  1. In our area I know that many of my friends who have similar values attend the Unitarian Universalist church in Orlando. They like it there. But it will be less formal looking than that church you linked looked. Episcopal is another thought, although some in our diocese are more conservative leaning the one I attend definitely is not. In fact, all the conservative members left, including the pastor, and the ones remaining (and the new priest...a woman) are relaxed and open minded. Would be a drive for you though I think. Anyway, I'd check Episcopal but each one will be different, ECLA Lutheran, or Unitarian Universalist, but know that that last one won't be specifically Christian.
  2. That link says that even the ones with big batteries (which ID cards don't have), would only have a range of about 30 meters. The id cards in question are just like the badges lots of people use every day to access their workplace. My husband uses one to get in and of the office, turn off the alarm, etc at his business. Trust me, his degree is in information security, if they could be tracking his badge away from the office he'd have it in a faraday cage ASAP. (His wallet IS an RFID blocking one, but he doesn't keep his badge for work in there).
  3. I think if you have the money, and it isn't a hardship, it makes sense to test for things that are easily treatable. If you don't have the ability to treat for it then it would make less sense. I'm assuming you've already checked for diabetes/kidney failure/etc? Even if you can't fix the dog, for many people it helps to KNOW what is wrong so they KNOW they can't fix it, and that brings some closure and peace. So I have no issue with what you've done. We had a similar situation, but for us it WOULD have been a hardship, and the dog was in pain. I couldn't see prolonging his pain, so we didn't do testing.
  4. thanks all. He still sounds snotty a bit. I'm cleaning my vaporizer to get it working again (mineral build up from our hard water), and will run that tonight for him.
  5. try the soaks, but also try some bendryl for a few days. 1 mg per pound 2-3 times a day.
  6. Ah yes, doing the same in the chair in the living room. He's sleeping fine right now, in the same darned place he sleeps at night. No congestion to speak of. Wish I could sleep, but the 2 1/2 year old dropped her nap when he was born.
  7. any links on this? I've not found anything like this.
  8. everything I've found on tags that can be read via sattelite are combination tags, using GPS and RFID.
  9. http://www.wireless-technology-advisor.com/rfid-range.html generally they use near field communication for id badges you swipe, with a very short range.
  10. Not true. Many RFID tags don't even have a battery,a nd are only activated when scanned. They do not broadcast. And the the range is at most generally a matter of yards.
  11. RFID is NOT GPS. They can't track it long distance. They can't track the kid off school grounds. An RFID chip has to be in close proximity to the scanner to work. So I imagine they have scanners at the classroom doors. But No, it can't tell what you do outside of school. We use those badges at the national veterinary conference to track continuing ed hours. It gets scanned as you walk through the scanner (looks a bit like a metal detector), so they know you went in to the class.
  12. Considered that, but he sleeps ok in there during the day. hmm.
  13. should have mentioned the doctor did listen to him, and was unconcerned. He went in for his 2 week checkup right after this started. It really does just seem to be a tiny bit of mucus in his nose causing all the problems.
  14. My son was NOT congested his first week or so. Then, a week ago the 2 year old caught a cold, and the baby started sounded snotty a bit at night. Seemed better 48 hours later, but then came back again the next night. Now he is still congested, but really only at night. He is having such trouble sleeping at night because he sputters and chokes and sneezes. Which, of course, means I'm not sleeping. He is beside me now in his bouncy seat and still snotting and such. I can't get much out with the bulb syringe, and he HATES it. I did saline drops, and twice last night we hung out in a steamy bathroom, which helps more than anything. Any thoughts? He sounds miserable when it is happening and is really tired. So am I for that matter. oh..he just quieted, and now is sleeping in the bouncy seat, thank heaven! (just wish the 2 year old would go back to sleep, so I could sleep!)
  15. That's exactly what I'm thinking. I know that when I worked in veterinary medicine it could be a huge hassel to try to get a small quantity of any given drug or item. To the point that you often could only do it if you could get a sales rep to take pity on you and give you a sample. And she probably doesn't qualify for delayed billing and such like a big operation would, so she'd have to shell out the money up front then wait to be reimbursed. Ordered from the company the cost is $750 here in the USA, as the generic isn't available here yet. That gets pricy for a small business. Large offices could order, do delayed billing, and pay after the insurance reimbursed them .
  16. First, after speaking to the regular Ob's office I'd have to go in twice, once for a well woman exam and once for the insertion. At $25 per visit for my copay that's $50. I was able to find the IUD via a canadian pharmacy for $70, including shipping. I'm willing to pay the extra $20 to have the convenience of having my midwife do it at my 6 week post partum check up. Plus, I asked the office girl at the midwife's office again about insurance coverage and she explained it better. She said if I bring in a reciept they (the midwife's office) will reimburse me and then bill my insurance. Which is an odd way to do things, but at least makes sense and I understand it. And if it doesn't work out, oh well, I only spent $20 more. If it DOES work out I saved $50 in copays. (no copay for the midwife because that visit is included in my birth/prenatal/postnatal fee that I already paid). I was on the fence about doing the IUD but after the total lack of sleep I've had lately it seems like a better and better idea :) And if I have bad side effects I can always have it taken out.
  17. if it is the hymen, and it sounds like it is, she won't be able to use a tampon comfortably until it is gone. A doctor or midwife could easily take care of it for her I imagine. She'd obviously still be a virgin (some people worry about that), but would be able to use the tampons. I suggest this just because of her swim team practices and such.
  18. Two thoughts..could be the hymen? Otherwise, yes, if it is dry, it can get "stuck". My mom taught me to remove it while urinating if it felt stuck, as you relax the pelvic floor muscles while urinating, so that helps. Also, leaving it in longer (not excessively, but longer) can help.
  19. AMEN! I cannot believe how few people realize that that is the right thing to say. Years ago a dear friend stopped by my office, obviously nervous and agitated. I asked what was going on, and she stammered out that she was pregnant. I instantly said "Congratulations!" and hugged her in joy. She was shocked, and started crying. She said not a single person she had told had said congratulations. See, she was not married. (but had been in a long term relationship, was currently acting as step mother to her beau's first son, had a great job, college education, and was almost 30 years old.) I couldn't believe people would NOT congratulate her, and I told her she would be a fantastic mother, and she just cried tears of relief and joy. Poor girl just wanted someone to share her joy. Breaks my heart just thinking about it. (they are now married, I attended the wedding a few months after their son was born. And she IS an excellent mother and dotes on that child. She has been trying to concieve again for years, and has not been able to. Thank heavens she had that child and didn't listen to all the voices of doubt in her life.)
  20. paragard is what we will be doing. reversible and no hormones.
  21. Him swiping it multiple times wouldn't allow him to steal your card anyway...at most you would have multiple charges at that restaruant, but what would be his motive for that? I think you overreacted.
