  1. I am frustrated. I have tried many programs, but I can't seem to find one that fits me, as a teacher. I want to teach, not have my child watch a DVD(tried EIW). I want a program that teaches great sentences, as well as, paragraphs, moving into essays. We are doing WS3, but I feel it is moving too slowly - can I speed it up? Does it get better? I would really like to be able to use my history and lit to make up my own assignments, but with 5 kids in the grammar stage, I just don't have time. I have listened to SWB's lectures for grammar and logic and I love them, but feel that I need a little more hand-holding. Is there a program out there for me? Anyone?
  2. Thank you, Starrbuck12! Anyone else?
  3. I am doing some remedial spelling and reading with my DD11 this year and it is going well. I have Megawords 1 and 2 with teachers manuals and I am thinking about using them next year(7th Grade), but I have a couple of questions. 1) I am a little confused about the S&S. I see the chart on the inside cover, but do I complete one book a year, or do you just keep going into the next book, when you are finished the one before. Megawords 5 & 6 only have 4 lists. Are they huge lists? 2) I like the mastery aspect of the program, but I am not sure how to implement it. I read in the teacher's manual that you could be on one list with accuracy in reading, another list in reading speed and still another in spelling accuracy. How does this work? Thanks in advance,
  4. Has anyone used this? If so, did/do you like it?
  5. My 11YO DD is doing R&S 5, as we are needing to fill in some holes. My 9YO DS is using R&S 3(first time with grammar). I do all of the teacher text review and student text lessons orally, with a few whiteboard examples, and then, if there is a worksheet, they are expected to complete it all. If there is not a worksheet, they have a break. From what I understand about R&S, basically everything is gone over again in the subsequent years, so I am allowing leeway in the workload.
  6. TOG Year 1(Upper and Lower Grammar) - I love that I can pick and choose what I want to use, and where I want the focus to be each week. The resource lists are huge, so I don't have to go looking for something else. It is preparing me for D and R levels ahead of time, so I won't be lost when the time comes. Most of all, history gets done, the kids are loving it and learning so much. Edited to add: I must also mention that since SOTW is listed as an alternate resource, occasionally I will use it, if I prefer the way it lays out the material.
  7. :iagree:I just started Level One with my DS9(we started half-way through at Lesson 18). I do it as the above post says, although when I write the 'what do you remember' part of the narration, I make my DS copy that as well. We go through two weeks worth of work in one, and my DS has not complained yet. I also started my twin DSs7.5 at Level One, but I am starting at the beginning and doing the work as written - one week at a time.
  8. :iagree:I put them in page protectors and we use dry erase markers on them.
  9. Okay, Linda...I have a couple more questions. Do you think that I could use the SPI with my twin boys in Grade 3 and my son in Grade 4? How would I have to modify it? Or would I? I would maybe do them all at together, at a little slower pace(could take a year and a half or two), and keep my daughter on more of a schedule to finish by the end of this year. Would the workbook be okay for the boys too, or would it be too advanced? I would drop ETC, which has gotten me to this place to begin with and maybe we can progress somewhere this year.
  10. Now you are making me think I need to go and look at Saxon for my younger kids.:tongue_smilie:
  11. Elizabeth, I did try again and was able to get the lessons going. Thank you! I will probably get my daughter to listen to them as well, to try to cement things.
  12. Thank you, Linda! I read through the post on your blog(your kids are adorable) and it really helps to see the actual items that they use in the program. I think I need to go back to flashcards with my DD, so this is probably what I need. I will let you know how it goes!
  13. Linda, how long do you work with each child using the Phonics Intervention? Will I get through it in one year, or will it take more? I haven't been able to find any where online that I can take a look inside the books. Will it help my DD's spelling? I honestly am at a loss as to what to do. I tend to like scripted things, so it sounds like it might work. I need something sequential and thorough that doesn't take too long. She already has a long school day. I am really trying to get her to work more independently, but that is like pulling teeth. I am starting to feel like I have a behavior issue too.
  14. Thank you, Elizabeth. Is there any way to download the lessons to my Ipod? I do not have wireless connection where I live. Thanks!
  15. :iagree: There must be some kind of a 10 step program out there for homeschooling mothers of 11 year old daughters!;)
  16. Elizabeth, I have looked at your phonics lessons in the past, but I couldn't figure out how to download them to my ipod and my internet connection doesn't support video very well. I will try again and see if I can figure it out.
  17. Thanks for your responses! I will be back later to comment.
  18. Does anyone have experience with this program? My DD is in 6th, but I am really feeling the need to go back a bit. Her reading and spelling are behind, and I am feeling the press of the middle grades coming. How teacher intensive is the program and is it worth the money? Any input would be appreciated.
  19. My sixth grader is using Christian Light Education (CLE) Science 6 this year and we are moving into Apologia General Science for seventh grade. So far we are really loving the format of CLE and the Science 6 is a great overview/review of elementary science, before the middle grades.
  20. Is Teaching the Classics more for my education, and CW an incremental curriculum in writing for my children? I am planning for next year, when my DD will be in Grade 7. If I was to do CW, would I start at Aesops and Homer for Older Beginners?
  21. Has anyone used this series by EPS? It looks like a good incremental program to go with outlining in the middle years. If you have used it, do you do one book a year, or one a semester?
  22. I found The Letter People at a curriculum fair, for FREE. I am considering it for my DS who is in K, as review. It even has the little pen that lights up, and it still works! Thank you for the extra links.
