  1. Email would work wouldn't it? Cripes, most of the communication now days is electronic no matter where you are or what it's for. Why should P/T conferences be relegated to the dark ages of face to face communication?
  2. I like to promote the Aunt Dimity series whenever I can. Begin with Aunt Dimity's Death. Fun, funny, cozy mystery with recipes!
  3. Your Type is ISFJIntrovertedSensingFeelingJudging Strength of the preferences % 89 25 69 33 You are: very expressed introvert moderately expressed sensing personality distinctively expressed feeling personality moderately expressed judging personality
  4. Why do you think I posted it? Right now, we are reading The Giver and the boys think this whole "sameness" idea is utterly stooopid! But I cautioned them about the reality of it... starting by taking away all the things (books, religion, foods even) that cause us to stop and make choices every day.
  5. I know. So which books/printed materials would you feel the need to have at any cost.
  6. I guess it's just called "Capper's" now... see link to subscription page on internet.
  7. Please come back and list others as you think of them (if you find yourself pondering this question in your day! LOL)
  8. Goodness... I'm reveling in the fact that she uses email! I love it. Hmmm... what about phone cards so she could make free calls to family members. A subscription to a magazine the AL place doesn't take...maybe something like Capper's Weekly or Reminisce. How about a book of poetry by Edna St. Vincent Millay? Very thoughtful of her for forwarding the letters to you and very thoughtful of you to bless her with something she will enjoy.
  9. Just out of sheer curiosity (thinking about Fahrenheit 451) should there ever be (and there had NEVER be!!) a time in our country when citizens have no say in what they read, and books and information is censored... what titles would you want to have in your home stashed away, hidden from the powers that be? Crazy thought, huh? I'm just curious as to what a list of the most important books to own looks like. I'm a library and information sciences student and it fascinates me that one, people try to tell others what can be available for readers and two, that there are societies (either real or fictitious) that actually enforce this. I love books. I love having books. I love having access to books. I love having access to books to borrow for free! It scares the begeebers out of me to think that that privilege (right??) could be taken from me. So... share with me! Oh, and if you feel so inclined, please tell me why you chose a certain book.
  10. Some groups tend to do that and it's hurtful and hateful. Our family ended up leaving a group because of the way the "governing committee" of the group reacted to a mom who is "universal unitarian." It just made my stomach cringe in disgust that these "godly women" could be so nasty to this young mom and her daughters. I wouldn't have believed had I not seen and heard first hand how it all went down.
  11. I don't like the smell either so I really wonder why I posted to even ask. :001_rolleyes: Hmmm... torches are an idea...
  12. Maybe instead of corsages we could all have a bug repellent clip on! :smilielol5: No, I haven't tried those. I've wondered about them though. I need to ask the proprietress (wedding will be held in the yard of a B & B) if she sprays prior to events. Maybe I'll do the luminaries anyway... just for looks. Would you use white bags or bags in the wedding colors?
  13. Gee, I never have any trouble with my 8-track player. ;) JK--- :grouphug: I think it's a bunch of baloney when the consumer has to prowl around the 'net to figure out what is wrong with an item. Tech service and customer service are seriously lacking these days.
  14. Daughter's wedding is at end of July in the evening---outdoors. I'm concerned about flying pests--mosquitoes mainly. Would citronella candles in white paper bag luminaries 1) be effective 2) be tacky 3) be a brilliant idea 4) stink?
  15. Y'all are great! These are good ones! Love the founding fathers/inlaws/parents combination!
