that job in the state department. It is like a kid wanting to grow up to be president or something. She dreamed of it for DECADES, only to realize it wasn't really feasible for a woman with a family. And just wants to open up that discussion, because she grew up being told yes, you can have any job you want if you work hard, plan well, etc. Well, she did all the right things, and yet it still doesn't work. And she isn't whining about it, she's just talking about it, because in many circles that is NOT an ok thing to say, and it is NOT talked about.
  4. The author acknowledges that in the article, and says she knows she is insanely lucky, and is speaking only for a certain demographic.
  5. Yes, but it has been my experience that you first have to have proved yourself as a doctor and been successful before cutting back to part time, or one day a week, or whatever. It would be hard (impossible?)to come out of med school and expect to be hired somewhere just one day a week. Which means delaying family until after college, med school, and years of establishing yourself, at which point you may not biologically be able to have children anymore, and at best are increasing the risk of having genetic issues with your children. Men just don't have that issue.
  6. It was almost a week. And normally I'm a twice a day at least person, so that was a LONG time for me. It is the surgery and the pain meds. PLEASE take coalace. LOTS of it. And get a suppository if you need to...I had to send my dh to the store to buy me fleet glycerine suppositories at the end, I was in SUCH agony. It was awful and painful but I felt SO much better after that was overwith. Seriously, and I know this is TMI, but I thought I was going to overflow the toilet, I was so backed up.
  7. She addresses this in the article. Some careers just are not feasible, or very difficult, if you start late. She mentions academia and large law firms as places where she had never seen someone successfully break in if they are starting at 40 or so. On the other hand, if you do the career first you might not be able to have children do to simple biology.
  8. Thanks. I have had an ultrasound, and the placenta is no where near the scar, so that is good, and why I'm not terribly worried. I think I just either tore some adhesions/scar tissue, or strained the round ligament on that side.
  9. I didn't talk to her as I thought it would be gone by now, and hate to bug her on the weekend when there really isn't much to do about it over the weekend anyway. If it is still as sore tomorrow I guess I'll call. What i seem to be noticing is that in the morning it isn't very sore at all, and by the end of the day, after lifting my 2 year old a million and twelve times, bending over to pick everything off the floor, etc it is pretty sore. (we also had pretty energetic tea this morning...that could have aggravated it...oops!). Maybe I need to just take it easy more. It was feeling a bit better yesterday morning, then I was at a curriculum sale from 1:30-4:30, on my feet, and it was worse.
  10. Could be a bad back, seizures, or fainting from a heart problem. The exercise intolerance may suggest heart issue as well. There are good, cheap medications for heart problems, if that is the case. He needs a vet visit. If it is his back some steroids and rest may make all the difference. And of course there are seizure meds as well. Please take him in tomorrow to find out what is going on.
  11. Those are exactly the kinds of things I ask my son to do. For instance, just a bit ago, I was putting the baby in the bath and asked him to pick up the living room floor and turn the Roomba on. Earlier I had asked him to clean Roomba (brushes and such). He takes out the trash when asked, watches his sister, clears the table, etc. I don't have him put away dishes often, just because I know where they go better than anyone else and I'm anal about it :) but helping with everything else, sure. Mopping with the swiffer or steam mop, picking up the bathroom, cleaning the toilet, etc. etc.
  12. This is my third pregnancy. My first ended in a c-section, and I do have a lot of scar tissue under the skin that you can feel. I had a VBAC 10 years later (2 years ago). I had a few twinges in the scar area last pregnancy, but not much.I do get round ligament pains from time to time. Well, the other day I decided to do some pelvic rocking...I got on my hands and knees on the bed and basically went from cat pose to cow pose (I think that is what they are called), arching and flexing my back. I really felt it in the scar tissue from my c-section...just a pulling sensation. Well....I think I really pulled something. I've had pain for 2 1/2 days now. If I massage that area, just to the left of my skin incision, it is tender to the touch. I feel like i pulled a muscle or tore some adhesions. So...anything to worry about? Anything I can do anything about? Baby is moving fine, I'm having my normal braxton hicks contractions, etc etc...no problems other than that pain. It aches if I'm just sitting and not moving. If I am bending over/standing up quickly, etc, I feel it for sure. And to add to the drama, we don't have insurance for another month. My midwife is just going to wait until the new job's insurance kicks in and then will bill everything at the end as a global fee. But any extra labs/ultrasounds/ doctor's visits would be out of pocket until then. Or we have the option of electing COBRA, whcih would be about 4,000 total for the months we are talking about.....so I'm assuming stuff would be cheaper out of pocket.
  13. Lysol doesn't kill stomach flu. use diluted bleach....1 tablespoon per quart I think...
  14. more than 3 per hour is when you start to wonder if it is an issue. 3 or less and not a problem. Braxton hicks contractions start right away, as soon as you get pregnant. It is just that most people don't notice them until further along.
  15. I had then from 12 weeks with my second, and 9 weeks with my third.
  16. had she had your milk in a bottle before? Was it frozen or just refrigerated? I tended to just refrigerate normally, but either way, only thing I can think of is high lipase levels causing it to taste weird....there are ways to help that, including scalding the milk shortly after pumping. But if that was the issue you would have known before now, if you have tried bottles in the past.
  17. I think you are unusual if the hair growth stops there. Most women have it continue past that natural demarcation onto the thighs a bit. I'm fair, have very little body hair, and even I have to shave. My bathing suit sits like yours, but the hair continues past there if I don't shave it. I use a small electric razor, it isn't baby butt smooth, but you can't see the hair anymore and that is all I care about. They make women's bikini trimmers for this purpose. Oh, and I have a new suit with short/skirt type bottom and LOVE that I don't have to double check if I need a quick shave, lol. SO freeing!
  18. I think the only possible answer is better education, and a good relationship between vet and client. Oh, and that espresso machine is easily the cheapest thing in the office, trust me. He probably got it for free from some company or other.
  19. thanks all. The list doesn't show what family acai berry is in, but it wouldn't suprise me if it was similar. also got a pm that linked a histimine like substance to both strawberries and crab, which I know I react to sometimes.
  20. If you are allergic to one berry are you more likely to be allergic to another? I posted earlier that I'm 29 weeks pregnant and this evening and last evening I have had a hot, itchy, flushed feeling in my face, and my face is very noticably read, especially the cheeks. I have eczema on my face and it is like a REALLY bad flare up of that, all at once, lasting hours. I thought about it, and i had a bowl of frozen berries yesterday before it happened, and today I had a nutrition bar with berries before it happened. Once, many years ago, I had similar symptoms after having a smoothie with acai berry in it. (only time I ever had acai berry). I assumed I was allergic and stopped consuming it. Could I be cross reacting? I took 1 benedryl last night and was fine when I woke up. Tonight it was bothering me more and I started getting itchy on my chest so I took 2 benedryl tablets. I'm not fighting to keep my eyes open, lol, I'm so drugged/sleepy. It does look much better though. Could I have developed an allergy to another berry? The frozen ones were strawberry/blueberry/raspberry. Not sure about the nutrition bar. OH, and I have a cousin that is allergic to strawberries. I'm slightly allergic to shellfish, but only crab.
  21. thanks all. I'm thinking allergic reaction. I had berries before hand both times...maybe I'm getting an allergy to that.
  22. I thought so, but wasn't sure. I know regular prednisone is cheap, but prednisolone is different.
  23. Hmm...i just remembered that I did have something different...I made some pregnancy tea that my midwife sells. I've had it before, but not in about a month or so, and I had it yesterday evening and this afternoon. maybe?
  24. fifths' is "slapped cheek disease" that is really all I know. That and it can lead to miscarriage. hmm..maybe rosacea? but it doesn't really look like that. I put cortisone cream on it, which seems to have irritated it more...that happens with my eczema.
